An amazing stay. Loved having our own private onsen to relax after a day’s exploring. Enjoyed all the traditional touches that the hotel offered.
Beautiful surroundings and extremely convenient for the station at Gora. Definitely better to take the train than the bus as the roads were pretty busy. The Hakone Freepass was definitely worth the money. Enjoyed the rope way, although low cloud meant we couldn’t see Mt Fuji. The Open Air Museum was excellent.
The evening meals were both amazing and beautifully presented. But, for our palates, we found the breakfast a little too much.

Amazing instalations, amazing food, amazing service!

A great traditional stay in a Japanese onsen hotel. The hotel rooms were large and comfortable. Our room had the traditional floor seating and private wooden bath in the balcony, all of which was well maintained.
The hotel included dinner and breakfast as part of the stay which again was traditional. Dinner was huge including several courses which had all been translated and explained in English. Breakfast is also traditional Japanese fare including rice, fish and miso (so if you’re a coffee and toast sort of person you will be disappointed) Again this was generous portion!
The hotel is super central, just a short distance from the Gora station making it easy to access upon arrival and also central for all other attractions in the area.

Natural hot spring is the main reason to stay, very close to the Gora station.

We returned to Setsugetsuka after an absence of 10+ years while we visited other parts of Japan. It was a very comfortable & pleasant homecoming!

This ryokan was beautiful and very comfortable to stay in!
Utilized the onsen baths everyday and their dinners were beyond excellent 👌

The stay is fine
However, when I check out , the staff claimed that I haven’t paid for the stay and asked me to settle the payment
After clarifying the whole issue, it was discovered that it was the problem of Expedia, therefore, I was very disappointed with the reservation experience because the hotel said that my booking had been cancelled and rebooked again by the Expedia.
Moreover, one of the staff there was not helpful.

The entire place was a vibe by itself. Enjoyed my stay, a pity that I was only there for a night! The onsen (both public and private) were fantastic. Rooms were clean.

This has got to be the worse maintained property I have seen in Japan so far. Other said the hotel is old. I have seen old hotel but in much better shape.
We were assigned the building further away. Hallway walls shows wear and partially patched up. Inside the room you can see air eommo dust and very heavy limestone formed on the shower glass door as if they've never cleaned it. Dust also obvious in the mens changing room where you dry your hair. There were 6 spots for the hairdryer but only 3 stools. Not recommend for the price I paid. Only positive point is the location, being the closest to Gora Station. that's all

We had an amazing one night stay. Our room is a traditional tatami with a modern twist for bed and washing facilities - wonderful. The hotpot dinner was great, with many appetizers and sushi's. And the breakfast was no second to the dinner the night before. I hardly eat any breakfast usually, but in that morning I felt I had a lunch and a dinner. We didn't go to the public hot pools, nor the private ones which were always occupied. So instead we had our soaking in our balcony where we fill the soaking bath with hot spring water. The hotel is less than 2 minutes walking distance from the Gora train station and the cable car which took us to Hakone and back. The park and museum just a short walk up the hill were wonderful.

Very convenient as it is very close to Gora Station. Food and facilities are great. Quite disappointed on cleanliness and services compared to my first stay few years ago.

We love to stay here when we visit Hakone. The only downside to booking with Expedia is that dinner is not included! I enjoy having dinner there since it is a nice japanese experience but there wasn't an option to add on dinner and by the time I arrived, it was all booked up.

I was hoping for an authentic ryokan experience, but I think this place is a tourist trap. We paid $300 for one night and though the private bath in the unit and the onsen were nice, it was nothing impressive. I’ve seen better onsen at a public sento. More importantly, I was so disappointed that our reservation did not include a kaiseki dinner, which is a major part of the whole ryokan experience. Even if we wanted to add on the kaiseki dinner, we could not, because they did not have any more open seats.
Another thing to consider is that there was barely any restaurants open nearby around dinner time, except for a katsu place. So that was the only thing we could eat for dinner that night. We asked the staff at the front desk beforehand what there is to eat for dinner around the area and they were no help at all. Keep in mind, I can speak Japanese so there was no language barrier there. They just were not helpful.
Then when it came time to check out the next morning, I asked if we could extend our check-our time to noon instead of 11am. They said it costs ¥2,000 to extend for an hour, which is ridiculous, considering how expensive this place is. Even a Holiday Inn would allow you to push back your check-in time for free.

Perfect spot for visiting Hakone. The hotel is next to the Gora station, which is a good starting point to access the Ropeway and other sites. Rooms are spacious, well-appointed, with private outdoor bath. Loungewear is provided for walking around the resort, with optional casual kimonos available also. The kaiseki dinner was plentiful and delicious, as was the breakfast. Service was attentive and pleasant. We would stay there again in a second.

This hotel is located near Gora station. We arrived too early for check in but they offered to keep our luggage for us until the check in time. So we were able enjoy lunch and sightseeing for a few hours. Their customer service was above beyond throughout the stay. They have multiple Onsen facilities and restaurants in the building. We had a great time and definitely come back and recommend it to others.

Extremely satisfied with this 1-night stay at Hakone Setsugetsuka. We had a lovely Japanese type room with a bath on the balcony where we could relax in private. The ryokan offered a delicious dinner course menu and a japanese breakfast set the following morning. Conveniently located just 2-3 min from Gora, this was a ryokan that I would like to recommend to others.

Room and Onsen are very clean and comfortable to stay for 3 days with family. There are inside and outside Onsen, both are impressive to feel Japanese traditional culture. Breakfast is tasty and enjoy several foods. When I visit Hakone area next time, I would like to stay again.

Excellent onsens, especially they have public ones (male and female seperate) plus three private ones on a first come first served basis. I booked a room with private onsen, stay one night, end up not using that in - house one. Expect dinner to be better as we have paid premium rates for that. Breakfast was very good.

The major advantage is location coz it is just next to Garo station. This hotel is no difference from other japanese hotel---helpful staff, hot spring and japanese dinner. But I think it is not value for money. In fact, the hotels in hakone charge too much in general.

It is very impressive that there are private bath in the hotel which you can enjoy onsen with your travelling partner. The overall environment is clean and decorative. The room is a bit small and old however there is an outdoor private bath in each room that can compensate. The food there is generally OK and the portion is acceptable. For travellers who drive, there is a parking lot. So don’t worry. However it is a bit difficult to find the hotel as the location is quite remote especially at night, stay alert when driving.

The hotel was amazing, but the stuff dont speak english and it makes the communication very hard.We choose this hotel to experience japaneese hostage but it was too difficult, cause no one can explain us about the japaneese food we got in the breakfast and during the dinner.Just the service of the Kai, from the sushi restaurant stuff was great, cause he explained us a little bit.
