Siltcoos Lake:
The largest lake on the central Oregon coast is also one of the region’s best fishing lakes, especially for warm water fish including largemouth bass.
It also is one of the few lakes in Oregon where you can keep a wild coho salmon in season.
Siltcoos Lake is a sprawling 3,164 acres located between Florence and Reedsport in the wonderful dune country of the central coastline.
Siltcoos is one of the most celebrated largemouth bass fisheries in Oregon and is among those mentioned in our article, Best Largemouth Bass Fishing in Western Oregon.
You’ll find tons of good bass cover all over the lake here, including fallen trees, drop-offs, points, islands and numerous coves and several longer creek arms. There also are some docks, especially where there are a fair number of private homes along the banks on the west and north sides of the lake, many clustered around the communities of Dunes City and North Beach.
Bass will often move up into the shallower water during the spring, when they spawn just off shore, and they can be aggressive then. They will stage a bit more off shore at other times.
Crappie also like to hang out around structure and may be found in shallower water during the spring. Sunken trees and pilings are good places to start.
Also, the lake is known to have good populations of less-pursued species including yellow perch, sunfish and bullhead catfish.
Trout are not the primary quarry for anglers here, but the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife does stock a modest number of rainbow trout here. Look for those plantings to take place in late winter or early spring (March and April are good times to check the stocking schedule linked below).
Native cutthroat trout also live in the lake and its tributary streams and may be kept as part of your daily trout limit.
The coho salmon fishery here opens in October and runs through December. Fishing for these fish is usually not productive until significant rainfall draws in these large fish, which most often happens in November.
There are a modest number of coho caught and kept here, but it’s a fairly unique opportunity. Boaters catch most of the adult coho, often by trolling wobbling lures in the creek channels the salmon use to return to their home streams.
What’s nearby:
This home is a quick drive from multiple access points to the Oregon Dunes and ocean
beaches including the popular access just out South Jetty Road, and the city of Florence is five miles north. The charming Old Town section of the city
is filled with lovely shops, cafes, galleries, and restaurants.
You will also be minutes from numerous trailheads for hiking or mountain biking. The
coastal forests flourishing in Douglas fir and Sitka spruce extend nearly to the Ocean.
Some trails wind up, over, and through sand dunes, offering hikers the opportunity to
experience the unique natural wonders of this area. Bring your camera!
Paddle Siltcoos River between Siltcoos Lake and the Pacific Ocean. This slow-moving,
three-mile river is so ideal for paddlers that it’s a designated Canoe Trail.
Take a scenic drive up Hwy 101 to Heceta Head Lighthouse where free tours are
offered daily.
Get your adrenalin flowing on a nearby dune buggy tour or with an ATV rental, or go crabbing from the Siuslaw Bay public fishing pier at the end of South Jetty road
where crabbing is excellent from late spring until the fresh water from winter rains force
the crabs out to the ocean.

Beautiful lake setting. Quiet, but still near town and ocean dunes and shore. We really enjoyed our stay.

Our family loved staying here it had almost everything you need. Super clean and gorgeous views. Only upgrades needed are one key locks, low flow shower heads and automatic garage door openers.

We enjoyed our stay at this house and would definitely stay here again. Recommend adding storage space to unpack. We were surprised there were no dressers or closets. Private road and driveway is steep and best suited for an all-wheel or 4-wheel drive vehicle. House was very private and outside space beautiful with phenomenal views. House was very clean and at a great location.

We loved the view of the lake and mountains from this home. The decorating was also fabulous. The layout was nice for a family of 4, plus grandparents who stopped in from a local RV camp for dinner and visits. The home sleeps up to 3 couples (6 people). We enjoyed picking blackberries along the long, steep driveway (definitely do not bring an RV up here!). And then seeing a deer the next morning eating from the same blackberry bushes. Sunsets over the lake were so serene. The home was close to Florence and the sand dunes. We would definitely come back.

Everything about this place is great. The location and the view are beautiful. The house exceeded all expectations. It is very clean and met all our needs. I wish we could have stayed longer. Thanks

Great location, lovely yard for dogs and beautifully renovated home with all the necessary amenities, except one, a clean place. Upon walking in thru the garage, we encountered what smelled like a kennel, that eau du fecel smell. We tried airing out the place with no luck. I resorted to scrubbing the hallway and guest bathroom floor to finally get rid of the smell.
I tried not to imagine that we had walked across feces for an evening until I scrubbed the floor, which could have ruined our vacation, but we probably did. Not what we expected from this property. Love the area, lots of things to do, but cleaning up a rental the first day is not my idea of fun.

Very nice place comfortable and efficient. Try to familiarize the location in the daytime to avoid unnecessary stress. Once you do, it’s easy access to everything and a comfortable 15 minutes to town.

This was the perfect vacation home for our family of 4. The home is very clean & new with beautiful views & deck. Our pup loved the enclosed yard and deck. It's a quick drive to beaches & town. We found so many fun things to do around Florence, including sandboarding (just rented from the roadside booth for $10). Had a fantastic meal at Bridgewater Fish House - can't wait to come back!

Our vacation was so perfect and we can thank all of that to the home we stayed in. Perfect yard for dogs and afternoon hangs! The view was out of this world, cleanliness of the house and yard. Close to so many good shops and restaurants! Thank you for everything.

Total renovation...felt like the house was brand new. Light and bright. Clean, comfortable, well stocked and a great view of the lake. Firepit was nice to sit around in the evening and seemed to be protected from the wind. The detached game room was a nice touch with futon for extra sleeping. Steep gravel driveway is the only thing that could be improved but understand it is expensive to pave.

This is our second time working with this property management company via VRBO. The home overlooks the lake and the views are fantastic! The amenities are all new and easy to use. The house is cozy and was perfect for my mom and self. We highly recommend taking advantage of this location for your next holiday!

Very clean, lots of activities in vicinity of rental, comfortable sleeping arrangements, great deck for enjoying the lake view. Just a couple of suggestions; use a digital lock system rather than lock box and have a “notebook” with recommendations of activities maybe some brochures, checkout procedures, Wi fi information, etc. We really enjoyed the property.

Home was well appointed especially the kitchen which had everything needed. Plenty of space for 4 people Really enjoyable to sit on the deck and look at the hills and lake below Table fireplace was great to take the chill off Quiet and peaceful but close enough to Florence and outdoor attractions Would recommend !

We were all delighted with this home on our almost annual get together. All of us were very impressed with the decor and attention to details. The view of the lake and sunsets were outstanding. This home is at the end of the road and the quiet was perfect! The kitchen was equipped with pretty much the basics for cooking, but you must bring everything to actual cook with - there is salt & pepper there. Plenty of pillows, towels as well as lap robes to use. We never made it to the playroom located just outside but it looked well equipped and would be lots of fun to use. We relaxed, talked, laughed and played cards - totally relaxing! You won't be disappointed vacationing here!

The house was just as described and pictured online. Plenty of room for 2 couples. It's a little off any many roads or heavy traffic areas so it was very quiet, peaceful and relaxing. Wouldn't mind coming back.

Peaceful place
Great view. Quite and peaceful. Clean and new. The interior design is well done by someone with taste (often my wife and I find that VRBO operators have an affinity for tchotchke overload). The close proximity to Florence is nice, as well as the many beaches, lake areas and parks. Darlings Marina, suggested by the operator as a place to get a "local bite", offers awesome BBQ, and a view to boot. The home has recently been redone,. Very fresh feel to the home. The deck area is wonderful. We saw over ten different species of birds from the deck viewing area. The operator has furnished the home with all the items you would expect plus bonuses like the Weber grill, and comfortable outdoor seating. Would use this VRBO again given the opportunity. Parents likely appreciate the location of the foosball area, as it is in a separate space.
