This has been a hotel we've wanted to try at Waikiki for a while and the best part about this hotel is the location. It's so convenient to walk out and be on the beach. Food options are also plentiful being in the middle of Waikiki beach.
There were so many good things, but the one bad part is the room location. Having booked a partial ocen view, I was very disappointed in the room I was put in because there was not much of the ocean to be seen. I was put on the side of the hotel near the street side so not only was I not able to see much, but I also had the noise from the street. Maybe this is what I get for the price I paid, but I don't know how they called it a "partial ocean view".
Unfortunately, I travelled with another family and had joined rooms, so they didn't have anything else available that could work for us.

We were just a little disappointed in the cleanliness and attention to detail at the hotel. Perfect location and super nice staff.

It was a beautiful resort but they were doing a renovation so it was really loud all day. Also the balconies are locked in the tower so you don’t get fresh sea air that i was so looking forward to… We were out and about but i felt sad for the families that spent a lot of money to relax by the pool to hear jack hammering all day. Be careful NOT to stay on the street side. Bars are raging until past 1 and you wake to the garbage trucks really early. At first they wouldn’t move us but then they did away from the street and once we moved it was a much better experience. Very convenient to everything. We rented a car from sixt and they were great.

I’m upset with hotels.com. I booked our stay 5 months in advance. A few days before I received an email from Moana saying even tho we booked a room w a balcony. They were doing construction and we are not able to use it at all.. and that they would be doing construction daily 9-5. When I asked if they were going to give us a discount they said they notified our third party vendor which is hotels.com back in January and I would have to try to take it up with them? This did impact our stay and the construction was crazy loud!! I will not be using hotels.com anymore but booking directly. There was no notification of this from them whatsoever. I don’t want to fight hotels.com for an Marriott credit?! I wish they just made it right or notified me when I made the reservation!! All other rooms were booked already so I couldn’t change our reservation.

We stayed here in 2021 for our 10th anniversary and came back this year for our anniversary again and got a balcony room. Unfortunately, the balcony was closed due to repair work being done and that was pretty disappointing. The internet was also not very good, and I had to use my phone's mobile hotspot to get connected most of the time. We still had a great trip, and we will be back because we love the resort, so hopefully next time those fixes have been completed.

Beautiful hotel and view from room stunning. Downside is the size of room specifically the bathroom very small for the cost of stay. No room to put out toiletries in there. There were also weddings which some were a little noisy going into the night. Overall enjoyed our stay.

Amazing hotel! We were able to stay in the banyan wing in a room overlooking the courtyard. Absolutely the way to go. Most convenient is the taxis waiting at the entrance, allowing older visitors to get around easily. Hope to come back and stay here again.

Moana Surfrider, Waikiki – Big disappointment!
We were shocked by our stay here. First off, no one warned us that the hotel is under construction. The balconies? Locked and unusable, with no way to get fresh air or dry swimwear. This is supposedly because one of their balconies collapsed in January. How is this place even allowed to operate?
The beds were awful—completely worn out. After just two nights, we both had neck pain. The rooms are also in serious need of an update. And good luck finding a spot by the pool or beach—everything’s always full.
To top it all off, they charge $65 for parking and another $50 daily resort fee. This place is just taking advantage of guests without delivering any real value. There are so many better options on Waikiki. Avoid this one!

Room was really old and outdated. Bad design, you want guests to hang clothes inside the bathroom? Basically inaccessible if bathroom is occupied.
Plumbing was weak and inconsistent. Bathroom was old and outdated. Too much space that was not utilized properly, no rest area except for the writing desk / chair and a single sofa chair. Holiday inn express has better rooms imo. It was dreadful to go back to our room.
Housekeeping only work if tipped. I tried a day without tip and a day with tip. The day without tip all the used napkins, candy wrappers and old coffee cups were all left at their original place. The day I left a tip everything was extra tidy, though nothing was wiped down still and the bed covers and sheets left on the chair was untouched
Is that the norm? I normally stay at the hilton grand village or Hyatt centric for business and never experienced this type of negligence. Why provide housekeeping if you only make the bed, restock water/ towels and remove trash. It's like a 10 minute per room cleaning max.
Is this type of unacceptable work ethics related to the ongoing protests? Well if this is the type of work that's being conducted, I don't see why anyone would give these ppl a raise.
Moana surfrider itself if beautiful and convenient for tourists in general, but the room that I stayed in (one of the towers) would prevent me from stepping in here again. Possible for dinner but not to stay overnight.
Not to mention valet is $70/night. Dont drive.

Have stayed at the Royal Hawaiian multiple times and thought to try another historical hotel. That was not a great decision. The hotel feels like it wants to be a 5 star hotel, but gives off a 99cent store vibe with how loud and crowded everything is. Also, somehow, valet made me feel bad every time I needed my care. Also, the wedding venue is below a bunch of rooms with music blasting until 10pm.

We LOVED the hotel and the concierge services were amazing. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed all of the amenities of the Westin Hotel.

The hotel is historic and the lobby is beautiful. The rooms are nice and the beds are comfortable. My complaint is the pool area is so small and rundown. There are not nearly enough chairs and umbrellas for the guests. We had to wake up at 6:30 to get a chair for the day. The beach did not disappoint but it’s very expensive to rent beach chairs so be prepared.

Loved everything about this place except location. It was so crowded it get like I was on the vegas strip. The beach was packed and not relaxing.

Booked room for a balcony, advised leas than 48 hours prior yo check in that all balconies are closed due to structural issues, had insurance but if cancelled they would have still charged $500 for under 48 hour cancellation, which they obviously did on purpose as they balcony issue apparently started 6 months ago, shady way of doing business, valet/parking is $65/day. One sink in bathroom. Overall not happy with entire experience. Staff/breakfast was the only good thing about this place.

We love this resort. It's our second time in Hawaii and our second time at the Moana Surfrider (loving our first stay there soo much) resort. One thing we think would improve our experience is if monitoring of actual use of the deck chairs by stafff was more active. We had to spend our time monitoring unused deck chairs and convincing staff to remove towels off the chairs so we could use them. Unfair holding of deck chairs is rather prolific at this resort. In other resorts we have stayed at (granted, they were in Fiji) the staff actively monitored deck chair use.

The customer service at the hotel were so great. They were very understanding of the situation when we arrived and made our stay as comfortable as they could. The location of the hotel was extremely central to the city centre with most thing within walking distance. Some tour buses did not pick us up outside the hotel, however, the tour pick up point was no more than a 5min walk away. As the hotel was in the centre of the city, it can be quite loud but this is manageable.

This was a great place to stay! Hotel was on the beach and close to everything.

Worst hotel experience of my life! Pictures online are deceiving. Very small room, no outlets in the bathroom and not one USB in the entire room! Old and dated. Loud! Street noise and loud music in the lobby that we could hear in our room on the 5th floor. Not everyone who stays in a hotel is on vacation. Some of us are traveling for work and need to sleep.

The room was smallish but gracious. Although the renovated balcony had not yet been inspected (so we couldn't use it while we were there) it had a balcony. Beds Very comfortable. And, except for a microwave, it had all the room accommodations that I like, even a bidet, which I hadn't used before and now I'm considering getting one at home.
Very, very pleased. The only drawback is that there wasn't free coffee, except what you could brew in your room.

Rooms clean, the breakfast buffet was delicious and they had tons of food to choose from. The staff super friendly always had a smile on their faces. Location was perfect just by the water. I will definitely stay there in the future. Recommend the Veranda tea time.

Initially, we were placed in the historic tower, but there were bugs and termites, so I requested a move to another tower. The new tower is nice, but unfortunately, on our second day, there was a hotel union strike, so there was no cleaning service or valet. We had to go to the front desk to get our own towels.

One of the worst hotel stays and experiences I have ever had while traveling. I stayed at this hotel before early last year and I am shocked at how its declined since in terms of their services, cleanliness, and customer service. Upon arrival at check in, we were offered a room upgrade for what we thought was an amazing deal; we were immediately billed the next day for an outrageous cost. At the end of our stay, we spoke with the front desk and were told that this cost was per night, not the total, however this was NEVER disclosed to us by the front desk initially. We disputed the charge and were told that we would be refunded, however it’s been a week and we still have not been refunded the charge upon our checkout from the hotel, so now I have to dispute the charge with my bank. Additionally, we happened to stay at the hotel when the Union workers were on strike. While we support union workers, there were certain accommodations that the hotel did not make. I could not find a new towel any where in the hotel for over two days, our rooms were not clean, our cars were not valeted. Our valet parking fee and resort fee were not adjusted despite these services not being completely being available. While I understand that certain conveniences may not be available, I find that not being able to find a towel for two days unacceptable. And to be charged at the end of the day as if all of our needs were met is unacceptable. I highly recommend you do not stay here or any Westin resorts

The Surfrider is in serious need of a facelift. The exterior is beautiful. The rooms are tired, dirty and require a lot of maintenance and attention. The bathroom was appalling-rusty bathtub, grout in floor - filthy. I wore my flip flops in the shower. Pool are is nice but small. Lounge chairs are gone before the pool even opens at 7a.m. Umbrellas and chairs are few and far between- a hundred dollars if you are able to actually reserve one. Balconies are closed due to a crumbling facade- making the pool area even more congested than normal. Parking is $65.00 a night, and you pay a resort fee of 45 dollars- not sure what for. This is not a resort. Beach chairs are $25 - free across at the Hyatt.
Do your self a favour and stay elsewhere! I am not going back. The First Lady of Honolulu is dead- Marriott sucked all of the charm out of her! Oh and this was a “better” room- we were moved after complaining about our first room!
