This is my second adventure at the Thousand Kyoto, and while it may not have been as long as my first stay, the experience was nothing short of magical—if not even more spectacular!
The staff here are incredibly friendly and professional, creating an atmosphere that feels like home. We paid for an upgraded room and it was immaculate and spacious, with a lovely corridor area that adds to a much bigger space!
But what truly made this visit unforgettable was a delightful reunion with a staff member, Hikaru-san. During my first stay, he had been in charge of our luggage, and his warm greetings, always by name, made us feel so special.
Fast forward seven months, and the moment we stepped into the hotel, there he was—Hikaru-san, the first person we bumped into! He greeted us instantly by name, like we were longtime friends! I wasn’t surprised to hear he was promoted; he truly deserves every bit of recognition!
While the hotel itself is phenomenal, it's dedicated staff like Hikaru-san that infuse a personal touch, making it an extraordinary experience.
Since my last visit, I’ve recommended this gem to at least three colleagues and friends, and they all rave about it being one of their standout highlights! What an amazing place to return to!

Generally nice and while any complaints are largely explained by Japanese cultural dynamics, at the end of the day hospitality should accomodate guests. Two main complaints were no access to Spa with tattoos and ultimately staff being too hands on regarding baggage etc. If I prefer to move my bags myself please allow me to.

It was an pleasant experience

Everything is good, except the setting in the room is not convenient, which I expect to be better and more user friendly.

Friendly and helpful staff, excellent sauna, room is large and clean, 5 minutes walk to Kyoto station. Highly recommended if you are looking for accommodation in Kyoto.

High food quality. Stunning Architecture.

The hotel is really near the station but we came out of an entrance on the other side and ended up walking along way round. Best to look for the Kyoto tower and head that way then its a really easy walk across the plaza. The hotel itself is modern. The rooms were a good size but not huge. The downside of being so close to the train station and centre is that there is no view from the rooms we could just see walls. However upside is that the station is one huge shopping centre with so many places to eat. Plus at the top there is view across the city, there is a sky bridge with lights in the ceiling that change patterns. Even the outdoors stairs have lights in them. It was an excellent location. Breakfast was good with a buffet and a menu to order from. We did not eat dinner here but they had a nice pop up bar and a light show next to the spectacular indoor stairs every evening. Staff were really helpful looking after our bags on the day we arrived and left.

Due to the typhoon, I missed one day here and that was my only issue. From the smell, to the lobby, the first steps into my room and the dining experience everything exceeded expectations and I’ll be sure to return here on my next visit!

The room was pristine, the amenities were great - we had access to a crib and free stroller rental for our overseas stay. Technology was cool, we especially loved the robot that delivered ice to our room late in the evening (from around 10p). The aromatherapy upon entry and art features in the lobby (musical, lighted steps and sheer fabric kinetic art feature) were also highly appreciated by our family - a nice calming environment to return to art the end of a long hot day touring Kyoto.

Lots of dining options inside the Kyoto station, just across the street.

Super convenient to Kyoto station. If this is a "4-star" hotel, it is a "4.99".

Very clean, modern nice hotel, close to Kyoto station.

The room was spacious for a hotel close to JR station. The Japanese restaurant was good. The service was good too.

Close to the station. Spacious clean, beautiful and comfortable rooms. Incredibly beautiful installation art. Loved everything about this hotel. Fun fact if you need anything you requested on an iPad and a robot delivers it👍 the human team was quite exceptional as well.

We were traveling from the US and stayed here. Would highly recommend this hotel. Extremely convenient from the station, it is located right by, so you can just walk. The property is done so well from the lobby, rooms to the restaurant. Staff is exceptional! Wish we could have stayed longer.

The Thousand is probably the best hotel I've every stayed in. I've stayed at the Ritz, Mandarin and other 5 stars. However, something about the country and culture makes them exceptional. The property is top notch, but the people makes them special.

recently had the pleasure of staying at The Thousand in Kyoto, and it was an experience that exceeded all expectations. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the seamless blend of modern luxury and traditional Japanese aesthetics.
The hotel’s design is stunning, with sleek lines and natural materials that create a serene and sophisticated atmosphere. My room was spacious, impeccably clean, and equipped with all the amenities one could wish for. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, ensuring a restful night’s sleep after a day of exploring the city.
One of the highlights of my stay was the impeccable service. The staff at The Thousand went above and beyond to ensure my stay was perfect. They were attentive, friendly, and always ready to assist with any request. Their recommendations for local dining and sightseeing were spot-on, enriching my Kyoto experience

Very stylish, but style over substance for sure. Example being the projectors which make cool patterns on the lobby stairs at night - looks great from above, but if you walk past or down the stairs you get blinded by projector lights at eye level!
The coffee in the restaurants is absolutely terrible and machines constantly "needing service".
Many other examples I won't bore you with, and all minor annoyances, but if you're paying this price it's not great.
Plenty of better options out there.

We had a wonderful night stay at the Harmony Suite. The bath was truly amazing and we did not want to leave the room. The super helpful and kind attitude of the hotel staff is also worth mentioning. We definitely look forward to staying at the Thousand again.

I love this hotel. Room, dining, staff all first rate. Dare I say excellent on all respects.
Hotels in Japan seem to not offer late night movies in English nor apparently in any other language. After a long hot walking day and a delicious dinner a late movie is kanpeki

While the hotel is not near many of the famous sites, it's conveniently located next to the Kyoto central train station. The hotel felt incredibly luxurious and was our favorite hotel in Japan

Perfect hotel and very close to the main station of Kyoto
2.0
Overall not a good experience, despite the good quality and position of the hotel, simply because of questionable management choices and bad design.
Membership of “I Prefer Hotel Rewards” is effectively forced upon newly arrived guests, or no access to the room will be allowed until 3 pm, even if the room is ready and empty.
Form is preferred to function in a lot of things, making guests’ life unnecessarily difficult: for example the complicated light control via iPad, which nevertheless requires buttons for some of the lights (and if you are not alone, the other room’s occupant will have to figure out something else); no room for storage even in large rooms; need to accept the Wi-firm terms every day to not be cut out of the service; and so on.
Service is average by Western standards and not very good by Japanese ones.

The Thousand Hotel was so nice. The reception area and staff are very welcoming. The scent in the lobby was so nice, I had to buy the air diffuser and essence oil.
The rooms are beautifully designed and bed was super comfortable.
This hotel is a stones throw away from the train station which made it convenient for getting around.
I would definitely stay here again and recommend this location.
