About this house rental
“In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.”-J.R.R. Tolkien
You don’t have to go to New Zealand to stay in a hobbit house! Hand-built by our family, this cozy in-hill cabin located in the lower area of our property is something right out of a Tolkien novel. Very LGBTQ+ And BIPOC friendly.
This one room Hobbit Hole has everything in it's 7.5x15.5' (cozy): Comfy convertible bed/couch complete with linens, a small table with 2 chairs for playing games and eating, puzzles, games, snacks, hot water kettle, coffee maker, bluetooth speaker, electric fireplace, books, sketchpad with colored pencils, and more! A rustic wooden floor (with some paint splatters) and a braided rug give you a feeling of comfort and home. On site we have a private portable bathroom complete with hand-washing station, and an outside combination fire pit and charcoal barbecue with a grill top and s’mores sticks provided so you can cook over a wood fire or coals! And an outdoor table and chairs that are super comfortable!
The house itself is heated, insulated, and has working electricity/outlets for computer or phone charger. Clean bedding and pillows provided, washed in fragrance-free detergent between each guest. We provide a full water jug with spigot, hot water kettle, teapot, assorted teas, an empty growler to use, 2 pint glasses and 2 mugs. Private area of the yard with plenty of room to relax. We have a disc golf goal and discs to use as well.
Firewood is available for purchase onsite for $10/milk crate full. This comes with a kindling kit. Territorial views of the tree line and sunset views to die for! We are located near Meigs Park as well as a 10-minute walk from Manitou beach and an easy bike ride to the ferry that goes to Seattle! 2 miles from the Grand Forest and 3 miles from Battle Point park. We are exactly 3 miles from the ferry terminal in a convenient mid-island location.
NEED TO KNOW (managing expectations):A note on the bathroom: the hobbit hole is small and will not fit a bathroom or plumbing. Your nearby private portable restroom is cleaned thoroughly between each guest and serviced (pumped out) weekly. We consider our listing to be “glamping”. Also our property borders a local 2 lane highway and you can expect road noise mostly during the day and evening. While it is a private setting you can expect to hear the road. Weekends and evenings it is quieter, and when the door is closed it is quiet.
The Hobbit House is suitable for 2 guests or 2 adults and a small child that can share the bed. The bed is a queen size, and we can't allow sleeping on the floor as the door opens inwards and is a safety concern. However, additional guests are welcome to bring a tent and camp outside, for $20/tent, up to 6 additional guests or 2 tents, whichever is smaller. Let me know when you are booking that you'd like to bring additional guests and we will adjust the costs accordingly.

Couldnt have asked for a more cozy nook to spend an anniversary:) Everything was included and well thought out on the host's part. We added our own fairy lights to make the interior extra homey. Felt private, with the open invitation to ask the host any questions we had. Unavoidable road noise was the only con, but the red tail hawk flying through the yard and views of the trees well made up for it.

Staying in this cozy Hobbit Hole was a dream come true without having to fly all the way to NZ! My partner and I had a wonderful time together! We're already talking about when we can make the trip and come back! 💚

What a fun experience! I loved Bainbridge Island. Enjoyed some shopping, sightseeing, restaurants & hiking! The highlight was my stay in the Hobbit House! Such a cute cozy place to stay! I really enjoyed it! Mary the owner was awesome to communicate with, & even delivered home made cookies. What a treat! I highly recommend this place for a fun getaway!

I was looking for a short time away after the busy holiday weekend. I own a small biz, so between family and black friday/small biz saturday, I knew I would need some solitude. This adorable little hobbit house was exactly what I needed. It was perfect for just little ol me. The host even left me some delicious homemade cookies! It was very cold, but the electric fireplace kept the space toasty warm. Some tea, a good book, and a little nest made up on the futon and I was a happy gal. Everything was clean and self-explanatory. I will definitely keep this in mind the next time I need a little break from the world.

The ultimate cozy stay for anyone who loves LOTR or who just wants a unique experience in a beautiful place. The host was incredibly helpful with some booking difficulties, and the butterscotch cookies she had for us on arrival were amaaaazing! it made my partner's birthday weekend the best. 10000/10 reccomend!

My partner and I spent a couple nights in the lovely Hobbit House as part of our anniversary trip to the area. This labor of love was the perfect homebase for our time on the island. The hosts have created a perfectly cozy spot to rest and recharge with an incredibly comfortable bed (it's like a flannel cloud). We enjoyed treats from local bakeries (Panne d'Amore and Blackbird) and truly excellent poke from Hi Life.
This is a glamping experience for sure - with its own dedicated (and well maintained) outhouse. The hosts have taken great care to light the pathway for guests and they also provide video links with directions and instructions to make your stay seamless and enjoyable.
We're so happy to have had this unique experience as part of our anniversary!

Very nice! A different type of feel. Sort of like when I was a kid w my imagination trying to build a “fort.” Far better than a fort though, but it reminded me of those days, just having fun w no cares in the world. Absolutely loved it. Cookies were awesome.

This Hobbit House was the perfect one night stay for my Mom & I on our last night in Washington State. We were greeted by the owner upon our arrival. My Mom loved the story of how the house came to be. We had so much fun looking at all the little items that made up the decorations. Thank you for allowing people to stay at such a unique place!

Clean, cozy and homemade cookies were a bonus! Rainy night otherwise, we would have been taken advantage of firepit.

What a fun place! Everything was as described, property is beautiful with lots of birds, rabbits. Host was friendly and lodging was sparkling clean, as well as porta potty. Can’t wait to visit again!

It was a unique opportunity to stay in a cozy hobbit house. We really appreciated all the efforts to immerse you in an experience of an alternate reality. Loved the warmth, creativity and the natural beauty that surrounded us. Loved the detailed tour guide directions provided. Loved our morning walk to the beach with it's view of Seattle.
What we did not love was the torture of trying, but not sleeping, on the sofa/futon nor the distance to the outdoor toilet.
But, overall, it was an experience we are glad we enjoyed together.

My wife and I stayed here for an overnight while visiting friends, everything was as described and it was such a special place. Comfortable and cozy, if you want a Hobbit adventure this is the place to stay. Thanks for the memories.

Had a fun time staying a night here. So much outside space to run around and relax. Had a blast playing disc golf. Porta potty was very clean. The highlight was the lord of the ring references everywhere; the drawings, the quotes, and decorations. Its a lovely little hobbit home. Any fan of middle-earth would love this place.
Now onto the bad part of my stay: On arrival the place did not look like it was cleaned in between guests. There were used mugs on the table with liquids inside, small amount of trash already in the bin, and blankets balled up on the bed, with tree/grass debris on the sheets. I did not feel comfortable sleeping in the bed, didn't get much sleep as i was avoiding using the blanket. Overall still had a good time here, just thinking we were unlucky and others havent experienced this.

Just the spot for a quick getaway. Snuck and warm inside with a small electric fireplace. Walking distance to the shore with interesting neighborhoods to explore. Close to town for picking up a take-at meal. Unique experience!
