NOT welcoming, shower inadequate, quite dirty. Pictures are deceiving. Could hear all conversations from other rooms. WiFi didn’t work Would not recommend

Stayed two nights, friendly pub with good food .
Staff were great, location fabulous.
Rooms were clean and good shower, mattress a little lumpy but overall great value for money would definitely use again.

Utilitarian accommodation. Landlord received us in a functional manner. Food was poor. Room was in need of decorative attention.
Clean bedding & a good night's sleep. We left in the morning by the front door...no-one was about.

2 night stay only. Check in easy at the main bar,, staff very helpful. Food was good and we ate there the first evening.
WE were offered a free upgrade which was great and we will definately stay again when we are back in Wales. Beer was also great which was a bonus for my husband who likes real ale.

Set among the soaring, spectacular mountains of north Powys, this early 18thC pub accommodation is very basic and the rooms need serious updating and some maintenance repairs. Rooms were sparcely furnished but had towels and soap, a large telly and clean bathroom. Despite the very basic provision, there are many plusses. Dai and his staff are very welcoming, very helpful and keen to make your stay a comfortable one. He'll prepare a cooked breakfast himself if you want one and the food is good. We ate there on all three of our nights there. There is free parking space but if full, there's a car park literally a few yards further on. It's very popular with locals with a full complement of dining customers, walkers and also motorcyclists on a one night stop. There were no issues that needed resolving but Dai was very glad to have a chat and make sure you weren't in need of anything.

Location is beautiful but hotel and its services isnt great. The room had leak patches with poor cleaning though bedding was ok. Heating was excellent which helped the kids. Breakfast options were poor with just bread toast as an option.

We arrived at 9PM. It looked like we were not expected. We had to wait about 10 mins to get in a room across the street of the hotel. Possibly that our room was given to someone else. In the room we got it was no soap or shampoo, I had to ask the reception for them. It was no heat, I had to start the radiator, the walls had holes (I was thinking at mice and spiders getting in thru there), a large mirror on a desk was falling if no cup was stopping it from sliding. I was almost to have it smashed by taking the cup for tea. Unpleasant to cross the street with a small child just to ask reception for soap and shampoo

Great location for Welsh nature. Very friendly staff. Had problems with WiFi both in the pub and the room. No info in the room regarding meal times, network access etc which was odd but the ladies behind the bar were very helpful and friendly so was able to have an enjoyable stay.

Firstly, we knew this was a 2 star hotel when we booked. It was the location that was important not the facilities. Never the less the hotel is cosmetically dated and very run down.
Room 8 has a broken toilet seat, a tap that does not turn off, a dribble of a cold shower, broken window latches, a double wardrobe full of Christmas decorations and items of clothing, torn carpets, silicon sealant on sockets, a bedside seat made of a chipboard box and uncovered foam.
The location is stunning, it's just a shame the owner has let the hotel deteriorate this much. It will not take much effort to fix these broken items in the hotel which will make a huge difference to visitors experience.

The worst hotel I've stayed in. Should've been 1 star. I've booked double room but found a twin room with a bunker bed. Looked like a dungeon. It's not only outdated but dirty and shabby. My mattress didn't have any support. There is a kettle but no sockets around. Positives: it was quite.

It's not a place for family stay.

Owner on check in wasnt very welcoming very old shabby and dirty, i know its a 17th century inn but but thats no excuse to let it fall apart, the room carpets are worse than an old public bar carpet, the bed was falling apart but surprised its lasted this long as it holds a kings warrant from 1929. Only good thing was the location for sightseeing and walking, and the bar maid from Leeds was very nice and cheerful too

Very olde world. Great for a night over if you are adventuring for the weekend but wouldn't go there for a family vacation for longer. It was nice enough and welcoming although our room was above the bar and the music and laughter went on very late and was quite loud. If you are a light sleeper probably look elsewhere, but if not this is a perfectly good place to stay for the night.

Why is this dump on Hotels.com? £70 for a very small room with a double and single bed crammed in, and no breakfast. No bedside table or lamp. Matresses and pillows should have been thrown years ago - we could feel every spring in both beds. Large cobwebs, dirty carpet, rubbish in drawers, rubbish under bed, 2 coffee sachets and a few loose tea bags and a kettle but no milk. Bathroom was the smallest I have ever seen, smaller than a touring caravan bathroom, although it was reasonably clean. Towels and bedding were thankfully fine, but no pillow or matress protectors. TV was positioned on window ledge behind curtains and impossible to see from bed. Had we not arrived so late in the evening we would not have stayed even though we had pre paid, but we couldn't find an alternative at that time. We left at 7.30 in the morning after a terrible nights sleep. Nothing like the photos on the web site. DO NOT GO THERE!

Key requirements- WiFi and clean
Advertised as having WiFi - I needed it to work and communication with the kayaking event coordinator. No WiFi when asked about it I was told it’s because other people were using it. (Assist manager)
I tried it at 5am still none!
2* expected it to be clean and have what is advertised!!
Room not just tired but dirty!!! Unfit to stay in.
I asked to speak to the manager on Friday eve - assitant told me he wasn’t there.
I tried on Saturday morning, no one available
So left the key and left. I called to tell them my situation and could the manager call me back to organise a refund as not coming back he didn’t call me!! I wanted to discuss a refund.

Awful!!!
The rooms were dirty, worn out and not fit for purpose. The shower head was broken and the carpet torn and threadbare.
The breakfast room was dirty and there was random items everywhere. The cutlery and dishes were not the cleanest. The breakfast on the second morning did not appear as apparently the chef was drunk the night before and did not turn up!
The bar food was okay but I found a large piece of blue plastic in my lasagne.
This place needs gutting and rebuilding. It should be condemned. The mattresses were old and stained.
The two bar staff we met were very nice and helpful.
The worst place that I have ever stayed in.

The hotel is extremely basic and furniture appeared old, giving the overall feel of our stay disappointing, especially when we paid £70 each. We realised one of the rooms had two beds - it would’ve been nice to have been told this so we didn’t pay for another room (I stayed at the hotel with my best friend and her partner). The next morning we left our rooms at around 10:50am as checkout was at 11am. It was just the weirdest experience - there was no one in the whole building and doors were locked. We were in the hotel alone and had no one to speak to/hand our key to. We wanted to go to the bar for breakfast and juice (there were signs around about breakfast beginning at 8am) but due to the fact that there were no staff around whatsoever, we had to just leave. Its extremely unprofessional and strange to have no staff members (or anyone!!) in the building at all. Genuinely felt like something from The Twilight Zone. I would absolutely not recommend this hotel, even for just one night.

Fantastic pub and host (Dei). Arrived late but welcomed and the landlord went out of his way for food and hospitality. Rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. Breakfast is plentiful and tasty. We'll be back.

This is a basic hotel, definitely no frills and in need of some work (if only to complete the work already started & fixing basics like taps & water being able to drain from the sink).Staff were not sure what to do when we tried to check-in & no staff available to offer breakfast on first morning...... but it is located in a beautiful part of Powys, Wales.

The Pub is ok, beer was good, food was not amazing, but the Room… awful. Not the room we expected ( different from the photos appearing in the descriptions ) the cleanliness of the whole place is questionable, neglected, and urgently needing a complete refurbishment. Mushy smell in the whole place, blankets, closet, etc…On a positive note, the bathroom was clean. We were suppose to stay for 2 nights, but stayed only 1. Sorry but no matter how much a place costs or how many stars, there are some essentials in this business.
