When we arrived (on a very hot day), it was 84 degree in the house. I tried to adjust the temperature but couldn’t, so I messaged our host who responded very timely and said that the AC was set to turn on before we arrived but she hadn’t anticipated the extra heat outside, so it would take awhile for the house to cool. The listing said there was a hot tub, so I inquired about the location of that since we couldn’t find it. The host said there had never been a hot tub and that I must be looking at the wrong listing. I sent a screenshot of the listing, and the host updated me that it was a mistake with no apology. I understood that mistakes happen, but we partially booked this place for the hot tub. We couldn’t actually adjust the house’s temperature to lower than 74 degrees. I messaged the host, and they lowered it to my requested temperature, but it was very odd that we couldn’t control the temp. Several hours went by, and the house had only cooled to 78 degrees. I messaged our host asking if they knew how long it normally takes for the whole house to cool (I had a 3 month old with). The host responded that the AC was working hs, 78 wasn’t unbearable, and anyone who wanted it cooler to sleep in the basement (where 1 bedroom was). No apology. Finally, we were out of the house around 9:55 AM (time to leave was 10) and were in the driveway giving hugs and goodbyes. The host called me at 10:02 saying the cleaner was waiyimg and we were supposed to be out by 10. Not ideal.

On the surface, the property is incredible: great furniture, beautiful deck and appliances. Issues we had: floors were dirty, pans and utensils had food on them, and unsafe looking wiring (china hutch in dining room and wire sticking out of the wall in the basement. basement.)

Beautiful rural property with expansive deck, furniture, outdoor kitchen. Only one upstairs queen bed a one lower level, but full beds were adequate. Immaculate condition, much more space than needed. We didn’t really use the large family room in the lower level at all. Convenient to Viroqua (about seven minutes), the golf course, and many miles of excellent trout fishing. Really a pleasant surprise to find such a gem. We will definitely return.

A few things that we appreciated: The property was clean. There Kitchen was appointed adequately. The deck and porch space was nice and it had an overhang to stay out of the sun and rain. The property and space were very peaceful.

We switched from motel rooms to this property for our annual fly fishing trip this year. Great location and perfect for five people. Fantastic deck and plenty of places to hang out and tell fishing stories. Quiet and scenic location. Kitchen and grill had everything we needed to prepare meals. We’ll definitely rebook for next year.

Vernon County is a beautiful area. You are literally on top of the world when driving along the ridge. The accomodations were nice, but noted that there were houses surrounding the property. We wished we could have come when the corn wasnt so high, as it obstructs the veiw a bit. The deck is beautiful and we were fortunate to have excellent weather. Also the host and hostess were great communicators!

We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely home! Plenty of room for the 6 of us, and the home was very comfortable with plenty of activities on the property. We enjoyed using the game room, the fire pit, the swing, and spending time relaxing on the large deck. Also the home is in a quiet area and very close to other nature attractions. Thank you for a memorable stay!

We really enjoyed our stay at Driftless Retreat! There were 8 of us in our group and we had plenty of room for everyone and had a great time with the pinball machine, ping pong table and the entertainment area downstairs. We also loved being able to all sit out on the deck and catch up and star gaze. Susan was very responsive and easy to work with.

This location serves us well with Altar Fly Fishing and the retreats we lead in the Driftless Area. With ample spaces to spread people around, share meals and gather for teaching and conversation, we are grateful for the opportunity to use this location.

This rental was perfect for our group of five friends The space was perfect for conversations , both inside and outside. The quiet countryside just enhanced the relaxed vibe that this house provided. The house was furnished and decorated beautifully and we instantly felt at home. The location was perfect as a base for touring the surrounding towns. We wouldn’t hesitate a second to rent this house again if we go back to the area

This property is in a very beautiful countryside peaceful area. It is nicely located to several areas. We enjoyed some shopping in Viroqua. We also took a trip to Sunrise orchard in Gays Mills. I would point out that if anyone is on the older side and stairs are tough, be aware that it does have stairs up to bedrooms and down to basement. The main area is wonderful for lots of people to spread out and the deck is amazing!

Location was serene. Plenty of space. Home was nicely furnished and clean. We were able to each have our own bedrooms. Being women, we were pleased with having 3 bathrooms. Travel time to La Crosse and Prairie du Chien was approximately 45-50 minutes which was convenient when looking for shops, wineries etc. There is a great Mexican restaurant in downtown Viroqua. Owners of the VRBO responded quickly when we had questions. It was a great place to stay.

This is an amazing property. We rent a house to spend our anniversary with our kids and grand kids every year and this property was one of the best ever. The location amenities and experience was one of our best. Susan, the host was great to work with and the property exceeded all of our expectations. We are already planning for our stay here next year!

The space exceeded our expectations! There were 10 of us and no issues with feeling confined or crowded. Plenty to do and see in the area, even with the rain on Friday a.m. Highly recommend this rental. The hosts were very prompt and accomodating with replies and hospitality.
