When you make a reservation at Adventure Awaits, you receive five complementary resort passes that provide guests free access for all lift fees (ski and bike), golf greens and golf cart, free admission to Lake Laura, free snow tubing and ice skating, and scenic chairlift rides. Not only is this a significant cost savings, but it spares guests the hassle of having to reserve passes in advance and pick them up from the resort on the day of arrival.
Guests will have access to the entire house and property.
The chalet has keyless, contact-free entry. There is no need to stop and pick up a key. When you arrive in the area, you can go straight to the chalet and unwind!
I will be available at all times while guests are in the chalet, although I try to keep regular business hours as much as possible for the sake of my family. If something needs attention, I will do my best to get it fixed as quickly as possible!
Bryce Resort and the town of Basye sit in the picturesque Shenandoah Valley, with quaint towns galore, including nearby Mount Jackson, New Market, Edinburg, Woodstock, Strasburg, and Harrisonburg. Each of these is worth a visit in its own right, steeped in history and Americana charm.
The four-season resort offers tons of things to do year-round, including skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing in winter, mountain biking in the summer and the fall, an 18-hole PGA Championship golf course, water sports on Lake Laura, and a great frisbee golf course. All of these activities are at your fingertips at Adventure Awaits.
Nearby restaurants include:
- The Copper Kettle at Bryce Resort (2 minutes or walk)
- Freed's Biscuits in Basye (3 minutes)
- R House Wine and Cafe in Basye (3 minutes)
- Bean's BBQ in Edinburg (25 minutes)
- The Edinburg Mill Restaurant in Edinburg (25 minutes)
- Southern Kitchen in New Market (25 minutes)
- The Woodstock Cafe in Woodstock (30 minutes)
- Woodstock Brew House in Woodstock (30 minutes)
The Shenandoah Valley also has its fair share of wineries. Some nearby wineries include:
1. Cave Ridge Vineyard (15 minutes)
2. Wolf Gap Vineyard and Winery (20 minutes)
3. The Winery at Kindred Pointe (20 minutes)
4. M&R Vineyard (20 minutes)
5. Third Hill Winery (20 minutes)
You can do a plethora of things outdoors. Great hiking is everywhere. The Orkney Springs trailhead is right there in Basye and is a very respectable stretch of the legs. Also try the Wolf Gap recreation area across the state line in West Virginia for the popular Big Schloss trail, the George Washington National Forest in and around Fort Valley (for my money, the quiet Kennedy Peak trail is the best one around with a great payoff at the end), and, of course, the Shenandoah National Park with its numerous trailheads along the stunning Skyline Drive. I recommend Old Rag, although the very busy Hawksbill and Stony Man hikes are also worth doing.
If you are into spelunking, you are in luck. The Shenandoah Valley is home to some great cavern complexes, including the Skyline Caverns (your kids will love the mirror maze), Shenandoah Caverns, and the unforgettable Luray Caverns.
Head over to the Shenandoah River Outfitters in Luray if you some river fun is in your plans.
The chalet is on a regular, monthly pest control schedule, but sometimes unwanted bugs may venture inside. Basye is home to stink bugs, Asian beetles, and wood roaches, which view open windows and doors as an invitation, especially at the changing of the season. I recommend keeping windows and doors closed when not in use.
The great thing about being on the slopes at the top of the mountain is that you don't really need to use your vehicle to go anywhere. However, if you choose to see some sights in the Shenandoah Valley or decide to eat out one night, you will need to have reliable transportation. Note that the chalet is at the top of a fairly steep road and driveway which may become icy in winter, so a four-wheel drive vehicle is recommended during the winter months.
Adventure Awaits is on a paved road that is regularly plowed during winter when there is snow on the ground. That said, the hills in Basye can be extremely steep and at certain times of the year, you may find that you need a good 4WD or AWD vehicle to make it up and down the roads. Moreover, the driveway is narrow due to the chalet's position near the top of the mountain. I highly recommend using a 4x4 if you are visiting in Winter.
Since the chalet sits at the top of a mountain, there are several flights of stairs both inside and outside the house. Those with mobility issues should take this into consideration.
Most of the amenities at Bryce Resort are available to guests at the resort using the complementary passes. It is worth noting, however, that these do not include the resort pool, which is open seasonally, but is only available to resort members.
Check in is at 4:00 pm and check out is at 10:00. These times are fixed. The cleaners keep a very tight schedule and make their plans around this six hour window. Out of respect to them, I cannot make exceptions to these times.
Please also note that as a small business, I am not able to grant last-minute refunds, so I highly recommend protecting your investment with travel insurance.
So why book this property?

Our family absolutely loved our stay at ‘Adventure Awaits.’
Dolly was so accommodating and kind to us which made our trip even more enjoyable. We loved the virtual guidebook that was provided, and we especially appreciated the local recommendations on things to do and places to eat. Two of the highlights of our trip were golfing at the resort and visiting Lake Laura - two perks that would make us come back!
We highly recommend this beautiful property to anyone looking to visit the area, and hope to be back soon!

We enjoyed our stay, loved the layout of the house, the views, and the wildlife we saw. Dolly was very helpful with the information she provided and suggested places to visit during out stay, including Lake Laura, the Shenandoah Caverns, and places to eat out. Great place to spend quality time with the family.
4.8
Everything about the stay was excellent! Dolly was an exceptional host and the place and location are amazing. Just as advertised. The home worked out great for our group of 12. As a Veteran, I love that the place is Veteran owned and supporting fellow Veterans is an added bonus. Thank you Dolly for allowing us to stay! Your attention to detail and the work you have put into the place is very much appreciated.
4.8
Only real location at Bryse where I can find that is true ski in ski out. Saves a lot of time and hassle with taking gear to lift. You can simply jump right into the slope! Dolly is also a great communicator and answered anything I needed right away. Already booked for next year!

We had a great time at Adventure Awaits. It is a great location on the green Redeye slope and now that we have experienced a ski-in ski-out location, we cannot imagine staying anywhere else. While skiing by we were able to stop at the house for drinks (we put a cooler in the woods by the house) and met for a lunch break.
Dolly was super responsive before, during and after our stay. The five house passes we great and allowed us to book over $800 in snow tubing and ice skating over our three day visit by calling Nan at the resort.
Snow tubing and skiing were excellent.
The house, kitchen amenities, rooms, game room, hot tub were all clean and great and as described. The pillows were really nice too.
The Adventure Awaits house guide provided by Dolly included all the info we needed on the house to maximize our stay.
Thanks Dolly!!

Great location and lovely home! Easy to get in and out and access right to the slopes with all-access passes was a huge plus! I was so grateful I could spend Christmas and New Year’s with my whole family with plenty of room to spread out and still be together. Thanks for making everything easy during our stay!

Overall very nice stay. My oldest son and wife particularly liked the layout of the house. There were a couple of minor issues that the cleaner forgot but it wasn’t enough to hinder our vacation in any way. The location is literally right on the slopes. Sooooo perfect. The lady that was handling the snow tubing at Bryce was full of wrong information and was not friendly but we didn’t let that ruin our fun either. The property owner/manager is very nice and quick to respond with questions.

Enjoyed the home, plenty of space, great location

Amazing views, large and comfortable indoor space, not too far of a drive from activities/stores

We had a great stay here! The house was clean, well-stocked, and spacious for a group of 5 adults and 5 kids. The hot tub was a hit and the kids adored the ‘arcade basement.’ The included passes to nearby Bryce Resort were perfect for golf (plus other resort activities!) which really sweetened the overall value of our stay. We highly recommend this VRBO!

First of all, Dolly is a very compassionate person. We had to leave a different house that was not as advertised/up to standard and she and her beautiful house saved my family's mini-vacation at Bryce. She even let us get into the house earlier than the normal check in time in light of our situation.
The house was perfect for a multi-generational family get-together. We had cousins downstairs, siblings and spouses on the main level, and grandparents staying in the suite upstairs. There was no shortage of things to do in the house or outside. All in all, the house was awesome and the resort passes were a huge plus. We all highly recommend this house and would love to return.

I loved staying here in ski season two years ago, so we decided to try it for a summer getaway and it did not disappoint! I loved seeing all the upgrades that Dolly and her husband have continued to make both inside and out since we were last here. They clearly are putting money back into the house and really care about the experience of people staying there. They have great local recommendations for most things - just ask! It was immaculately clean and the location was AWESOME. Couldn't ask for more. Thanks for giving us a great stay again, Dolly!

Positives:
Home was large/sufficient for our group.
Kitchen knives were sharp, thank you.
Excellent coffee machine.
Advice for future occupants to consider or be notified:
STAIRS; lots and lots of stairs. Issue for those of us in advanced age/health.
House layout wasn't what I would have liked - I'll take the fault for that.
Showers were (approximately) 24x24" cubes.

A great place to spend 3 days with friends and family (7 adults, 7 kids from 3yo to 16yo). No only the chalet has everything for cooking, having fun, etc. it also has fantastic location - bike trails and ski slopes (right there, when you step off the deck), 8min drive to lake Laura (a beautiful, quiet place with tons of water activities, entry is free with with guest passes provided by the hosts), cool trails around the lake. Kids loved the game room - air hockey, arcade, fooseball.
Brendan and Dolly are excellent hosts, very responsive - gave excellent advice on the area, where to eat, swim, hike.
Looking forward to coming to Basye!

Great for gathering with lots to do!

The Adventure Awaits chalet was the perfect place for us! The amentities were a big attraction and they served our group well. The floor plan was perfect for 11 high school girls offering lots of personal space while providing ample room to gather together. All the furniture & king beds were super comfortable. Wi-Fi, TVs and game room provided entertainment without a glitch. Our host, Dolly, was very responsive & helpful. She made us feel very welcomed and made our comfort a priority. We would definitely consider staying here again!
4.8
For some reason, maybe the mountains, our cell phone reception was poor. Consequently, our GPS did not work properly, so it was hard to find the exact address for the property. The owner should be aware of this and give detailed instructions on how to find the property. Also, upon our arrival we found several household items that needed repairs and/or maintenance upgrades (ie: window screens torn or missing, electrical outlets near sinks not GFI, porch wooden slats broken or loose, molding around shower discolored looks like mold, hot tub very cloudy/green looking). Other than those items, it was a very pleasant stay.
4.8
The property has plenty of space and activities to keep a group entertained. The host also did a great job of communicating throughout the process.
4.8
Dolly is very informative and thorough with the whole process. Everything was made very easy for our stay and dolly was always on hand to offer places to go or answer any questions we had. Great stay!!
4.8
We had a great time at this house even though the ski resort was closed. Next year we’ll book earlier in the season to ensure snow. The kids loved the basement games!
4.8
The house and location exceeded our expectations in every way. Dolly was responsive and helpful and her property was a perfect place to take the family to enjoy Bryce mountain. We will be back soon!
4.8
We had a great relaxed time during our stay. The house is huge for our family of 6 + 1kid and an infant.
Since it is off season most restaurants are on limited time/days. We didn't mide staying in the home and watch a few skiers pass by, we got to enjoy all the amenities of this well kept home. Would come back again maybe during peak season to enjoy the bryce resort that comes with the package even more.. Dolly was always very accommodating and made sure we enjoy our stay.
4.8
Perfectly slept our entire family and owners were very responsive.
4.8
We couldn't have been happier with our stay. The house was spectacular, the location even better, and the hosts a real delight. I would give this a 6 star rating if I could.
4.8
This rental was all we could have hoped for and more! It was so perfect for our 3 family ski vacation. Dolly was an amazing host and extremely responsive. I have zero complaints and we can't wait to go back next year. Thank you so much Dolly for you were an amazing host and the ski in/ski out was a game changer and the only way we can do ski trips now. ;)

I rented this house for 14 ladies to celebrate my 50th bday. The house was perfect for accommodating that many ladies. Having 4 bathrooms was great especially with the extra vanities outside of the two bathrooms. The beds were comfy but the mattress pad on the bed I slept in made the bed get very hot. I think it was a waterproof ones with no air or cooling feature. I would recommend a new mattress cover for the third floor bedroom.
Dolly was always available to answer any questions too.
One recommendation I would make is that the house needs to be fitted or re-fitted for the 15 people it can sleep. We felt there should be a few larger serving bowls and platters for serving group meals. There should be 15 of all basic kitchen items. We had to use pots for our large salads. And the blender as a flower vase.
I also recommend that you keep the mudroom door shut at all times. It helps keep the bottom level warmer.
Bring ice too. I think I missed reading that there wasn’t an icemaker so now you’ll know ahead.
Oh and having trash service was great. We had a lot of wine bottles to throw out :).
If you like games or puzzling make sure you bring those with you. The house has the perfect table for it in the family room.
We never used the hot tub or sauna or ski passes. Maybe next time!

Good sauna

We had a wonderful time at this ski in/ski out property. Great location. Liked that it is a detached house, and we enjoyed the hot tub and jacuzzi bath. Also has a sauna, but we didn’t try it. The kids loved the games in the first level. No issues with heating or hot tub as another guest mentioned. 5 passes were included, which was amazing. I was able to ski in/out a few runs by myself here and there with zero hassle just by the long a pass on my coat, which was so wonderful since we had children there. We got confused about the passes with tubing/ice skating. You have to make reservations, as the host did mention ahead of time, but you still have to make reservations for tubing and ice skating even with the free passes. The host is very responsive, so I would reach out ahead of time so your trip goes smoothly and you get to do the activities you want.

Adventure Awaits was the perfect ski vacation over Christmas break! Plenty of room for the family to spread out, huge kitchen, and awesome ski in ski out location. Dolly could not have been more helpful and attentive!

We had the best time good place for kids of all ages. Games and movies and it is right on the slopes i would definitely stay here again. Very nice host as well

We came for the snow and while the weather disappointed (we got off and on rain), the chalet sure didn’t! No complaints!
The previous review posted just before we were set to arrive, so we were actually a bit nervous before we got there, but even before we entered the home, our fears went away. It welcomed us with open arms, lit up like a shining star on the mountaintop. The inside is just so cozy with Christmas lights sparkling and warm wooden shiplap covering the walls from floor to ceiling.
There is so much to do at the chalet, between foosball, air hockey, and an arcade in the downstairs level (which the kids were basically attached to, lol), two great areas to sit and watch movies, and many spaces to gather for quiet conversations and games – to say nothing of the sauna and the hot tub, which were both AWESOME - so even if the weather doesn’t cooperate, you won’t regret your time spent there!
We still did manage to enjoy the snow and we sure enjoyed watching the more intrepid skiers and snowboarders darting past the chalet through the large picture windows that make you feel like you are basically out on the slopes yourselves. The hot tub is almost perfectly placed so you get to watch the action on the slopes without anyone on the slopes being able to see you.
All in all, we had a wonderful stay. I’d be lying if I said that there weren’t some tears shed when we had to leave! I’d give this place ten stars if I could. We will definitely come back!

First I would like to start out by saying that the host was very pleasant with her correspondences prior to arrival.
This house was in the middle of nowhere. We took one lane roads for approx 30 minutes prior to arrival at the house. And I live in the middle of nowhere in southern WV but it doesn't compare to this location. You are about 45 mins to an hour from anything that we could find. The pictures are misleading in my opinion. Being unfamiliar with the area and seeing that it was right on Bryce Ski Resort slopes, we assumed that this would be in a nice & happening area but that was not the case. We never seen a resort and what we did see was closed. To me the area appears to have seen it's better days LONG ago. If you are trying to stay here with snow on the grow or the possibility of ice on the road I do not know how you could access this location. The road up to this location is extremely steep and the driveway is hard to maneuver and steep.
The house is obviously very old and has not been updated but had band-aids put on the surface to make it appear better. We could not get the heat in the house to go above 66 degrees. We had to sleep in our shirts and pants with sock on and several blankets with our heads covered up to stay warm. The owner was made aware. She did respond back and stated an HVAC man was supposed to be there one of the days we were staying and that the unit was old and needed to be babied.
The house may have been straightened up before we got there but it had not been cleaned well. The floors had not been cleaned, the dishwasher was nasty, Q-tips stuck to walls, empty packaging in drawers, etc.
The outside grill was on its last leg and almost rusted in to. The boards on the porches and steps have outlived their life and the bottom step of the entrance is completely rotted.
Do not rent this place if you have any issues with steps. The steps up the main entrance are very steep and could be dangerous when wet. The lighting outside is awful so it is hard to see when maneuvering the steps after dark. There are several flights of steps inside as well and they are steep also.
The hot tub was at 84 degrees when we arrived at 4 PM and did not warm up to 102 until approx. 10 PM that night. Then when we came in from a long day at work the 2nd day of our stay it was again down to 84 degrees and we could not use it.
I hate leaving such a negative review but this home makes me think twice about using VRBO again!

We chose this cabin for its views and access to hiking during the first weekend of October. Unfortunately, we were there as Hurricane Ian hit! We were lucky to have chosen such a great spot: between the hot tub, sauna, game room, and entertainment systems, we turned what would have been several days of hiking into a cozy, rainy getaway for nine guests between the ages of nine months and sixty-five.
Speaking of which, the proprietor is very sweet and when she heard we had an infant coming, she made sure to have a high chair waiting for us!

We’ll be back
Ten minutes after our arrival, the 5 g’kids were asking can we come here again! With the table games, hot tub, sauna, largest TV screen I’ve ever seen, walkout to the slopes, and more this was a great house for kids of all ages. There’s a dining table big enough to seat 9-10 and a kitchen large enough to comfortably prepare meals for them. Plus, 5 bedrooms and 4 full baths solved all sorts of usual problems. To top it all off, the AC kept all 3 floors comfortably cool. It was a wonderful place.

an entertaining house
good place to stay for a family that enjoys being close to the action and having a floor for the young to enjoy and for the adults.

Dolly's chalet was beautiful and perfect for our spring break getaway. It would have been even better had we been there during ski season or mountain biking season when we could get straight to the slopes from the back deck, but even without that, the sauna, hot tub, well-stocked kitchen and beautiful atmosphere made for a very relaxing experience for our family. Dolly was a great communicator and we will definitely be back again.
If you have a young family, I would definitely recommend the loop hike around Laura Lake. Short and beautiful!

The Perfect Location for our Ski Trip!
We had the absolute best time here! The listing matched the house and description. We loved having access to the beginner slope to ski in/out. The hot tub was wonderful at night after a long day of skiing. We enjoyed watching other skiers through the picture window during our breaks. Highly recommend this Chalet and Dolly. We hope to be back soon!

Great Location!
This property was right on the slopes and had great views from both the house and HOT TUB. The house is big enough for a large family and well equipped. We had a blast.
