The Volcano Cottage had everything we needed and was very cozy! We love the location so close to the National Park entrance too!

This property was very clean, comfortable, and peaceful. My husband has severe asthma, but we noticed no hint of mold problems that a few other reviewers had mentioned. We plan to stay here again.

From the moment you enter the cul-de-sac and the approach to the cottage you get the feeling that this is your home sweet home a slice of island life.
Then as you enter the home, you can see the floors are as clean as your own home so you walk around bare feet. The TLC and layout of the home gets my high five. It gets cold, 45-50 degrees F and the space heaters are nice and comfortable bring the interior to a comfy 68 degrees in a matter of a half hour. No fuss stove adds to the warmth and ambiance.
The drive to Kailua-Kona takes you along rural seascapes dotted with smaller communities reflecting the Hawaii of old, not to mention the short jaunt into Hilo and the Hamakua Coast.
If you are seeking value within your budget, Volcano Cottage gets my vote! Keep up the good work.

It is very close to the Volcanoes National Park.

Just right for a long, comfortable stay in Volcano

This place was a great location located just three minutes up the road from the golf course and winery in the Volcano area and five minutes from the national park entrance. Note to bring drinkable water with you or buy some in Volcano village (also close by). Great neighborhood.

The location, just across Hwy 11 from the Military Camp in HVNP (with gated road that bicyclists can navigate) means we could bicycle into HVNP without having to ride on Hwy 11. The wrap around deck on the house was good weather protection for our cycles overnight. The neighborhood is safe and well maintained. There are dogs and various fowl in the area - don't expect to sleep late. Otherwise, its a quiet neighborhood.
The beds are comfortable. Nice bedding and linens were provided. There is dish soap, sponge, paper towels, salt and pepper in kitchen. The bathrooms have little bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion. Pump bottles of hand soap at each sink.
I have three issues with the house that lowered my rating.
1) The VRBO listing says the house has "water catchment", but after booking, Vacasa sends information that in the fine print says "guests should bring their own drinking water". The brochure in the house says "the water is filtered for consumption." This ambiguity was annoying. Did the property manager KNOW the water was not potable, or was this CYA because some guests freak out about drinking rainwater? We couldn't get a straight answer from either the Vacasa help line nor the local property manager. Who knows, but we got all out drinking water from the HVNP Visitor Center just in case (which is also rainwater catchment, but from the taste, obviously heavily chlorinated.) The listing, the in-house information, and the Vacasa property management fine print should be consistent!
2. The lower kitchen cabinets apparently were water damaged at some time, making them extremely moldy. All pots, pans, utensils, etc. stored in them had that stench - just as the entire house did before we aired it out. I recommend that before booking, ask if the lower kitchen cabinets have been replaced since Feb 2023 - apparently that is the plan, but in the meantime - the visible mildew & stench after opening a cabinet made the entire kitchen not very appealing for eating or cooking.
3) Several lamps in the house not plugged in because broken. The lounge furniture is old, the bedroom wicker dresser is mildewy. Some pots/pans are not in good condition. It's as if the house owner does not want to invest in maintaining the property. Note that the house interior was very clean, the problems are with the house fixtures and cabinets. Thankfully the fireplace plus lounge fan worked well - it was cold the week we were there.

Check in process was flawless. The house was very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. Plenty of extra blankets are provided as it gets chilly at night. Very safe and quiet neighborhood- 2 miles from Hawaii Volcanoes NP!! Made for a perfect location for heading to the park at nighttime. Also close to Punalu'u Beach and beaches around Hilo (we loved Carlsmith Beach Park)!
Tip: Pick up groceries in Hilo, there aren't many stores/food options in Volcano.

This property was perfect for our family of four. It is 5 minutes to the Volcano's National Park entrance and close to several restaurants in Volcano Village. The house was a bit musty but that isn't uncommon with rentals I've used on the islands before. The air is so fresh that after the windows are opened, it clears it right up. You do have to take your trash to the transfer station, the closest one was not going to be open on the day we needed to take it so we found one about 7 miles away in Glenwood/Mt View that was open Tu/Fri/Sat right off Old Volcano Rd. We used the Foodland in Keaau for our groceries and that worked out well, it is almost halfway between Hilo and Volcano and easy to get to. Overall I would recommend this vacation property.

Large kitchen..lots of towels.. comfortable bed ..large lanai..washer dryer.

Super quiet neighborhood. Enough room for our family of 4. Close to the park and small town.

The location was perfect, the house was super clean. Doesn’t make sense for guests to have to deal with disposal of their garbage when the transfer station is only open 3 days a week 🤷🏽♂️😡

This was just the right size for our family, in a quiet neighborhood only a few minutes from Volcano National Park. We loved the huge porch, new bathroom fixtures and cozy blankets.
4.4
Perfect location for volcano viewing. House was very clean and had all the basics. Living room furniture should be updated for comfort and looks.
4.4
Nice, quiet location very near to Volcanoes National Park. Comfy beds. Nice living room. Very nice porch - on all 4 sides of the house.
4.4
Many pros. The kids loved that there was a lot of space. Two bedrooms, 2 bathrooms was nice. Big fridge in the kitchen. has a washer/dryer on the porch. wrap around porch with outside table in the back.
Only significant con for us was the slight musty smell.
There are space heaters and a dehumidifier in the closet. we didn't use these. It was cool in the morning, but that was fine for us.

We did notice a slight musty smell. Other than that it was a nice, spacious place. The kids had their own room and bathroom. There was a kitchen table and a table outside. There was a washer/dryer. We found it quiet and comfortable.

We loved the Volcano cottage. It was very spacious and comfortable. The beds were comfortable and there were blankets to keep you warm in cooler temperatures. We sat outside on the porch to drink our coffee and to eat dinner. It was very peaceful. The cottage is located so close to the Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, it was easy to go see the lava at night because you have such an easy drive back.
4.4
This cottage was very clean, nicely decorated and perfect for two couples, or maybe a family. Heating was a bit of an issue until we discovered the heaters in the closets. We didn’t cook dinners but did find everything we needed for breakfasts.
The neighborhood was very quiet and we enjoyed our stay. It was very close to the volcano national park entrance so easy to go explore there.

Stayed here with my family (2 adults, 2 teens) while visiting the east side of the island. Absolutely loved it. Bird watching every morning and I didn’t hear they frogs that seemed to be everywhere else. Proximity to the National park entrance meant that we could visit multiple days, enter and leave the park before the crowds arrived and visit at night when the magma was easier to see. Bring all food with you-restaurants in the area are few and packed (or be sure to make a reservation in advance). Plenty of dishes and cookware, but really isn’t anything else in the house (no oil or salt or the like).

We really liked the cottage and it was very nicely decorated. It was a little cold in the winter mornings and a bit difficult to turn the gas fireplace on. There were space heaters.

Very easy check in, quite cul-de-sac just down the road from a great winery. The house was spacious and had everything you need to enjoy your stay.
