The location and view was excellent but the property itself is very run down. Dirty/stained towels and linen were provided. The plumbing in the bathroom is very outdated. First night there we had no hot water. Called maintenance and they sent someone over. We were told that we needed to leave the water running for 20 min to get hot water. Ran for 30 min and got luke warm water to take shower with. Second night toilet kept running and making noise.
Limited food options and dirty plates at the buffet. Extremely long lines at the bar. Wait time to get drinks can exceed 15 minutes at the two bars. They tell you there are restaurants on property which are included with all inclusive but when you get to the hotel there are all kinds of restrictions and its impossible to make a reservation unless you are staying for more 7 days or more. Even though you pay the hotel directly they refuse to offer any compensation. Find a different property to stay in if you do not wish to have your vacation ruined.

I loved my stay here the staff were really lovely and friendly. My 6 Year old son thinks the Luigi Resturant should be called Mario’s :)

Worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at— they charge you 8 Euros to call the front desk.
Lack of properly functioning elevators is a safety hazard.
At least 1-2 isn’t working at a time and people had to wait for a while.
Facilities generally feel outdated with no upkeep, and food is terrible (also not included , despite the hotel advertising in the all inclusive deal it wasn’t available on Expedia).
I would not be surprised if this building failed several inspections.
Staff was incredibly nice all things considered and location is close to tennis courts and beach.
Otherwise, stay somewhere else until they renovate.

I was happy with my room and space also food was very good! But it took 3 day of asking for them to come and fix my shower and also the to didn’t work!

Good place! Slightly outdated but pretty good and clean! Elevators take forever is pretty much my only complaint! Good service

This hotel was great. I had a great view of the beach

The room was very noisy. Every day at 6am a loud and noisy engine woke me up. I could not sleep during my holiday as much as I want.

This hotel has some great features. Rooms are carpeted so moving chairs doesn't wake everyone up. The restaurant has lots of very good food and if you are intolerant to gluten or milk, staff will provide an alternative. If on an anniversary. Bucks fizz, beer and wine available at breakfast. Tea and coffee 24 hours a day.
The really bad bit. The main toilets are by the restaurant and to be blunt Stink. There are no proper adequate extract systems in place and the waste plumbing leaks.
The second less important fault is all pool sunbeds are curved, you can't lie face down. However, there is a fantastic beach four hundred yards away.
I'll be coming back, out of season. Great hotel for the most part

Although the resort was outdated, it was comfortable. We appreciated the all-inclusive meals for the teenagers.

food and staff great , Room dated sewage smell did change room eventually, Sea view only achieved due to height of building maybe should have been mentioned at booking.

Stayed for a week mid October, so not too busy at the hotel , the room was large ,clean and with great views of the sea and over Alvor . Bathroom was clean ,restocked regularly and the shower was powerful ,and hot . The hotel restaurant and bar area were well presented, the food and drink varied and plentiful . The pool was beautiful , a little fresh but not too cold . plenty of sun beds around the pool and ample gardens to spread out . We stayed on the 14th floor but the lifts worked well . Reception was helpful with information taxi info and bus timetable, for trips further away . I would definitely come back , everything worked as it should , free WiFi available in all areas , tvs great size and channel choices. Fridge and free safe in rooms .

Staff was friendly, cheerful, helpful, great service. Hotel location is right near an amazing beach and great boardwalk to walk on. Surrounding towns were nearby. We did not rent a car, had no need. We either walked to town or took a taxi. Food choices for the buffet were varied daily, always something great to eat. There was fish and chicken choices daily, as well as fruit, and great desserts.

Few minutes walk from a beach nestled in between rock formations on the left towards the end of the beach there is a small restaurant called Canico that offers beautiful views from the beach

Despite some good points : a lot of deck chairs, good gym and cleaning services, the overall impression remained bad because of the restaurant room (too noisy, really unbearable) and the food and drinks which were average. The activities can also be improved.

This is our second visit. Lovely 15min walk along the beach broadwalk to Alvor. Best location for stunning hidden beaches amongst the rocky coves. Hotel staff friendly especially the bar staff. Great variety of food. Gained a notch on my belt!Red wine not good though. Only fault is the hotel is quite dated could do with modification.

Two minute walk to the beach which is superb and very beautiful. Pool great, hotel very clean. Food choices excellent, something for everyone and not just chips for children!!!!Family friendly, lovely area, go out and about, cheap for taxi or free shuttle bus, beautiful country.

Hotel Delfim is well situated for the beach and within 20mins walking distance of Alvor. Staff are friendly and efficient and Hotel meals were adequate. Some Bar staff were a little crazy but they kept the drinks flowing. On the downside the Hotel really needs a complete refurbishment, as the interior and rooms definitely look dated. Room and pool towels were close to threadbare and surely need replacing soon. Perhaps the Pestana Group could invest a little money in this hotel - it appears to have been ignored over recent years.

This was exactly what i expected from the reviews of others but i was hoping that there has been some improvements but I think the hotel is happy to gather for a specific group of people and won't change. The building is clean but dated, multiple parts have out of order signs on and it has definitely gone past its pride. On the plus side you are close to a lovely beach, 15 minute walk to Alvor harbour and about 15 min drive from the Alto golf course. So who is the hotel catering for- if you are a plane Jane love drinking free booze al day , then have a selection of fairly bland food, simple entertainment and play a few rounds of golf this is the place for you. It will also suite a family who just want to let the kids run wild and drink as much fizzy drinks and food as possible it will work. There are quite a few selections of food but is doesn't represent Portugal at all. Food is bland and by day 2 you realise that even if things look different they still taste the same. But it is a no hassle break so doesn't need to make many decisions and we will go back to the area but the hotel doesn't do anything to encourage you to return as everything is so average that it makes you think may be going somewhere else will be better the next time.

The hotel has a lovely large swimming pool, along with a smaller one for kids. There never seemed to be any difficulty acquiring a sun bed, despite being fully booked throughout my stay. The close location to the beach is also ideal, with a direct pathway leading from the hotel grounds. The general decor and furniture is looking a bit tired now, and in need of a refresh. The rooms have a wonderful big balcony, with most facing the sea. These are very dated though and require some serious modernisation, in order to retain a 4 star standard. The variety of food was always very good, offering at least 5 or 6 different meat and fish dishes. The self-service bar in the middle of the pool was great; or simply asking a member of staff for drink was fairly straight forward. The all inclusive package worked out very well, especially when kids are involved. It also makes life easy having set time frames when to go to the restaurant and everything is just spread out for you! :-). The kids club kept the little one busy, while the evening entertainment kept things quite lively. There is a games room that offered a bit of fun, along with a couple of pool tables (albeit with balls missing!).

Fabulous location - food hit n miss but always something edible, food and drink always available if you wanted it. The drinks however were not brilliant and I was led to believe that you could pay extra for premium brands. This was the main let down, along with the family room being just a normal room with a sofa bed and nothing more. Fine for the week, but would recommend a suite upgrade if available when you go.
There were large groups of golfers and those from Scotland were particularly partaking of a s much all inclusive as they could, resulting in the discovery of vomit in a corridor and lift on one occasion! This was not the case for the other groups - seems the Scots let the UK down on this front, as did an older Scottish couple that were just crude and offensive.
That said, it was very good value, all the staff were really charming and very helpful The rooms were clean and comfy, the outside pool lovely (indoor pool a big let down). The bonus however was that you could for a small fee of just 10 euro per adult (kids free) upgrade your evening meal to the next door 5* Pestana Alvor where all drinks are premium as part of the price and the food superb.
One of the best beaches in the region with some fantastic places locally to visit and beach restaurants to dine in. B&B would be preferred if I were to return. The other guests let the hotel down for the other guests.

We were at Pestana Delfim hotel in July 2010 with my wife and a 6-years old boy.
The hotel personnel was nice, beautiful pool, incl. pool inside and a small gym with Finnish sauna as well! Despite of all the hotel facilities don´t miss the beach near by. When arriving the beach from the hotel path, walk left. There are just amazing small beaches behind the rocks!
Alvor turned out to be a nice little fishing village, we were glad to have chosen this option! Recommend!

The Hotel itself, staff, food, pool area etc were all great. I could have done with a small fridge in the bedroom particularly for overnight thirst.

I've been to the Delfim many times and love it. I just look for a comfortable, relaxing space, a good breakfast, minimal entertainment and some atention when I ask for it (I don't do lively!). The Delfim offers just that - with a terrific quiet beach thrown in. Sea view rooms offer lovely sunsets. I was concerned by reviewers saying it was 'tired.' I need not have worried. The rooms and public spaces were all fine and while a 'freshen up' will be good, the hotel is still very spacious and comfortable. The week we were there the hotel did have an air of winding-down about it which was a little strange until we discovered that it was about to close for winter in order to carry out some re-furbishments. No one could tell us what these were other than new lifts, but that wouldn't take five months! Any improvements will simply upgrade what is already a very good hotel. I will certainly return again. To be fair to families though, it's not really a place for kids, there's not much for them to do so a car is necessary to get out to other attractions.

Excellent service, good breakfast, clean and spacious room. Choice of areas to sunbathe, etc - by the pool, quiet grass area alongside or nearby beach. The only downside is that the hotel pool is very, very cold - so much so that hardly anyone swam in it which could be a plus if you don't mind risking hypothermia when you swim. Hotel has good location approx 15 mins walk (or euro 4 taxi) to Alvor village centre/harbour area where there are lots of lovely restaurants. Beach is next door, short walk down a steep hill.
3.0 / 5.0
The waiters at "à la carte" meals were not properly trained to help at table, the food choice and vatiety was poor and the quality far from outstanding. The swiming pool is excellent.

A little disappointed. Took my 2 grandchildren, 13 years and 7 years. The room was not very big had one double bed and 2 Z-beds (put-u-up). The bathroom was very clean and looked as if it had been recently renovated. Only problem was that there was an awful smell coming from, what looked like, a grille coverd hole. To be fair I complained and it was dealt with very quickly. And no more smells! The both swimming pools (indoor and outdoor)are not as clean as I would expect from a 4 star hotel. Most of the staff are very friendly and speak very good English. Alvor is OK but there are so many Irish bars! WHY? The best part of Alvor is down by the harbour; although there is sometimes sewage going into the sea. And the smell is AWFUL! I don't know how anyone can eat in any of the restaurants that are close by! But they do!

We stayed at this hotel in June 08 and were a little disappointed. The hotel has an excellent location virtually on the beach and is not really that far from Alvor (5 minutes in taxi) but the hotel is extremely dated and tired. The restaurant lacked any kind of imagination with bland food on offer most of the time, the furniture in the rooms was old and we had a big patch of flaking plaster in our main room. The bathrooms have been re-vamped recently and were good. The pool area is nice apart from a lot of loose gravel around the pool edge, which is not that good for children. We travelled with a one year old and the hotel were unable to adequately re-heat baby food as the only microwave was broken. I can see that in it's day this would have been a good hotel worthy of it's 4 stars, sadly it now needs some TLC. I would definatley not recommend it to anyone travelling with children under 18 months old.

The hotel was clean and fairly well situated within walking distance of the pretty fishing village of Alvor. The nearby beach was magnificent - not crowded, with a long stretch of fine clean sand. Plenty of restaurants and cafes. We just used the hotel as a base as it was very quiet. There was no music or holiday atmosphere in the hotel, by the pool or in the gym - everywhere was silent! The pool was freezing so only two or three people in it. The food at lunchtime was nice, but extremely expensive for the evening buffet so we didn't try that. I was surprised and disappointed that there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room.
5.0 / 5.0
We had heard that the hotel needed some upgrading which I agree with, though we had no complaints whatsoever. The food was very good, though I thought the drinks including tea/coffee were expensive. The weather wasn't great (not the hotel's fault) and the indoor facilities were very good. All the staff spoke very good English and were extemely helpful & polite. I would have liked to see tea/coffee facilities in the room, though English TV channels were welcome (in view of the weather)
2.0 / 5.0
This hotel is billed as a 4 star hotel, and maybe it was once - in the 1970's! This hotel is really dated and do not expect the basic facilities you'd typically get from a 4* hotel, e.g. an iron, tea & coffee in your room. According to Ricardo on reception they used to have iron's, but have now stopped doing this. Ricardo spent most of his time agreeing with how poor the service was and did not offer any ideas to help. We had to suggest their 5* sister hotel next door may have the necessary facilities. Still this took over an hour to sort out. The hotel seems to share a lot of facilities, such as its tennis courts and golf course with the next door 5* hotel, so maybe this is how it justifies its 4* rating. However, if all you want is good quality basic services, you will be very disappointed with this hotel. PS the lifts are really noisy!

This was my second visit in six months and just as good as the first time.
I will certainly be visiting again and would recommend this hotel to anyone.
4.0 / 5.0
The hotel is well positioned for the excellent beach which is a few minutes walk away. Very good rooms and well serviced.. The breakfasts are varied and excellent . Some reception staff are a bit indifferent to guests. Very good sporting and outside activities. About 20 minutes walk to the centre of Alvor, which is a very pleasent small town.
5.0 / 5.0
If you want a quiet holiday out of season with lovely coastal scenery this is a really good place to stay. Food in the hotel dining room tends to lack authenticity and is a bit pricey, but there are plenty of good, inexpensive restaurants in the area including the local beach cafes.
2.0 / 5.0
My partner, our daughter and myself stayed at this hotel for the October half term 2007. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were impressed with the hotel, the staff were friendly and food very good. Although we had only booked for bed and breakfast we did have evening meals at the hotel occasionally and couldn't find fault with the choice. Although no tera or coffee facilities were available the rooms were clean and comfortable. The only 'complaint' we could think of was that the swimming pool was rather cold and the swim up bar was closed but it was the end of the season so benefit of the doubt there! We would certainly stay there again.
