Beaides the hassle of street parking, it was a lovely stay. I would definitely stay again!

They didn’t have parking available for a SUV with a Thule rack. We had to park in Municipal parking blocks away with homelessness on the streets.

Friendly staff!

Wonderful historic hotel with updated rooms. Traveled for business. Staff at check in were wonderful and thorough in describing the amenities of the hotel, where to find things, how to connect if I needed anything, etc. Tons of eateries and shops around the hotel as well!

This was our second stay at this property in 7 days. This room was not quite as clean and the hallway needed to be vacuumed.
The shower in this renovated bathroom is fabulous! The beds and pillows are very comfortable! The common areas are lovely in this historic hotel. Every single staff person-the front desk staff, the valet/doormen-were exceptional. I highly recommend this hotel!
1.0
Bathroom was so small that only one person fit in there…if that. It also felt as if your knees were hitting the sink. The water in the shower didn’t work. Bed was hard as a rock. Definitely completely different to the room we stayed here a few weeks ago. Either pay the $$ for junior suite or avoid.

The hotel was nice and the Irish pub downstairs was lovely. The room was small but clean. My only real complaint was the parking. There was no parking nearby so valet parking was required. The only other time that valet was my only choice was in Chicago which I expected. There wasn’t even anywhere to stop for the valet and my husband had to drive around until a spot opened up for him to park for the valet. Also the valet took a long time. They didn’t have enough people working. If the service had been good I would have accepted it but we called ahead and still need to wait 20 minutes after we got downstairs to get our car.

We received additional, undisclosed charges after checking out. The price was high already and they shouldn’t be able to add a “marketing fee” without telling us when the room was prepaid.

We had some issues with valet parking but the hotel took care of it swiftly. They really need to either deep clean or replace the carpets in the rooms. Otherwise, it was great and we plan to stay there again next time.

Comfortable and nice hotel. Great amenities. No designated hotel parking and it was either pay for street parking or valet
2.5
Beautiful old historic hotel. Wonderful downtown location near great shops and restaurants!

I spent 4 nights in the Alex Johnson while attending a High School Reunion. The hotel is in the process of remodeling so some of the walls and amenities were sub-par. The room and bed were comfortable. Service was very good.
2.0
I had a good experience at the hotel. In the heart of downtown within walking distance from restaurants and stores.
2.5
Perfect for a quick family getaway. Loved watching the sunset on the rooftop bar. Located in the heart of downtown and walking distance to shopping and dining. The only complaint would be the elevators are a bit small and slow. We will definitely be back.

The service and room was great other than the pull out coach my son was to sleep on was broke. All other rooms where taken so he ended up getting several comforters and having to make a bed out of them.
3.0
Older property which in general was clean, but didn't look clean when entering
4.0
Dated property and amenities. Good location downtown and near shopping and dining, which is why it’s overpriced. Probably worth it though.

The room was clean and very comfortable. Loved the dark window drapes. The hotel is close to all the presidential statues and tons of restaurants nearby. The valet staff was great but staff at check in and check out could use more customer service training.

Great old hotel with interesting back story unlike most bland corporate boxes. Beds could do with mattress upgrades though

Enjoyed my stay at the Alex Johnson in Rapid City. Great welcome on arrival. In a great spot new at breweries and restaurants plus it has its own roof top bar with an awesome 360 view of RC.

The experience is great. It is a historic hotel, and it is very beautiful and stylish. It located in the downtown Rapid City,so it is close to bars and galleries. In general, the service is good. The front desk staff and valet parking staff are friendly and helpful. I went to the rooftop bar,the food and service are both very good. I also went to the paddy oneill‘s bar,but it is very disappointing. The food is ok but the service is terrible. The only complaint is the room condition. It is not maintained very well. The crack between the door and the floor is so big,and I can see the light from outside. I stayed in several other historic hotels that are operated by Omni or Marriott. Their room conditions are much better than this hotel.

Clean rooms, walking distance to many places for shopping and dinner.

Historic, interesting, large Starbucks, remodeled bathroom with excellent shower, large comfy bed, lots of dining options close by, front desk staff hit and miss - some excellent and accommodating - other rude and offensive, housekeeping excellent, large towels, quiet ac, elevators a bit quirky old.

The Hotel couldn't find my Reservation ( But claimed it wasn't their fault but Expedia's ). Just so you know some of the rooms are very small but the location is Excellent to everything Downtown. the restaurant up stairs is Very good! The Breakfast is UGH! Cold because they have to bring everything down from the Upstairs Kitchen!

$29 for each day of valet parking. No other option

Really cool hotel. Loved it!

Good location. Some guest were complaining about the way the reservation desk clerks were dressed.

I do not recommend this property. We had a terrible experience. The hotel is filthy, the doors do not easily open and we were evacuated due to a fire alarm.

Cynthia was awesome!

Nice to walk to restaurants downtown. While the hotel is historically older, the carpet in our room was nasty dirty and the bathroom was grungy. Parking is a hassle unless you want to pay the valet $30 a night. You can park on the street in the evening but have to move car by 7:00 am in order to not get a ticket. The parking garage is rather far from hotel entrance and also is costly per night.

I really hate to give a historic hotel anything less than 5 stars, but they need more attention to the smaller things. The sidewalk bar seating area should be removed. It makes a fine hotel look bad and gives it a poor first impression. We had a suite and it was very nice. A single room, like they are in all older hotels, will be rather cramped. Our sitting room tv was not “set up” and the remote needed batteries. It takes time to remedy such issues, and did. You can park yourself street side and save on parking and valet. The hotel could use a renovation.

Reception and valet staff were excellent. Bar staff at roof top bar were terrible.

Classic gem in the heart of Rapid City.

Just beautiful in every corner. Carvings, restaurants, and so central. Loved that Starbucks and the chocolate store were downstairs. And rooftop bar was lovely. Felt like stepping back in time. Service was great at front desk, though I did have to wait as they were busy the week we went.

The place is awesome. A lot of history.

Lovely hotel, full of history and comfort. We were there for our 50th anniversary, and it seemed like all of the staff we met wanted to celebrate with us.
The view of the city was lovely. The food in the restaurant was delicious. The bar on the roof was wonderful. The service was top-notch. The room was clean and comfortable.
We loved our stay here.
