About this house rental
Welcome to Barrister Square—a beautiful penthouse in the shadow of the nation’s capital. The property is situated in the center of Alexandria's nationally designated historic district, just a half block from King Street and steps from the sights, shops, restaurants, and nightlife. With over 200 boutiques and independent restaurants, Alexandria is one of the best places to stay in the Washington DC metropolitan area. Barrister Square is a 12 minute ride from Reagan National Airport and less than a mile from the Alexandria King Street metro and Amtrak station.
The property was designed to anticipate your every need, with high-end finishes throughout. The open concept kitchen is fully equipped with brand new appliances and a bar integrated with a spiral staircase that leads to the loft and upstairs bedroom. The unit comes equipped with a brand new appliances, Roku-enabled televisions, and high speed wifi in every room. The primary bedroom on the main level is furnished with a queen bed, dresser, and vintage chaise. The adjacent master bath includes a waterfall rainhead shower and imported Italian tile. There is also a half bath on the main level. The loft area features a large screen television and couch, and the second bedroom includes 2 twins and 1 full size bed. The courtyard outside features a professionally landscaped garden with mature dogwood trees, and provides a quiet respite in the heart of the city.
Barrister Square was originally built as a small grouping of attorneys and law offices in a secluded courtyard in Old Town Alexandria. In the grand tradition of barrister history, Barrister Square honors the great heroes of law and (dis)order, cops and robbers, and crime and punishment. The property was designed with a tribute to the rich barrister tradition…think Bonnie and Clyde, the Supreme Court, Prohibition, and mugshots of notable outlaws.
A quick ride by boat, car, or train and you can find yourself at the National Mall, Georgetown, National Harbor, or Mount Vernon, making Old Town an exceptional home base for visiting our nation’s capital. The King Street Trolley is free and runs between the King Street Metro stop and the waterfront. On the waterfront you will find water taxis that will ferry you to various places on the Potomac River, including Georgetown, the Wharf, National Harbor and Mount Vernon. Capital Bike Share stations are located steps away, making it easy to explore the many miles of bike trails along the Potomac. There are many hiking and biking trails, such as the scenic Mount Vernon trail, that runs along the shore of the Potomac River. Whether you decide to explore the city, go sightseeing in Washington, or stay in and relax, Barrister Square offers a modern and relaxing base to explore and unwind.

Alexandria was a central meeting point for our reunion of old college friends. The apartment is in a fantastic location near many shops & restaurants, and an easy walk to the waterfront.
The place is charming, clean & comfortable. The beds were super comfy and it was very quiet at night.
I'd definitely stay here again when visiting Alexandria.

This was the perfect place to stay and let down after sightseeing in DC all day. The trolley stop was right across the street and plenty of places to eat and the waterfront within walking distance. We loved the history of the area. This place was cozy and would recommend it to anyone!!!

My husband and I, along with two of our young adult sons, really enjoyed our stay here in Old Town. Perfect location and parking wasn’t too much of an issue. We just found a garage a couple of blocks away. The accessibility of everything made it such a great experience, not only to see Old Town but to travel back and forth to D.C. as well. We would definitely return!

We spent a lovely mother’s day weekend in Alexandria and this was the perfect place to stay. Close to everything, clean, and well- appointed. Highly recommend!

Excellent location! There were so many options for tours of the area, shopping and dining within a short distance to this property. The property was very clean, cozy and comfortable.
Would definitely come back in the future.

What a perfect spot to enjoy Alexandria. Steps from everything you need. Funky, clean and so convenient to the Metro for missions to DC. We hope to come back some fine day. Bonus points for adorable little school-children playing gleefully outside the kitchen window every morning. A heartwarming way to get our days started!

We had a great vacation in DC area with our teenage daughters. Old Town is a great place to stay and the location of this studio was perfect- tucked away from the bustle of King Street but yet right in the heart of it.
Layout of the studio was also perfect for our family as there was a master bedroom downstairs for us and a nice bedroom with adjoining study upstairs for the girls giving them lots of privacy.

In the heart of Old Town - the location is perfect. Such a cute home and it’s very quiet at night.

Jen’s loft was an immaculately clean spot located right in the heart of Alexandria, but tucked behind all of the hustle and bustle. The space is well laid out and there’s plenty of room to stretch your legs. If you are going to DC or National Harbor this a wonderful place to rest and recover, full of personality and flare. I’d highly recommend this to any couple, group or family.

This trip was to visit my dad in Arlington. We love staying in Alexandria. This was our first VRBO there instead of a hotel. The location of this property was PERFECT! I would definitely stay here again on a return trip.

Upon discovering the sweet alley leading to a back brick courtyard, we easily entered the charming home. The apartment is so nicely designed and decorated! We adults had a private room on the main floor (next to a spectacular bathroom with rain shower head!) while the 4 teen/young adult girls shared the loft. Comfortable beds, 2 bathrooms, plenty of cookware and tableware for all 6 of us. Cooking was easy in the small but well-equipped kitchen. Exactly what you need! Old Town is simply gorgeous and staying right in the middle of it was perfect for us. Jennifer provided a lot of information about the area. She was an attentive and helpful host! Thank you, Jennifer!

The location of the property was perfect. Each day we would walk to the metro and head into D.C. Each evening we would return and head out to the waterfront and restaurants in Old Town.
The town house had everything we needed for our vacation for 5 nights. We will recommend this property to friends and family and hope to return again.

We had a fantastic Memorial Day weekend here! The apartment is well maintained and beautifully renovated, and had everything we needed to have a comfortable stay with our two kids. Its location is perfect—immediately adjacent to King Street but tucked away in a cute, quiet little square. We were a little concerned about parking, but as it turned out it was never an issue to find a spot within a block of the apartment, and there were multiple garages nearby as well. The host was super communicative and made sure to check in with us during our stay. Overall, I highly recommend staying here and we will definitely be back!

Everybody had their own bed which is the first secret to a successful vacation when traveling with teenagers. Great access to DC, yummy food options and Trader Joe’s for provisions is the rest of the story. We will be back, thanks Jen!

We loved everything about this place! The location can't be beat - within walking distance of several restaurants, shops, Starbucks & CVS. Parking can be difficult in the evening, but we just parked in a garage 3 blocks away. Townhouse was very clean and comfortable. It had everything we could possibly need. We especially enjoyed the collection of games & the Atari! Jennifer was a perfect host! Hopefully we'll be back!

My Dad has taken my 2 Sister's and I to DC at Christmas for 38 years. We are a Military Family Army & Navy so to be able to keep this Wonderful tradition is a Miracle....have not let ANYthing get in the way.
In the recent past when my Sister's family stationed in NoVa, we began our trip with Brealfast in Old Town.
Since the place we went to has closed we thought why not make our own Breakfast in Old Town waking up to the smell of Coffee =)
We had a lovely time, wish we could have stayed longer .
Wishing All a Happy Christmas and a Merry Everything =)

The unit was just as described online and in the photos. The downstairs -- which is up one flight of stairs from the courtyard, but is the lower floor of a two-story unit -- has a large bedroom with a VERY comfortable queen bed and cozy blankets. There is a full bathroom (spacious shower) and another half-bath on this floor, along with the kitchen (full-sized appliances) and a small sitting area with a bar. Upstairs is a well-situated living room/TV area with lots of books and games, if you're taking a respite from sight-seeing. The bedroom upstairs has another large and comfortable queen bed, with two twin beds -- which was great for our kids to stay together. The unit is so close to everything, and one block from a free trolly stop that runs the length of King Street, from the Metro station down to the Warf. We used it to get around on a few occasions, but also enjoyed just walking and window-shopping on our way to various restaurants in Alexandria. We took the Metro into DC (a bus, because the train was undergoing work), and it was an easy jaunt to the station and into the city. We also spent a lot of time just enjoying Alexandria, which we hadn't done before, on prior visits. Jen was a great host, and we would definitely stay here again on another trip to the city!

Very fun location and space. Convenient to restaurants, shops and fun things to do - easy hop into DC or Arlington. Since we there for two weeks found a great little fitness center that let me have temporary access! We live in Florida suburbs so the access to everything just a few steps away was exactl what we were looking for. A taste of city life ! Jennifer was super easy to work with - we will be back!

My family (grandparents, us, 2 kids) stayed here for the weekend. The location was amazing - right around the corner from restaurants and shops, yet tucked away in a little, quiet courtyard with lots of privacy. Easy walking distance to parks and the waterfront. The owner was very responsive, and the property was well-stocked and clean, with lots of wonderful personal touches. Everything was just as we expected from the listing. The space was tight, but the setup made the most of the small quarters. I hope we have the chance to stay again.

Walkable to great restaurants, history and waterfront yet quiet. Historic yet modern and fresh.
We were concerned that parking would be a hassle but it wasn't. We always found a spot on the street within a block / weekdays and weekends.
Definitely would stay here again.

Great Place
Host was really nice and pleasant. Bathroom and appliances were spectacular and beds were super comfortable. My only thing was I thought there were 3 bedrooms instead of two but it worked out fine for our group. She even let me come in a little early. Would definitely stay again. Very lovely home and great location

Fantastic location near everything and modern, efficient space. The eating areas are very small
Great location and nice place but really just room to sleep. Check in confusing since property is in a courtyard off the street and that was not made clear

I was looking for a place to celebrate my FIL’s 80th birthday in Alexandria and Barrister Square proved perfect. We rented the newly renovated upper apartment in the two-residence townhouse. The space was very clean and well designed with beautiful bedrooms and 1.5 baths. The large, full bath was gorgeous and spacious, with a to-die-for shower.
We stayed on the top floor up the spiral staircase where there was a tastefully decorated, bookshelved sitting room and a sweet bedroom with three super comfortable beds (with dreamy linens). My in-laws enjoyed the spacious downstairs bedroom.
Because my husband and in-laws are foodies, I wanted to make certain the kitchen worked for the birthday meal preparation. It exceeded my expectations and was well stocked with all the pots, pans, utensils, dishware, and high end appliances for my husband to cook for the celebration.
It is obvious that much attention was paid to providing the personal touches to meet our needs.
The house is half a block from King Street, and I felt very much a part of the bustling Old Town. There was so much to do both day and night. Coffee shops, restaurants, bakeries, and bars abound, and the commercial streets are dotted with quaint boutiques and interesting shops. On Saturday we grabbed some excellent coffees nearby, and strolled through a busy farmer’s market on our way to the Potomac River waterfront, where there are great public spaces. Lots of shady trees and picnic tables, lots of space for families and couples to eat, relax, and watch the boats.
When we got back, I noticed immediately the magic that is the courtyard — one step in, and the whole busy street scene and it’s noise is left behind. Tucked inside Barrister Square, one feels completely protected and buffered from the jostling energy.
Overall, the property was beautiful, the host was pleasant, and the setting ideal. The Barrister birthday vacation was the perfect gift. Thanks!
