Pleasant stay but room was dated and in need of decoration. Lovely breakfast.
1.5
Unfortunately we were in the main hotel which is very dated. There was no proper blind on the bathroom windows which meant that people could see us when the light was on and it was dark. No privacy. The room was very dimly lit, the curtains were faded and the material was splitting .The bed was not too comfortable , the mattress needs replacing. Thecooked breakfast was tasty and served hot. The carpark was easily accessible Had no problems parking
1.5
Very convenient for shops and the train station. Friendly and very helpful staff. Parking on site.
"Faded glory" perhaps describes the building best, old fashioned decor, bar and breakfast room functional but not inviting. If you have any mobility needs, even just an aching knee, mention it when booking as we were given a room at the top of the building accessed by 60 stairs..

The hotel is well placed for green and city walks
I would have liked a top sheet because some of the night I was hot
Staff were helpful and friendly

Hotel was friendly and functional with rather tired room in need of an update. But everything worked and there was free parking. Excellent breakfast.

Was a 1 night stay while visiting relations a short walk away. Was convenient for us. Nice place,

Good VFM accommodation in the area with a great breakfast.

Nice big rooms, bit dated but clean will return when working in the area again

The room was too small and awkward.

There’s a handy car park at the rear of the property with video surveillance. Ideal for a biker.
The staff are personable and friendly. I was made feel most welcome.
The facilities in the room are everything you need. No complaints there.
The building, fixtures and fittings are old and shabby. The carpet in the room has burns and stains. In need of replacement.
The one no-no is that the cups in the room were dirty, with ring stains from previous beverages. I had to wash a cup before making a cuppa.

Old City Hotel kept in great condition and affording a large room with comfortable beds and good room facilities. En-suite was fine - and despite the weather being warm and the hotel not being air-conditioned, the room remained cool at all times as did the whole hotel. Breakfast was cooked to order with very tasty and good quality food - and a more than adequate choice to eep us happy for four days.

Good location, staff very pleasant and helpful.
We requested a room on a lower floor and they obliged. Free parking on site.
The room was freshly painted and clean but the curtains were old and the chest drawers had a crack in the front.
As it was very hot we would have liked fridge for cold water, however a good powerful fan was found for us.

The hotel is ideally situated in the town, but close to a busy road. The free parking was a bonus. But on the whole the hotel is looking very tired needs decorating throughout. Our room was ok, a long climb up a lot of stairs. It was clean enough but very basic! The bar didn’t appear to be open at any point either The staff were great and friendly, the only positive I can say about the place. If I visit the area again, I wouldn’t stay there

Such lovely staff breakfast is amazing. Beds are comfy place is clean Place needs updating. But can’t fault it for value

Basic but adequate accommodation for the price. On site parking was free but limited and fairly tight spaces given a few works vans present. Good breakfast with excellent staff. Some areas require some sprucing up or maintenance. Nothing that could not be fixed with paint or varnish. Some rooms could be a little noisy due to proximity to a busy road.

Sigle room was fine. Staff were friendly.

I had a wonderful stay in the Russell Hotel with my husband and my parents, and although we stayed only one night, I'm happy to recommend this hotel for an evening longer stay. The rooms are spacious and tastefully furnished, with comfortable beds and furniture, well-equipped with essential toiletries, tee/coffee maker as well as some complimentary hot chocolate sachets, which was a nice touch. There are also enough (and conveniently located!) sockets to charge all the usual electronic devices. Water pressure in the bathroom is great, and everything is clean and well maintained. This is not a modern hotel as such (be warned there is no lift) but it's very charming and the staff are wonderful. Breakfast is very nice for the price, and here too the kitchen staff are very accommodating and helpful. There's also an adorable mini library where you can borrow a book to read during your stay, and there are a couple of picnic tables to enjoy in the pretty garden. All in all, we had a fantastic stay at this excellently located hotel and we would be happy to return any time. Highly recommended!

Stayed for one night to attend a party. Good price point, quiet hotel with 24/7 front desk which was really useful as could leave our room key. Dated and old, but things work and it’s in a great location a 5min walk from town. Parking spaces too!

Small boutique hotel in tunbridge wells. Nice breakfast staff are fantastic super nice and friendly. We stayed here to be near friends that live local. Walkable to and from train station takes about 45 minutes or so to get a train to London.

Good price, very convenient location. Free parking and a nice full English breakfast included. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed our stay and would book again.

Stayed in a twin room which was a last minute booking for myself and a friend. Yes the hotel is dated and a bit quirky but it's welcoming with friendly helpful staff, has character and breakfast is included.
Beds were comfortable with fresh white linen.

On arrival at the Russell hotel was a bit sceptical.. The building is a bit dated but l pleasantly surprised. Warm welcome by the owner. Our room was ground floor disability room prefect for me as l can't manage steps. The room was very clean, very comfortable beds with crisp white sheets. 3 pillows on each bed , white towels and soap and shower gel. Plenty of tea and coffee, the kettle was also clean. Smart TV hairdryer everything we needed for a comfortable day. We couldn't get a Uber soon sorted by the owner. For to mention on site bar for drink too. The breakfast plentyful tea coffee toasts real butter and Jams. Full English the sausage was very tasteful. We didn't wait long for breakfast either. I would definitely recommend staying there. We will return if we are in the area again. Many thanks to all the staff very pleasant and helpful.

Lovely clean friendly hotel in a great location

It was good for a quick night away. Room dated, you can hear the neighbouring rooms. Tiny tv. Loo felt unsafe to sit on. The bed had a plastic feel sheet under the bedsheet which was noisy and strange. Issues, but ok.

The staff were friendly and the breakfast was cooked to order and presented quickly. We had booked a twin room and was given a room with three singles. The room was very spacious but very tired and tatty. The corner of the floor in front of the shower had a puddle of slimey water. The mattress protector on the bed i used was a little stained and one of the chairs was wobbly and the vinyl was torn.
the Russell hotel is a lovely building and so much potential.
A little investment and i would be happy to return.
