Our 3 night stay was great! The renovations didn’t bother us at all, as they weren’t doing work on them during the day. The breakfast staff at the pool every morning was wonderful. Our room was clean and had a beautiful ocean view. There were always plenty of chairs by the pool and beach and wait staff was on top of it! We will definitely stay again!

Surprise Extra charge of $30 for self-parking wasn’t cool. Construction on hot tubs was loud early around 9 am and housekeeping loud and woke us up knocking at 8 when checkout was noon. Overall huge disappointment for the $800 price nightly. Ocean view upgrade was $50 and was an eastern bay, dock view.

Lovely hotel. I’ve stayed here several times. The first in 1980 when it was Kauai Surf, then the Westin 1992, then the Marriott and now Royal Sonesta. Wonderful location and staff!

the elevators to the rooms don't any security and they are easy access to anyone to enter, they are next to a public parking

The hotel was beautiful & rooms were nice & clean. However, our room was only cleaned every other day & we ran out of toilet paper & towels. My son stepped on glass in the pool which cut his foot. He went under the water & found a handful of glass pieces on the bottom of the pool. The pool could have been a bit cleaner. I know this all sounds bad, but I would stay at this property again.

The staff was friendly and accommodating. The grounds were kept clean and landscape was very lush. The rooms could be cleaned a bit more thoroughly between guests. Otherwise great stay for the price.

Beautiful property with a lot of options for recreation. Our room was always clean and cool. The food at the nearby restaurants was delicious. The location is centralized enough t that driving To other places on the island was a breeze. Can’t wait to return!

The hotel was under renovation. I like the fact that they are updating and maintaining the hotel. However, this caused 2 of the 3 restaurants to be closed and a temporary “restaurant “ was opened by the pool. The staff was amazing and the hotel was clean. However, the beach is a public beach which we didn’t realize. The beach itself was not real clean. There was even a homeless individual living in a tent at the one end of the beach.

The setting of the hotel as well as the garden with the koi pond were spectacular. Lots of options for good food within walking distance. The staff was very friendly and courteous. The pool was amazing. Loved it all.

Believe when a resort is under construction (pool area, front desk, other) it should be required to notify guest prior. When we checked in we couldnt hear the desk clerk due to the noise, the pool was a quarter closed due to construction. Realize it is an older resort that needs constant up keep but also it is my vacation dollars that keep it open.

Property is being renovated which limits full accesss. Otherwise, this is the second time my wife and I visited Royal Sonesta and it never disappoint. This time, I took my big family and they too liked the place. Definitely returning when all the construction is completed.

Beautiful resort, but there was a lot of construction going on that I don't think should have been happening during high season of summer. I would have picked a different resort if I knew. Areas by the pool and beach were under construction and that kind of ruined what I saw compared to the web pages. Also, good thing I looked at my final bill, I was charged for 3 days vallet parking, but only used vallet parking the first night. I caught the error at chechout, so it was resolved, but felt stupid for even having to bring it up. 🙂 Also, there is a homeless in his tent right on the beach by Dukes alkng with lots of garbage around his tent.

The property is dated, but clean. There is a lot of construction going on, so the restaurant is under a tent right now near the beach and the pool, which should go around in a full circle, is partitioned off on one side due to construction and two of the five hot tubs are closed. It’s still nice down there, but just an FYI. The best part of this hotel is the service, which was really great. And while the property is dated, our room was nicely updated.

We had a beautiful ocean view room. During a time of craziness with Delta's major mess up, Royal Sonesta was so very helpful. I would recommend the resort to people visiting. It's proximity to the airport was great.

Amazing resort. Right on the beach. Closeness to the airport does not bother at all (you won’t hear anything). There is some construction going on, but that won’t bother you either. Very clean and great staff. The only negative note: self parking is way too expensive and difficult to find a spot closer to the rooms. Shouldn’t parking be included in the rate / resort fee?

Amazingly beautiful hotel. Problem was at over $500 a night the dinner restaurant is closed and there is construction going on at the pool which you do hear loudly when you are at the pool. And the breakfast buffet had minimal food selection at $40pp. Coffee service at the hotel ends at 2pm and the sushi restaurant gets so overwhelmed they stop serving an hour before closing. Birds crap all over breakfast chairs and peck at the buffet food when they can. At this hotel rate, it’s worth staying at only when they correct their problems. Weather was hit and miss at the Sonesta in Lihue. Sun is better in Poipu, in the South.

Kauai makes Maui seem somehow less magical because the people on Kauai are really nice and friendly and the lush greens and beautiful beaches are just special/

Nice location with nice pool and beach right on the property. Rooms are clean and reasonably appointed. Hotel is running a remodel/construction on a small portion off the lobby and pool. Would have been nice to know this in advance. Only a minor nuisance in our opinion.

The beach here is not very nice. I wish we had stayed at Poipu. The shampoo and conditioner provided was horrible. My daughter lost a hairbrush full of hair trying to brush hers out. I called down to the manager Marylou to complain and was told that’s all they have and I was welcome to leave a review. Had to drive to Target at 930pm to get Pantene just to be able to brush my hair out. They say it’s a resort and spa?? For the price we paid I expect much better customer service. Kauai is beautiful but I wish we had not stayed here. Will never stay at another Sonesta property. The Royal Hawaiian on Waikiki was phenomenal.

Loved every moment. We didn’t like the location of the first room we were in and the front desk switched our room to a much more desirable location. Also, we were expecting to pay for parking but at check out were told that we were not charged, which was fabulous. We appreciated Expedia telling us about the resort fee. Love this resort, even with the construction, it did not impede our trip in the least bit. Already planning our trip back.
