20mins walk to the karuizawa station, it only costs around 1000yen for a taxi ride. Dinner is a must try here, very delicious and decent traditional Japanese cuisine. Room size is okay, just the public bath is a bit too small.

If you are looking for an experience of historical Japanese style vacation, TSURUYA-RYOKAN is definitely "must see" accommodation in Karuizawa area. They have great hospitality of "OMOTENASHI" spirit with a very convenient location in Kyu-Karuizawa area. (Classical district) No worries! They do have good communication skills in English. In fact, I saw quite number of non-Japanese guests visiting this Ryokan during my stay. They have delicious dishes. Please do not miss a beef stewed of "Shinshu-Wagu" serving in their breakfast buffet! You will not be able to stopping drooling!! : )
