Before delving into the review, it's worth noting that our stay at Mayan Lake Horus post-Hurricane Otis was marked by uncertainty. As a devastating Category 5 hurricane, we weren't sure what to anticipate. However, our decision to visit Acapulco proved immensely rewarding. The resilience of the locals and the town's spirit truly necessitate visitors to start returning.
The aftermath of Hurricane Otis has left the town's infrastructure in disarray, but there's a noticeable effort towards restoration. While remnants of the hurricane's havoc are still evident in the buildings, significant progress has been made in clearing the debris. Isaac's apartment in the Horus Lakes complex bore its share of the impact. Some apartments remain boarded up, and ongoing work signals the community's determination to rebuild. Isaac's decision to remain optimistic, trusting that guests would gradually return, is a commendable achievement. We felt completely safe, the complex and grounds are well fenced and secure with friendly 24hr personnel at the gate.
Despite the challenges, Isaac distinguished himself as an exceptional host. He went the extra mile to ensure our comfort, arranging for WiFi connectivity and providing every possible amenity. Staying at Isaac's apartment afforded us a sense of exclusivity within the complex. For those who appreciate resort-style accommodations sans the usual disturbances like noisy kids, blaring music, or parties, this is an ideal time to visit. While not all the facilities within the complex are open (the clubhouse, pool bars and gym are still not open) we delighted in having a magnificent pool all to ourselves. The Mexican sun still shone, the people of Acapulco are still smiling and the beaches, bars and restaurants are (mostly) open.
Certainly, we would have welcomed amenities such as a clubhouse restaurant, pool bar, gym and working lifts. It would have been preferable to avoid reminders of the devastation, including minor construction (which, noise-wise, never bothered us) and occasional dust from the works. Some of the furniture in the apartment bore water damage, but nothing that hindered our stay. I would suggest that Isaac update (for now) the photos on the website. Some people may appreciate a better representation of the property (the apartment, surrounding buildings and pool) in their present state, post the hurricane. In spite of any small "first-world" inconveniences and amidst such challenging times, the remarkable resilience of the local community shines through - well done Isaac and Acapulco, we had a terrific time!
