Showers were a little dirty and there were some strange people but other than that not bad I heard you can get better hostels for the same value but still cheap

Fantastic location and great price. Its still a hostel so you never know who the other guests might be but still deserves 5 Star. Also has an Izakaya Restaurant in the lobby.

This is one of the most disgusting hostels I've ever seen. Everything smells horrible and there's dust and dirty everywhere you look. I read some bad reviews and thought "how bad can it really be?". It turns out it's really that bad. I tried to talk to the staff about leaving earlier because I really didn't feel comfortable there but I would have gotten no refund so I endured it and stayed for 5 nights. I've been traveling full-time for 5 months and this was by far the worst hostel I've seen.

The property is good. But needs just a little bit of dusting but overall i will still recommend. Easy check in and out.

Like: Clean, friendly staff, easy check-in/out, very comfy bed, some space for putting luggage (not much but still better than some other hostels). Washing machine for free with free detergent coin operated dryer. Can also borrow the umbrella from the hostel if needed. Dislike: the room door was screeching continuously, making me very uncomfortable whenever going in/out since I would disturb others. Hope the hotel fix it soon. Hot water can be on and off in the middle of your shower due to other users. If it happens to be suddenly cold, just let it run for a few more minutes to be hot again. Also, Expedia website says towel will be provided but it wasn't (you have to book the room "amenities included or rent it for 200Y). Should edit this info. Overall enjoyable stay, thank you!

The lining is clean. All other is dirty. The wall ,The carpet, The bath room.Need major clean and carpet washer and new paint. this is the worst hostel I had stay in Japan.

Pretty good hostel. Nice bar downstairs ( you get 10% off ). Room was a decent size but not much space for luggage

We stayed in this hotel for a total of 5 nights, but the 3rd night had a problem. There are people stealing luggage in the female dormitory. There are money and passport in the bag. The hotel does not have CCTV. Therefore unable to determine who stole We are disappointed with the solution of the hotel problem. Suggest that the hotel should add more security. And remind guests to keep valuables in a safe place.

The staff were absolutely lovely and would help us at the drop of a hat. The food was really good and the music was fun. The smoking downstairs in the restaurant is a huge turn off for me, as there is nowhere for non-smokers to enjoy their food. I rarely dined downstairs because it stank of cigarettes. One of the clothes dryers was out of order which was inconvenient. It was near impossible to get hot water in the showers - sometimes you had to run it for 10 minutes just to get it going. I took completely cold showers on a number of occasions. During our stay, someone defecated on the bathroom floor and walked it all throughout the room. After that incident, we often found very dirty toilet seats and it was not enjoyable trying to use them.

The place is neat, organized, clean and with friendly staff.. the only downside is the accessibility from train stations. Overall it was a nice stay.

Good: have elevator and easy check in. Staffs were nice and good english. May improve: no living room except the first floor where was restaurant. There are space on the top floor where place refrigerator but it seems store room. If the hostel clean and prepare it as living room, it will be so perfect.

It was a good hostel, with friendly staff. The bathroom/shower facilities were quite good, however sometimes the hot water didn't work in the shower. In fact, there was no hot water on our last morning there, so we couldn't have a shower. I think the hot water didn't turn on until a certain time, but we weren't informed of this. Our double room was really nice and the bed was quite comfy. The only problem was the curtain was thin and let through a lot of street light, so it'd be good if the room had thicker curtains. Overall though, I recommend this hostel!

I stayed for 2 days. This hostel is so clean and staffs are very kind to me, I am absolutely satisfied. And I recommend you TAKOYAKI here. You should try it !!!

The staff was very friendly and the restaurant downstairs was a convenient and delicious place to eat. The bathrooms could have been cleaner but overall it is a pretty decent hostel and a convenient place to stay.

Roots Hostel has friendly staffs and the place is clean. The bathrooms have bidets and the rooms are well maintained. The shower room is also clean and they provide shampoo, conditioner, and body soap. There's also a Lawson convenience store just a block away if you need to buy food and other necessities. Roots Hostel also has a good menu if you want to try their restaurant downstairs.

I stayed at Roots one night only. However, I have a couple things I concerned which are the smell of takoyaki restaurant on 1st and Staff couldn't recommend sushi place around the hostel. At least they should have tried to search further for information.

I thik this is more hotels.coms fault. we never knew this is a bedroom without bath! hotels.com did not say that. we paid over $100 for a double bed room, there is nothing in that room except two beds. No nigh-stand even, no TV, nothing. Unbelievable. The bath for Male is on a different floor! it was the worst experience ever... this is a very typical low-cost thing for young travelers, but with this expense, over $100, I enver thought we will get a room like this. have to say this is a terrible experience with hotels.com!!!
