I paid for my stay (£415 for one night) *in advance* but at 2:15am during the night of my stay my banking app woke me with an alert to say the hotel had charged me £306.50. I barely slept until 6:45am when I went to question it at reception. I was told that the hotel ran an audit process during the night and that had somehow triggered the charge. I was assured that it would be cancelled. Then, at around 11:30am I got another alert on my banking app telling me they had taken a further £356.50. I was on a course at the British Library and had to leave at lunchtime (when I wanted to be speaking to the other delegates) to go back to the hotel to alert them to the fact I now had over SEVEN HUNDRED pounds pending on my back account (including the initial card deposit of £50). I felt that the staff offered no sympathy or contrition. It's now 11:40am on the following day and I still have over £700 pending in my bank account. I'm really worried because I can't afford that to leave my account.
It completely ruined my stay and impacted on my ability to enjoy and concentrate during the course I was attending.

Wow! Gorgeous accommodations at the most convenient location!

We only had one night in London before catching the train to Rotterdam and The Great Northern was a wonderful hotel in the perfect location. The room was spacious, comfortable, and quiet. Our only complaint was the bath/shower - you stand in a tub with no curtain or door and use a handheld. It’s looks very chic, but not practical. The Coal Yard, which is a short walk, is a trendy new area with great shops and restaurants.
4.3
Excellent Hotel if onward travel by train as could not be handier for Eurostar or Kings Cross. We have used a number of times.
4.3
There was no tea making facility in the bedroom.i had to walk to the antry area.Meant I could not enjoy morning tea in bed as I had to get dressed. Provide a small kettle and tea bags along with the coffee maker, or make the coffee drinkers walk to the pantry.Even cheap hotels have tea making facilities.Pillows were too soft.

My second visit in a short space of time, and this was definitely the better of the two. While the rooms are generally pretty small they're clean and comfortable and it doesn't take long for this hotel to start to feel like an old friend.
The soap dispensers remain maddening though.
4.3
Front door was difficult to find, but once inside the staff was great. There is just a small sign near the door and we missed it.
4.3
Room was tiny with the slant of room making it almost impossible to move around without knocking yourself out.
4.3
Great location, comfy beds, great staff. We strangely were given a disabled room so our shower had no door so water got everywhere in the bathroom. That was a little strange. And there were several emergency cords in every room you had to be careful to avoid. But being at King’s cross it was super convenient and I would stay there again.
4.3
I enjoyed staying in the hotel. It is actually right next store to the domestic train station, so it was super convenient. And in front of the hotel and train station is a major area, where people sit and pass through. I most enjoyed just watching Londoners. London is so diverse. Impressive!
4.3
This was a great hotel in London. It was very convenient to King's Cross station and St. Pancreas station. We loved it.
4.3
The rooms are on the small side (not unusual for big city hotels), but the room was lovely. It's a very short walk to Coal Drop Yards (with all the restaurants and shopping) and being next to a transport hub (St. Pancras/King's Cross) means that you can get almost anywhere quickly via Tube or trains of various sorts.
Every staff member we interacted with was lovely -- helpful, courteous and charming.
This was a wonderful (and wonderfully convenient) place to stay!
4.3
Great hotel if arriving at Kings Cross for a concert in Camden and a 1 night stay. Room was small but fancy. TV didn’t work as a TV which was annoying but did connect to Bluetooth device for some playlist tunes. English breakfast was tremendous in a posh restaurant setting. Apart from TV fault only thing can mark down is terrible Muzak in the bar and restaurant!
4.3
The staff was very friendly and clean property, I would recommend staying here.
4.3
Great hotel just a shame room service stopped at 10pm
4.3
Great location for the Eurostar

Check in perfect. Welcoming. Easy. We arrived early - and there was no issue in getting our room - or if we wanted to leave our luggage. Breakfast was right up there as well - the staff again - super attentive and couldn't do enough for you.
4.3
Remains a firm favourite, perfect location for travelling by train and getting around London. The facilities are great and the staff very friendly and organised, really can’t have any complaints. We stayed the week before Christmas so could ´hear’ the sounds of the neighbourhood and parties a little more than usual if that is a factor for you but I would not trade the location for that.
4.3
Excellent location great staff very pleasant experience. Will return
4.3
No hot water on a Sunday morning when I needed to take a shower. Didn’t offer a refund but just a free breakfast.
Also got the handicapped room. I would have preferred a regular one or been asked if I wanted a handicap room.
4.3
A great lovely old building and hotel with so many great spaces and rooms.
The only disappointment was reception staff, first impressions count!! The pantry was also not as advertised.
4.3
Very nice hotel in a convenient location. Room on the 5th floor was very quiet and the staff were all very friendly.
4.3
The hotel itself is beautiful, clean, and very well located next to the train station. However, the room was very small, too small for a couple with low ceilings.
Whilst the description stated that it had a business center it did not. There was no room in the bedroom to work, and the lounge was not ideal as they had no proper space or tables. Not a suitable hotel for business people.
They did had a coffee machine in the room which I love, but it didn’t work. They did not offer tea, and there was only two small milks so not enough for more than one drink. Strangely even though we were a couple they only had one biscuit seems a strange place to scrimp on.
The soaps and shower gels etc were very good with a lovely smell. The bathroom had a fantastic shower. They offer beautiful bathrobes. I would recommend they look at the towels however as there wasn’t one I could use for my hair.
The receptionists were young and inexperienced. They offered a basic level of service.
Overall, for the price, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel, especially for business.
4.3
First class hotel, location close to King Cross/Euston Stations.Excellent service from friendly and professional staff.
4.3
I liked it’s proximity to the train station, unfortunately St. Pancras/Kings Cross attracts some undesirables but as long as you’re not wandering round there in the early hours of the morning it’s manageable
4.3
During my recent stay at the Great Northern Hotel, I was reminded of the true essence of hospitality. As soon as I stepped into my room, I was met with a delightful fusion of classic charm and contemporary comfort. Waking up to views of the bustling King's Cross St. Pancras set the tone for my London adventures. After a long day of exploring, returning to the plush bed felt like a dream. Breakfast at the on-site restaurant? Simply divine. But what truly made my stay special was the staff. From personalized recommendations to ensuring I had everything I needed, they made me feel right at home. Every time I recall my London trip, memories of the Great Northern Hotel will be front and center. I can't wait to return.
4.3
The room size is really tiny regarding the price.
4.3
Clean but tiny room with precariously low ceiling. Slow wifi and faulty TV.
It was very convenient for an early Eurostar with terminal just across the street, but I can't think of any other reason you'd want to stay here.
4.3
Room layout is odd, with the bathroom providing limited privacy.
4.3
Perfect Location for access to St Pancras. Hotel & staff were excellent! Loved the brownies, etc left for us in the pantry next to our room.
4.3
Great location and lovely stuff.
But for the 3 day stay we had Faulty Towers experience starting with them tying to initially put us up in a room for disabled ( with a very basic hospital style bathroom), then safe was not working, restaurant was not open, room service did not have the wines listed on their menu and in fact the reception had no idea what wines were on offer. Safe got fixed but then stopped working the next day and we had to wait for reception to come and open it for us. Then they had to come every time we had to open or close it. We were only informed that there were tea and coffee facilities at the end of the corridor the next day, after calling reception and asking why there was none in the room. When the restaurant opened the next day we went for dinner and waited over 1 hour for the meal to be served. And beware of the "king size bed" . It's UK sizing not international as one would expect from an international chain ( Marriott). The staff were charming and apologetic, offered us free drinks and discount on our meal. I do not regret staying there but it did cause unnecessary stress and disruption to our business trip.
4.3
This property was perfect for my first stay in London, the location could not be better with the subway and the train station literally just downstairs. There are so many restaurants within walking distance and because there are so many people around it feels very safe even at night. All the staff were very nice and accommodating and were very helpful to any questions I had. I would stay here again in the future and recommend it to any one of my friends & family.
4.3
Superb location for Eurostar. Property of decent quality & condition (as it shold be at that price). Help-yourself pantry a nice feature. However, overall feeling: impersonal, soulless & insipid
4.3
The staff were excellent, hospitable and very accommodating. It was easy access to train stations and the restaurant was delicious
4.3
Poor value for money as the room was tiny and bathroom poor.
The bar is extremely rowdy.
Even though there were two staff on duty at the restaurant bar (where we had a table booked) they would not serve us a drink in the upstairs lounges where it was quieter. We had to go down to the bar, purchase drinks then take them upstairs to the quiet lounge.
4.3
The hotel is beautifully maintained and spotless. The building itself is well over a century old, but the interiors are modern and exhibit high quality. My room was comfortable and quiet, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The location is also excellent, as it is literally next to the Kings Cross and St. Pancras underground stations with their direct access to other parts of the city, Heathrow Airport, and the Eurostar. I definitely would recommend the Great Northern Hotel as a place to stay.
4.3
The hotel was clean and quiet despite being above a major train station. The pantry at the end of the hallway is a nice touch. They have coffee in the room, but no tea? It's London, why not a few bags in the room? The largest room only had the little settee, even for a couple, it was not enough, one more chair in the room is needed. The bed was like an ironing board. The bathroom is less than a foot away from the bed. The bathroom doors were two mini french doors with frosted windowpanes, except you could still see your partner on the throne. The lack of a fan to turn on could be a problem, I know I used the bathrooms in restaurants and attractions to avoid using our room one. The double shower was roomy. Area has many restaurants, but lacking good breakfast options. Rails is a disappointment at breakfast and dinner, would chose to spend my money elsewhere. German Gymnasium across the street is great. Hotel staff is nice, our room was ready early.

I loved the understated elegance of this hotel. The couchette room was perfect for 1 person, beautifully furnished in an art deco style with nods to the hotel's history. I liked the pantry at the end of the corridor, where there were two coffee machines & kettle, plus homemade chocolate brownies, chocolate bars & apples. There was no kettle in the room, but it was no problem to walk along to the pantry in robe & slippers to make tea in the morning. The pantry had just been cleaned & was spotless, although I didn't see anyone else using it. After I returned to the hotel at night, I found that someone had closed the blinds, turned the bed down & left a bottle of water & chocolate, which was a nice touch. With a late checkout at 11am, it was blissful having a relaxed Sunday morning lounging in the comfortable couchette bed. The bathroom was small but tastefully decorated with a large walk-in shower & rainfall shower head. The hotel's toiletries are divine. The hotel staff were really kind and helpful, and looked after my suitcase while I did some shopping in Covent Garden (15 mins on the tube). The only downside was that I did hear noise (trains?) late at night, but put some earplugs in and it was fine. I was also woken by early morning light, so blackout blinds might have been a better option. In any case, I had a wonderful stay and will definitely be using the hotel as a base for future to trips to London.

Lovey accommodating staff. Also really loved the pantry such a lovely touch to the hotel.
Rooms are quite small for the price. Might also be a nice touch to add pastries in the morning to the pantry. Room rates are expensive and paying for breakfast on top is quite a lot. Overall lovely hotel and location though
