This hotel need a complete renovation.
The only positive things were the location and free parking. Also had WiFi.
Our room didn’t even have soap in the room. The room was super hot and couldn’t adjust the temperature! Had to use a fan in the window. The view would have been spectacular but the outside of the windows were filthy.

The Shoreline needs massive capital improvements. My room that lacked a screen. The sink stopper was broken. The TV does not get standard network programming only streaming services. That’s a problem. Lack of convenient and numerous outlets was also an issue. I only had 1 chair. rather than 2 which is customary. The bath tub lacked a tub mat. I could have fallen quite easily had I not brought shower sandals. And during my showers the water would run cold for no apparent reason. I will definitely not be staying there again.

Feels like you are practically in the lake. Love this place.
3.6
There was black mold on the vents and fixtures, buss bars plugged into extension cords to supply electric. Room smelled like contact cement, it was from the bed spread.
3.6
Basic , clean but comfortable. Excellent views of the lake from the room. Did not have air-conditioning, but it usually cools down in the night so it wasn't a problem. The property and common areas are nice
3.6
property is run-down and not updated. There were plastic bins in hallways to catch leaking ceilings. Door locks were poorly installed; carpeting is stained and old; the windows in the room lacked screens and were dirty; curtains were stained and barely functional

The staff was very nice. Overall pretty clean. The building and rooms are very dated. Location is great. Lakeside rooms view artists point but our large picture window in our king bed room was totally clouded in the window glass with broken seals.
3.6
Our room was filthy and never lean on the posts off the patio as they are very loose and one could easliy fall over if you were putting any real weight on them. Also no staff anywhere from 7 to 9 p.m. until morning.
3.6
The patio was great for early morning coffee or an evening drink. Beautiful view of the lake.
Our room could use some updating but it was clean and the staff was very nice.

We could not get the TV to work after lots of help from the staff. They were very apologetic and comped us an extra night to make it right. It’s a cool, old-school place that is trying to uphold a long tradition in Grand Marais. I will go back there again!
3.6
We had room for 3 nights. No room/towels or service of any kind. Floors and room were dirty. Then there was a envelope in our room for tips.. really! Since we used our same towels for 3 days, dried them with a box fan. And made our own beds. Guess what no tips.
3.6
Needs to be completely updated. Rooms dirty and very rundown. Staff pleasant…..just not worth the money.
3.6
The location is the best. The patio out to the lake is a plus. It is dated and does need a good deep cleaning. The carpet in our room was pretty stained and I let them know that at the desk. They said they were going to clean it, waiting for us to check out. Wish the breakfast that is included, had something to eat for people that don’t want all carbs. Staff was very friendly.
Very quiet as I believe it was concrete built and not just out of wood that is noisier and creaky. Would stay there again because of the price and location. We just don’t spend a lot of time in our rooms when we travel.

Views of the lake are incredible! Service was great. Hotel is old and dated, no AC, fan in the window, flys in the hotel room. Toilet kept running. Needs a major revamp including new windows so the lake views are even better.
3.6
Really not worth the price. I should’ve looked at reviews before booking and really regret staying here. No hot water, not exactly clean, super dated, weird smell, woke up to a bug crawling on me. I wouldn’t have minded the state of things if I’d payed $50, but this place was way over priced. Great location though! It’s a shame they’ve let this property get to this state.

Overall property was needing alot of repair. No frig, no coffee maker
Nice location on the water

This is a prime piece of property that has deteriorated and is on the verge of a shut-down or fire. The view was sensational and with the hot humid weather and only fans to move the air around, it was uncomfortable at best. The bed's springs were so old that I thought it was a water bed when I climbed in the first night. In charging my phone in the bathroom the plug got very hot. The shower was an exercise in water temp adjustment that was a timely start to the experience. Staff was not engaged unless necessary and somewhat grumpy at best. Carpet smelled of smoke though it was touted as non smoking. What an asset it could be but it will take a lot and perhaps a teardown at best. Owners live in two different states far away and may be waiting for a fire or a teardown offer. Sad for such a beautiful view and location that is prime. Charged for two nights on my charge even as we paid the bill for two nights when we checked in. Yet to untangle that. Sad to see, challenging to experience as so many reasonable accommodations we experienced on this trip were such incredible values for all the important things and excellent staffing.

We got upgraded to a lake View room because the cleaning staff accidentally forgot to clean our originally assigned room so that was pretty nice. The property is very close to dining options within walking distance and shops for souvenirs, etc.

Worst hotel we’ve ever stayed in
1) Bug infested room 2) Bad screens & windows 3) Room was stifling/terribly hot - we couldn’t open the windows 4) Neither tub nor sink would drain properly 5) Broken thermostat 6) Dirty carpet 7) Broken toilet seat 8) Filthy shower curtain
We brought these things to the attention of the hotel manager. She came up to our room and agreed that the room was terrible but never apologized. We requested a refund but she blamed Expedia and said that she couldn’t refund the money. She said that she couldn’t get a hold of Expedia for a refund.
We’re requesting a FULL REFUND and recommend that you DO NOT USE SHORELINE INN for future bookings
Hotel Manager said that she reached out to the owner but the owner wouldn’t do anything.
We have NEVER complained about any hotels that we have booked previously through Expedia but felt that we needed to let you.

Nice to be so close to the lake. Beautiful view

Beautiful view of Lake Superior but the windows were old and clouded. We couldn’t see the lake.
Looked like it hasn’t been updated in a long time. No air conditioning. Very steep steps. (18steps) No elevator. Tough with suitcases.
3.6
Check in isn’t until 4 pm and staff wasn’t friendly and wouldn’t let us check in even at 3:30. I didn’t have a hair dryer in the room and they never brought me one when requested. It’s an older hotel and it shows it’s age.
3.6
It has an area outside (the patio) and the downstairs commons area where you can gather with others.
3.6
Very basic cleanliness. The inside windowsills were very dirty, the windows were dirty, the carpet was dirty. Many things needed repair. We were there for 4 nights and were told to put our used towels in the hall if we wanted clean ones. On the second day we put our towels out at 8:30 a.m. and when we came back at 2p.m. there were no fresh towels. My husband mentioned this very civilly at the front desk where 3 women were behind the desk. He was told that they had only one cleaner. As he walked away that woman said that she hated men like that. Our expedia reservation states room rate of $119.00 per night and $59 in taxes. We were charged $159.00 per night plus $89.00 in taxes. We were told Expedia was difficult to understand and didn’t calculate all the taxes and fees

Great place. Staff friendly and accommodating. Check in easy. Location close to everything. Deck wonderful

My wife and have have been coming up to grand marias for the past 6 years for our anniversary. And we were able to find a place yo stay at the shoreline Inn. With this hotel you do not get what you pay for. I reserved a lake side king room and they over booked us. So we got switched to a road side room. The door was open when we got to our room there was not hot water there were stains in the sheets there was no ac but you got a old box fan to put in the window. The beds were from the 90’s if not older. They did switch us to a different room the next morning was a little nicer still no ac but got a fan on light work the other was burnt out. Dead flys and webs on the window sill. I don’t complain and i dont mean to sound harsh but its definitely not worth what you pay for a room at this place.
3.6
The location and patio out back are terrific. Not only can you easily walk around town, access great restaurants and sites but the view is spectacular and so relaxing.
The negatives are that it is very, very worn so much of it looks dirty or is uncomfortable: carpet throughout, beds, pillows, furniture ... Bathrooms were clean, it just seemed like everything needs a major refresh. Even a little bit would go a long way.
3.6
This place is a great location, right in town and on the lake. It could use some TLC but worked great for our visit.

No air conditioning which wasn’t disclosed on the listing.

Very reasonable rate, friendly staff. Great location

Check in wasn’t great since place was
Locked until 4. They insisted I had not paid so paid for stay of 3 nights. Checked VISA bill and found I did pay on March 13, 2024. Was told they changed companies and payment was lost. I would have to call VISA card and deny earlier payment. We were told there was no choices of up or down so was put on second floor at end. Husband found stairs difficult. Also it was very warm and we had no air. But had a fan. Window ledges full of bugs (I cleaned off). We never saw or heard of any maid service. We used same towels for 3 days. I could not get a paper print out of bill until morning we left. We left before office open. Continental breakfast at 7 (too late) but no one there first morning until going on 8.
Location was great.
3.6
The location is the best part of this hotel. Otherwise, it’s a roof over your head with a great view of Lake Superior.
3.6
Had a room facing the lake and the view was awesome. Its a 2 star hotel.. you have to remember that. A little old here and there but it was clean. I would stay here again for sure easily because of the location.

Monica was amazing! She helped us with our room and was incredibly gracious and friendly. We will be back because of her!

Booked our June trip back in February, even called Shoreline to verify that they had my reservation. Everything was good and confirmed. After driving 6 hours for our family vacation, we Arrived and we were told my reservation was cancelled and that they can’t control what third party apps do. Front desk said Expedia cancelled my reservation. I’m not one who likes to show strangers my emotions, but I couldn’t help it and started crying. we don’t make an abundance of money, this vacation took us a long time to save up for. This year was going to be special because we splurged and booked Shoreline so we could right in town. The staff was friendly and was able to give us accommodations for their other Inn. Sadly this inn was not by the shore and not right in town. Once I calmed down emotionally and got settled in at Aspen Inn, I checked my Expedia account. My reservation was NEVER cancelled! I had a confirmation number and everything, with an email asking how check in was!!!! I know the last minute accommodation the staff was able to find for me was an okay deal for the size of the room (family suite), but the whole reason we booked Shoreline was because it was right in town and shoreside view. The location was what was important to us, not the room size. Shoreline needs to update their systems or something because going from being extremely excited to a complete crying mess was not a highlight of our vacation. And to blame it on Expedia when it wasn’t Expedia that cancelled!?!:(

This is a great, albeit a little dated, hotel to stay at in Grand Marais. The staff was helpful and the room was clean. If you don’t need luxury, I would highly recommend.
3.6
Nice inn. A little on the old side, but the view was wonderful.
3.6
When we checked in they billed me for the room, when I told them that my credit card was already billed I was informed that they changed systems and that it should have been credited back to me but they hadn’t been payed and I need to contact my credit card company. Not something I want to do on vacation.
The room needs a huge renovation. We had a water view but the window was cracked and so dirty we could barely see out. It has dirty drop ceilings with water stains. We had 2 twin beds that squeaked when you moved. We each had one pillow that was hard. The TV was small. There was no AC but there was a fan in the closet with a small fridge, iron and hairdryer. There was very limited counter space in the bathroom and the sink was partly under the counter. The water pressure in the shower was ok.
The best thing was the location and price.
