Wonderful building in one of the best neighbourhoods of Montevideo, although the rooms are very old and basic with carpet and walls full of stains. The breakfast is very basic for this category, for the level we expected it was disappointing.

I was expecting much better service then I received and my room was very small and not very comfortable

The hotel is fantastic !!! The area is very beatiful and overall people very nice and helpful. the restaurant and bar have great food and drinks. The hotel architecture very classic and well mantained … The Carrasco area around the hotel has plenty of good restaurantes and shpping stores.
Sebastian at the porter always nice and friendly.

Beautiful hotel. One of my favourite.
Historic building that has been very tastefully restored. Rooms are modern and comfortable. Great breakfast.
In Carrasco, which is very safe and infinitely preferable to the city centre (Montevideo is a small city, so getting downtown is super easy). I will definitely go back.

Great property, but poorly managed and dilapidated. It is not not up to the normal fine standards of the Sofitel brand.

The property is in a great area with lots of dining options. The exterior of the building is stunning. Our room was in need of some updating. The carpeting needed updating and the patch work done to the ceiling was visible. Additionally on our second night the television and several electrical outlets were not working. The initial person who checked us in was not so welcoming. When I asked for a.room with a water view she told me that all of the rooms in the hotel were taken but I had a great city view. Which was untrue, the view was of a mechanical unit. After unpacking we came down and she then asked if we wanted to change rooms the following day, not after unpacking for a 2 night stay. Later we went to reception for recommendations for things to do and places to eat and were given a restaurant which was closed in Monday’s and a museum which was also closed. Needless to say after ubering to both locations it was not only disappointing but a waste of time. On a positive note.. you can’t beat the location and the property has many amenities.. sadly our room was not up to Sofitel standards.

I can’t say enough about the level of service and quality provided by this hotel. The place is spectacularly beautiful and the rooms are spacious. The on site restaurant is excellent as are the restaurants in the immediate neighborhood. In addition, the place is across the street from the beach. Finally, the price is extremely competitive. I’ll be back.

Dear Manager,
I hope this letter finds you well. I recently had the pleasure of staying at your esteemed establishment, the Sofitel Hotel in Montevideo. While I appreciated many aspects of my stay, there were a few areas that fell short of expectations for a five-star hotel experience.
Firstly, upon arrival, I encountered issues with the room amenities. The air conditioning unit emitted a disruptive noise throughout the night, which affected my ability to rest comfortably. Although the other concerns, such as the malfunctioning fridge and warm water, were promptly addressed, albeit in an unusual Way by locking me out of the cabinet where the fridge was and where teacups so I could not make tea.. the noise from the air conditioning persisted.
Additionally, the service experience was not as seamless as I had anticipated. On multiple occasions, I encountered difficulties with the key cards for the lift, which required replacement. While these issues were minor, they detracted from the overall guest experience.
Furthermore, I observed instances where the approachability and problem-solving skills of the staff could be improved. Instead of embracing a can-do attitude and finding solutions to challenges, there seemed to be a default response of "that's not possible." And "I will check "For instance, when seeking assistance from the front desk and reception, although very polite and courteous, I encountered delays and ultimately had to resolve matters independently.

Great hotel right in front of the beach. The staff are amazing. The room we got had a view of the beach and was big with bathroom separate from the shower. We dined at their restaurant for dinner where every recommendation for appetizers, entree and dessert was better than the next. I would definitely stay here again.

The Sofitel was terrific. Recommend staying here. Classic traditional hotel with great service. It's located in a beautiful neighborhood at one end of montevideo. Restaurants and shopping just behind the hotel.

I booked a room at the Sofitel with one Queen size bed to enjoy during the day and let the children sleep at night for a few hours while my wife and I spent time at the hotel’s casino until our 3am departure time to catch our flight to the US. Our goal was to not sleep at night in Montevideo and sleep instead during our entire 13 hour flight combo to Los Angeles, CA to avoid jetlag.
Upon our arrival, the hotel management insisted that we purchase a second room because per their policy, two adults and two children could not stay in one room no matter the circumstances. It should not be up to hotel management to decide how I want to spend the night with my family.
I have never experienced such strictness and rude attitude anywhere I have travelled. Even though I am fluent in Spanish, it is not my primary language. I still did my best to explain the reason why I chose to book one room instead of two, to no avail.
We were given a separate room, not connected to ours, for our two daughters. My daughters' room had a connecting room not belonging to us, and even though I asked for that door to be locked, it didn't happen. We had to place our luggage in front of the door to avoid an unwanted intrusion.
We arrived at the hotel around 11am. There was not a single restaurant that offered any kind of food at that time of day. Our only available option was to order food to our room. Overall, a horrible experience that shattered my opinion on the Sofitel brand.

Absolutely loved the bedding.

Beautiful and graceful hotel. A national landmark. We were upgraded to a suite. The lobby was restored to its original condition with skylights and crown molding.
The hotel is in Carrasco which is the best neighborhood in Montevideo. You can walk out the door and be on the Rambla or turn up the street for restaurants and shopping.
The hotel has a spa, workout room, small indoor/outdoor pools, and a dry sauna.
There is a lounge and restaurant.
Our room was a corner suite with views of the water. It was large and very comfortable.
We got a good deal with Expedia, about $70 less than the Accor rate.
Staff were friendly and spoke good English.

The Sofitel is a classy beautifully renovated top hotel. It is located away from the city in the lovely Carrasco neighbourhood. It boasts a first class restaurant worthy of its setting.

This is a truly beautiful property in a hip and trendy area with lots of services, food, shopping, and a great tennis club within walking distance. The staff are friendly, very responsive, did not look annoyed when I used my terrible Spanish, and the service was top notch. Nice gym with a wide variety of spa services. Did not use onsite dining but the menu looked very good. It's 15-20 minute Uber from downtown Montevideo.

Wonderful place in a lovely, walkable part of Montevideo. Definitely a special hotel, with a terrific restaurant (1921).

This was a gorgeous neoclassic building, very beautiful decor. Staff was very helpful. Only negative thing was I felt the heat was too high, eventually it was a manner of turning it off. Also, it was hard to find the light switches (especially in the bathroom. The shower was great! Probably I would stay here again

I expected more from Sofitel. The room service is very poor and very slow delivery. The Consierge made restaurant reservations I requested but never contacted me to confirm. I basically had to be on top and call many times to get jobs done. Stressing, not relaxing at all…
