About this house rental

If you're looking for authentic Floridian charm reminiscent of Hemingway's Key West debut, this luxurious coastal masterpiece is your ticket. Occupying a premier double lot on the corner of Vanderbilt Dr. and 96th Ave N., you'll awake to a sunrise spectacle over the palm-lined canal next door and enjoy the convenience of knowing that the high-end amenities and warm sands of Vanderbilt beach are walking or biking distance away.

Despite major renovations, this home maintains its most priceless treasures, such as the detailed hardwood foyer and fireplace – author H.G. Wells originals – and the timepiece wooden staircase and ceiling with a leather inlay as well as a wet bar just off the indoor living area. Some of the original bricks also remain, including the lanai-enclosed freeform pool and one-of-a-kind spiral staircase leading to a spectacular southern exposure sundeck above with sun loungers and excellent overlooks.

Indoors is a three-bedroom, 2.5 bath oasis with plenty of unique living spaces as well as a classy outdoor lounge area with a live-fire centerpiece, gas grill, and dining area overlooking the surrounding gardens. Then there's the warm and sophisticated central living and dining room with a sit-down bar and an impeccable kitchen with high-end appliances, a central island, and all the tools to get creative with each meal. Enjoy a fun family gathering in the open concept living/dining room while watching your favorite shows or sports on the huge Picture Frame TV over the fireplace! The TV room sports a comfy high-end queen size sofa bed. It also opens to the lania as well as the Great Room through beautiful french doors. And while the kids swim, you can relax in the pool-side den with a comfortable sofa, recliners, and a flat-screen entertainment and gaming center.

Three spacious bedrooms await. All boast the home's elegant coastal theme with deluxe orthopedic mattresses and views of the lagoon and the quiet neighborhood from every window. The upstairs Master Suite has a divine King-sized bed, a deck overlooking the canal, and a beautiful marble-tiled bath with a glass walk-in shower and separate tub. Bedroom two and three offer a Queen or two twin bed options, spacious closets, and an adjacent full bath. Smart TVs and high-speed internet are found throughout, as well as top-of-the-line linens and other homey comforts.

The neighborhood lies in the heart of Naples, close to several high-end resorts like the Ritz Carlton and family-friendly beaches with sunbeds and beach toys for rent. There are plenty of fabulous dining and nightlife options along the shoreline, as well as the renowned Mercato shopping and entertainment mecca a few blocks away, gourmet grocery stores, cinemas, and Florida-famous shopping. You'll be inspired to write your own bestseller after experiencing all this beautiful home has to offer.

Let’s start with the good, the location is excellent, just off Vanderbilt Rd, a short drive to most of Naples. There is a nice covered outdoor space by the pool. Good to work and relax in. The bad. The air conditioning in the house is either badly outdated, or the owner intentionally governs it. You are instructed to keep the temperature at no less than 74 degrees, which is very uncomfortable. Sleeping was very hard as the master bedrooms are upstairs, and even at 74 degrees, the air conditioning went out a few times. The house is full of old repurposed wood, which I guess came from a home owned by H. G. Wells. While the concept of wood coming from a famous author’s home sounds interesting, it does not suit the SW Florida decor. The furniture is neither comfortable or usable. There isn’t a lot of really usable space to hang out, spend time with people, etc. I would say the outdoor space is enjoyable. The cleanliness of the place is very average. The linens are older and cheap. The beds have old box springs; either that or they are very cheap. The first time we cleaned the sheets, we were quite disturbed by what we found. All in all, an underwhelming rental.
