About this house rental
Experience True New Mexico in this traditional Adobe home in Carlsbad. Built in the 1920s, this home has been lovingly updated to modern standards while keeping its rustic charm. Wood ceilings, southwestern decor, & thick adobe walls for peace and quiet. Upstairs there is a kitchen, large living room with 2 sofas & formal dining room. Downstairs in the daylight basement, 3 bedrooms with 2 queen beds & 2 twins. Sleeps up to 8 guests! Great location- walk to Albertsons or CVS or restaurants!
We love this house because it feels so sturdy and cozy, like it's been here a 100 years ( because it has!) but it still has the modern amenities. It has both central air& heat (upstairs only) and mini split AC units in each bedroom( downstairs). Thick adobe walls keep the noise of the world and the New Mexico wind out, so it is peaceful and quiet inside. The location is safe and convenient- walkable to the center hub of town, but on a well lit residential street set back from the main road. We are about 30 minutes from the caverns.
Upstairs we have the living room with dark rustic wood ceilings and original hardwood floors decorated with comfy leather chesterfield sofas ( sleep 2 people if your group has 8), antique coffee table and southwestern pottery/ art/ rugs. The home has WiFi and TV with Roku lets you login to your streaming accounts. There is a stocked kitchen with stainless steel large fridge, dishwasher, and electric range. We provide coffee and tea and spices to get you started, and the little eat-in area seats 2. More seating in the spacious formal dining room with vintage dining set. Access to the backyard is through the kitchen to the large shady fully fenced yard and back patio.
Downstairs in the daylight basement there are three bedrooms ( two queen beds, two twin beds) and the full bathroom. Bedrooms have solid wood bedframes, fluffy cotton European duvets and fuzzy throw blankets, plenty of space, desk/ seating areas, and a few toys for the kids. In the bathroom, we provide body wash, shampoo, and conditioner plus fresh clean towels for our guests.
See our guidebook for tips and suggestions of what to do during your stay. Our Home is professionally cleaned and we pay our cleaners a living wage, so you help the local economy by staying here, plus you get an authentic New Mexico experience! Local hosts are responsive and ready to give tips on the local area or address any issues or concerns.

One lawn chair was broken but other that it was all good. I would stay here again.

The home was easy to find & the code/key was easy retrieve making entry into the home easy as well. Compared to some places we’ve stayed where that’s been hard. The home was clean and well organized. My only complaint was the lack in availability of cleaning products as we were traveling with children and I like to always clean up. The home was pet friendly so being able to travel with our dog was nice. The AC also kept the home cool, which being in the summer, in New Mexico, makes a big difference. All in all we had a wonderful experience and stay and would recommend it to others with families/children or a pet.

It was clean, quiet, and the perfect spot for my family and I to rest. Wouldn't mind staying again.

The property is in a quiet neighborhood. The beds were comfortable. I rated it lower because it was not very clean. The stovetop was dirty and greasy. The oven had lots of burnt on spills, the upstairs toilet had mildew under the rim, and the carpet had several stains that looked pet related. There was no detergent for the dishwasher and when we arrived there were dishes in the dishwasher.

Pleasant place that is close to Alberson's and CVS.

House is cute and in a nice walkable neighborhood. The upstairs of the home (kit, living room, dining) was nice. Owners had a great coffee area set up, only thing was there were not coffee filters, so we didn't get to take advantages of the coffee. The downstairs was disappointing, the carpet is stained and the downstairs area smells. I guess this is good for those who have their pets (which we did not). Each bedroom had an air-conditioner unit. The check-in was smooth, minus the 2 different address listed on the check-in email (one house number different) but we were able to locate the property.

Property is nice when traveling with pets. Back yard could do with a spring cleanup since winter winds blow trash and debris inside the fence line. Upstairs has a terrific living room area and kitchen met our needs. Location is good, close to restaurants and main road connections for Carlsbad Caverns. We appreciate homes that allow for pets. Thank you

We booked this location for 2 nights. They required a one thousand five hundred dollar deposit. They hit our credit card as soon as the reservation was confirmed and held it for two weeks after our reservation which was a total of six weeks. That is obscenely ridiculous! We will not be staying there again and we advise to find a host that is more reasonable in their deposit requirements.

Your house was everything we expected in the perfect location. We spent our days travelling to Guadalupe Mountain National Park and Carlsbad Caverns and then came back in the evening for dinners. Really enjoyed Milton's Brewing, a local taproom.

The jalapeño house is wonderful. Exactly as described. Everything working well. I was surprised there were no washcloths, paper towels, hand soap or toilet paper, so we had to run out and buy them, and the carpeting is a little tattered. I appreciate having a place that allows dogs and the big fenced in yard was awesome! Amenities were spectacular. Nice distance from attractions. The area isn’t very walkable though, it’s not a great neighborhood so we didn’t feel comfortable but the river area is beautiful. Nice plane. We’d stay again! Thanks!!

Our family, including a small dog, loved our stay at The Jalapeño. We are so glad we opted to stay there instead of a hotel. The location was perfect, and the house was very comfortable for all. We would definitely stay here again.

The Jalapeño was a great place for our family to e hit the sites in Carlsbad, NM. We went to the caverns, the water park, and enjoyed just visiting at the house. It is in a great area near the pharmacy, restaurants, and a great grocery store. We did have some struggles with the WiFi but it helped us unplug !

The house was great! I liked that the yard was fenced in for my dog! I like the amenities. It would have been nice to have some coffee there, but everything else and all the little homie details were terrific!

We enjoyed our stay! The kids especially appreciated the board games every night after our outings. The location is phenomenal. Just a half block from CVS, a block from Albertsons, and only a 4 minute drive the the water park and Pecos Lake rec area. We actually rode our bikes from the house to the river and did the bike trail that goes around it. We had a great time, and it was a great house to come back to each night!

The house was very comfortable. Every bedroom had its own thermostat so everybody could sleep comfortably. The kitchen was adequately equipped and had a nice outdoor grill. The Southwest decor was fitting for our trip.

We will stay here any time we return to Carlsbad! The home is comfortably decorated, and well sized for a family of five plus two dogs. The pups loved the yard, and my youngest child enjoyed the puzzle and games. There is even food items and spices so you can get by until you get to Albertsons (within walking distance) and you don’t have to buy huge bottles of spices you’ll never fully use on vacation. My entire family wished we’d been able to stay longer!

The Jalapeno was located in a quiet neighborhood and close to great restaurants and grocery/drug stores. The kitchen was well equipped. The living room had games and a smart tv. The AC worked great in all rooms. The carpet downstairs is older but clean. We enjoyed our stay and appreciated the restaurant suggestions.

The Jalapeño was a wonderful place for us to stay! It was a great home, in a perfect location. Our 2 pugs enjoyed it, too! We were able to see both Carlsbad Caverns and White Sands, and had a couple great meals close by, as well. Would recommend to anyone!

Nice property good location - there was a lack of paper products only half roll of TP in each bathroom no extra rolls. Up stairs was too hot we opened the doors to cool it down. Wi-Fi instructions given needs to be up dated to match the router.
6.0 / 10.0
Cooling system on main level never got the rooms below 81 degrees. Never could get the internet password (s) to work. Patio area outside no shade and you have the next door neighbors watching you through their windows. Carpet downstairs was filthy. House had weird set up and not two bathrooms but one and a half. Bathroom downstairs had shower and tub combo as well as the toilet on a raised platform. If you aren’t careful it’s dangerous and house not good if you have any mobility issues. Would not rent again. Had to call host because never got any communication before we showed up at property as to how to access house. That was stressful and unacceptable.

This home was beautiful & the communication with the host was quick & easy. We felt like we were at home even though we were more than 7 hours from home. The home is located in a quiet neighborhood across a small church & behind a CVS. Everywhere we went was like 5 minutes from the home, except the Caverns that was more like 30 minutes. The home was nice & cool despite the warm temperatures outside. The laundry room is located outside the front door, but it was not an inconvenience to do 3 loads of laundry. The home was clean inside & out. The half bath upstairs was convenient for our family. All three rooms located downstairs were large & comfortable. The oversized downstairs bathroom was an added bonus! We truly enjoyed our stay & when we return to Carlsbad this will be the home we choose to stay at again. Thank you for a lovely stay!

We loved our stay in The Jalapeño! Cozy furnished kitchen and living space with cool bedrooms. Yard was nice for the dogs to stretch their legs. Grocery 2 blocks away was a great plus. An half an hour from the caverns and an hour from the mountains--would stay again 10/10
