This hotel is owned and operated by a local real estate company. It's questionable whether the staff members are properly trained. Service feels like at a Sheraton in a second tier city in China. Breakfast was horrible, and didn't change at all for the entire 6 nights of stay we were there, except some items were removed from the buffet on Sat and Sun because the cook takes weekend leave.
Hardware is showing wear and tears more than its 7 years of age would warrant. For example, none of the door bells in any one of the rooms is not rubbed off and showing the light coming from behind the button. One of our rooms had horrible air circulation and smelled like mold every time you walk in.
Service at the buffet is slow to clean the tables. Feels like dining at a canteen with tables piled with garbage around you. Staff do not greet guests, and would fight with guest over access to a narrow pathway in the restaurant.
Pointed out to the doorman that the front of the hotel rug is crumbled and could cause elderly to trip if not straightened. Came back to the hotel hours late and the crumble is still there. Very heartless.
Butler service never takes less than 30 mins for a pot of tea.
Frequent sight of cleaning staff wearing blue shower cap wondering around the hotel hallway - a scene you would never see at Four Seasons.
Location is excellent, however.

It a very nice hotel. I had no time to explore.

Nice, clean rooms. Tons of renovations right now so loud and noisy. Air conditioning was HORRIBLE. Switched to different rooms… could never get AC to go below 24C which was unbearably hot and uncomfortable.

Very nice hotel in great location

Oh yes. They offer you a 'promotion' for lounge access which includes transportation within 3 kms. When you do need that option they tell you you needed to give them 24 hours prior notice (and this is after checking you in for a one night stay...)
I would rather go to another property next time. The club lounge was empty and felt desolate to be honest. There was a bar and when we asked for some drinks they needed to fetch someone to prepare some basic drinks which did take a while. I'm not sure they were really prepare to handle international visitors to be honest (or people to consume at their bar for that matter...)
Do try and avoid the club lounge access; it is irreparably expensive and not really worth the cost.

The worst 5 Star hotel in Asia and probably ly one of the worst globally. The hotel management lacks complete awareness of customer service standards. The staff is completely ignorant and unreliable in their attitude to service.
4.7
Upon checking in at the hotel, I unfortunately encountered an error made by the staff. While the situation was eventually resolved and clarified, I faced difficulties when picking up my invoice at the front desk. The male staff member gave me a hard time regarding the previously quoted price and questioned why they should not charge me more. This experience was highly unpleasant and unexpected from a reputed five-star establishment.

Nice staff and the Hotel management gave me compensation after found they have mistake made

Excellent stay. Will definitely come back again.

I like the glass artist Chihuly’s art works. The hotel is quiet, lighting design is perfect, bedding is super comfortable…… I will say this is the best in Shanghai that I have experienced.

The scale in the bathroom and the gym do not work
The breakfast is not very impressive though all the chefs are very good and food very neat and well done. Missing the Shanghainese dumpling and bun or Chinese pancakes but I understand it’s hard to do but sometimes when breakfast is memorable guest come back to stay for the breakfast

I have been staying at the hotel many times when I am in Shanghai. It is in the city center and convenient. It was relatively newer hotel few years ago. However the service was not good to a five star St. Regis standard. No room was available when I was there at 1. Front desk said they will inform me when the room was ready. I waited 1 hour plus but no message. I have to check with the front desk again and they found a ready room for me. That was 15 pass 2 so passed hotel checkin time. No welcome or thank you said when checkin and out. Room temperature was not right and electronic window shade had a loud squeaking sound.

Overall I agree with the 9.4 average rating. Nice place. Some of the new hires can use more trainings. The coffee shop food service is only average. Concierge did an excellent job. I give Francis a 5 star

Seamless service with a good view. Hotel starts getting weary as there seems no major refurbishment since the covid outbreak in china (like others to be fair) but it offers still a very classic and seamless service throughout the stay. Always a pleasure coming back!

Just a quick weekend getaway after COVID travel restrictions were lifted. Stuart-Wayne, the manager, and his team took great care of us! Professional and warm is an important combination in hospitality, and the St Regis does this very well!

Very comfortable room and well situated on a quieter but central road. Rooms are very stuffy in winter.

The rooms are large and comfortable.
The downside is that the hotel is old and it is felt on everything.
The breakfast is really not to the standard and needs urgently a review and refresh.
