plenty of parking available, overall great value, just didn't care for the room decor (red and black)

Meliá ría was great! Location and property are really good . Breakfast as well. The only odd thing is that they charge you for the pool use, that having kids it’s a must. This wasn’t clear when booking

Staff is wonderful, unfortunately we had some issues with power loss leaving us without power and air conditioning when it was needed.

Melia Ria has a perfect location, just a few minutes walk from the main attractions in this small town.
The hotel is an excellent option when you are doing a road trip through Portugal, we were doing Porto to Lisbon and chose this stop to enjoy this small but charming town and also Costa Nova, pretty close to there. The facility is good, it has a good restaurant and
the staff was very friendly and helpful. The parking of the hotel is very small and annoying, but there are options for free in the neighborhood, honestly, trying to use the underground parking that they will charge daily was a waste of time.

This seems most like a conference hotel. Perfectly nice, nice breakfast, nice spa and workout room, where we had very nice massages, nice staff. While the canal ends at the hotel, it is not very scenic. If we hadn't needed a king bed, an elevator and a/c, we would have looked for something more traditional near the original canals. Also, we made the mistake of thinking a canal boat ride would take us past the striped boat houses, but it doesn't. (Poor research on our part.) They are in Costa Nova. No real reason to visit Aveiro unless you can do a day trip to Costa Nova.

Great hotel, and thank you for an early check in. Easy to walk into town from here.

This is a wonderful hotel directly on the canal. The staff is amazing. Couples massage was wonderful. We were treated like royalty after a bad experience in Porto in the Portus Cale Hotel. Highly recommend this hotel, it was exceptional!

Great location for interacting with the city, birdwatching at the salt fields, and collaborating with the university. The rooms are hot at night Note that the windows open to let in cool air.

The location, breakfast, and staffs.. they were all pleasant. Just the room, it was old than expected from the hotel building appearance.

This property is outstanding ! The location is perfect and the service is impeccable. All the staff is super friendly, the room was great and the breakfast delicious and plenty.
I highly recommended this hotel.

The location was great, very walkable to shops and restaurants. We appreciate the covered parking which was very secure. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable and extra pillows were available. There was plenty of closet and storage space. We appreciated having coffee/tea available in the room with the kettle. The bathroom was clean with a very nice shower and good size countertop for storing toiletries.
One of the best things was the restaurant and bar in the hotel. We enjoyed a light meal at the bar the night of our arrival; friendly service and excellent food. The breakfast buffet was terrific, great food quality and selection. The full english breakfast was a special treat that we don't get to enjoy very often. Food items were fresh, replenished regularly and staff kept tables clean between guests.
Staff members were friendly, polite and helpful.

Good and nice hotel. the breakfast is good, but all the dishes that should be hot are absolutely cold.

The charging ports don’t work and when called they did nothing about it.

Because we were a big group, we had access to sauna, massages, and turkish bath. We loved it

Location, staff, and property conditions were excellent. My only complaint is that expectations should be set when booking. Great pics of the pool were shown, but they don't tell you the pool must be reserved for you to use it. We were a large party and found it disappointing. Second, let us know water is only free in the room the first day. If I would have known, I would purchase water for the room. We woke up in the middle of the night extremely thirsty, with no water.

Nice hotel but here are the quirks:
1. Has a pool but it is considered part of a spa package and has to be rented by the hour. This should be clearly advertised on Expedia.

Hotel is very comfortable, clean and close to city center. Great breakfast and the concierge are nice and very helpful with everything.

Easy excess to everything, great place.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Melia. The only thing I would suggest is to advertise that the access to the pool isn’t free (12€/pers).

Everything was good, but I had to pay for using the gym and swimming pool. This was not mentioned at the time of booking and I was assuming that you should be able to use the gym, like any other hotel.

Our stay was very short but the whole family will remember it for a long time. Great location, comfortable, warm, cozy place to stay during winter and friendly staff. The room was clean, with a tasty breakfast buffet, and we had a room-service dinner. It was good and they gave us freebies, the 'Portuguese Ovos Moles pastries'-'Aveiro soft eggs' for dessert.

Melia always impresses. Stayed in the one in Aveiro and now the one in Braga. Both beautiful. Food was also the best we’ve ever had in a hotel. Melia is my go to now in Portugal.

Stay was good, room comfortable for 3 and good breakfast choice. Conveniently located with short walk to centre but annoying that the pool charges were €32 for a family swim. Don’t need the spa benefits but paid swimming is excessive.

The room was comfortable and while the hotel is not in the Center of the main attractions, it is a fairly short walk, about 10 min.

Did what it said on the tin, was clean and tidy without being knock out. You need flip flops and a swimming hat to use the pool, which we didn’t have which was a shame (hats you can but there).

The smell of the bathroom is horrible and we feel in old hotel. Time of restaurant isn’t friendly.

Location is close to the shopping center and Old town with numerous restaurants etc. It is more a hotel for a conference or business stays rather then us travelers as couple on exploration trip.
I was not very impressed by the paid Spa and pool area. I have never experienced it before and i am a well traveled person. We came to the pool area to check out if it was worth paying 10EUR each for 1 hour in the pool. The decision was definitely No. Nothing special or worth the money. We stayed in hotels in Braga and Coimbra on the same trip, and their lovely pools were included in the price.
Other thing i was not impressed is the levels of noise. You might need a good earplugs. Granted it is not a hotels fault, that weekend was some sort of Military exhibition event just across the canal and they kept playing same song/tune on the loop all days. Very load, it continued after 10 pm at which point i rang the reception to ask how long the venue and noise will continue. The person who answered my call just simply answered she cant hear anything and she doesn't know. Poor customer service experience.
Parking in garage again is extra. All in all it just felt they are going to squeeze as much money from you as they can.
Breakfast was very similar to other hotels in Portugal so presume its pretty usual breakfast they serve. I terribly missed more vegetables, pickles, smoked fish but thats my personal taste.
