It was such a magical experience. To stay in a modern hotel converted into traditional Japanese room with modern amenities was such an experience. The location of the hotel was perfect since it was centrally located and easy to walk to train stations, restaurants and tourist spots. The staff were very accommodating and friendly going out of their way to cater to your needs. And as a bonus, the tea house setup by the lobby was perfect way to spend a quiet morning or cap up the long day with stories with your friends.

Super kind staff, very clean and comfortable hotel. The room was big and equipped with everything you might need for your stay. Very convenient location, between the center and Kyoto station.
4.8
The staff were very welcoming, taking our luggage to our room before we arrived, as we had sent a couple of suitcases from Tokyo. Breakfast isn't available at the property but there are options nearby. The complimentary tea and coffee in the room was a nice touch and the room was in excellent condition. It was a delight to experience such a classic-styled room.

This hotel was super pretty!! Really good honestly and space was sizeable for Japan! It was a 5-7 minute walk from the bus stop so you do have to haul your luggage around but honestly a quick walk, pretty well situated close to some touristy stuff but far enough for it to be in a quiet area. My only complaint is the bathroom, it’s a bit small so I had to shuffle around to wash my hair and the curtain had a stain on it. But besides that everything was perfect!!

Got upgraded. Loved the property and the service! They gave us plenty of free water and coffee/tea

Great place great people

The place was very quaint with traditional and modern amenities. The concierge was very nice and helpful. She helped cancel and book a restaurant reservation for me prior to my stay. She was also very helpful in giving advice and tips on exploring the area. The room was really spacious.

Great location, beautiful rooms and quite spacious

Staff were lovely and very helpful - very pleased with the space and standard of the room. Highly recommend.

Booked 1 room for 4 people, room was comfortable and staff was friendly. We enjoyed our stay as the location was also convenient and quiet!
4.8
Beautiful hotel with large rooms. We stayed in 4 different hotels throughout Japan and this was by far our favourite. Great location (Walking distance to transit, restaurants and lots of shopping).
4.8
This was a lovely hotel, with excellent staff and facilities. We had a Machiya room which was spacious and well appointed. The only complaint, from an old man with a bad back and bad knees, get in and out of the futon on the floor was a bit annoying. Would definitely still go back.
4.8
It was great
4.8
Property was in a good central location, however the walls and the ceiling were very thin so you could hear the guests upstairs walking around in their room or talking next door.
4.8
Outstanding Japanese hospitality, located within walking distance of Kyoto’s exquisite historical and spiritual sites, as well as its modern, vibrant shopping districts. This is a superb choice for any visitor.
4.8
friendly staff. Great room with a washing machine. Fantastic stay!
4.8
Super well located in Kyoto. Very clean and very nice everything. Would stay here again.

Beautiful well, equipped, spacious rooms!

Location of the accommodation was ideal for my wife and I - peaceful and away from all the hustle and bustles of the shopping districts. The room was spacious and has amenities that are well maintained. However, one downside was that the walls of the room are so thin that you can even hear the hair dryer blowing next door. Service was fantastic with the duty concierge greeting you everytime you leave/arrive at the hotel. Perhaps one thing that they can improve on is getting a better antenna/signal for the tv as it doesn't work/have signal most of the time, resulting in us not able to use the tv for our stay. Overall, we had a pleasant stay with The Machiya Ebisuya!
4.8
This was the best little 30 room hotel. The staff was kind and helpful. The room was spacious. There was a complimentary laundry room and a comfortable and pretty lounge with tea and coffee. There is no restaurant but the hotel next door has breakfast and the major shopping area is about a 12 minute walk. Highly recommended.
4.8
Beautiful hotel. Everything was excellent. Had a very comfortable stay. Staff was friendly & helpful. Room was perfect for our family of five.

We had a great time at this hotel. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. They had assisted me when I lost my cell phone during the stay in Kyoto. Appreciated their help. I would highly recommend this hotel for its convenient location too.
4.8
Place was great and as described. It was really clean and very close to a lot of places we wanted to visit including Gion and Nishiki market. Room was a bit dark and it would have been great if it was a bit bigger too.
4.8
Comfortable, good location, nice to have 24 hour tea room
4.8
Good choice if you want a stylish, clean and quality oriented boutique hotel in the heart of Kyoto. Traditional japanese and modern thinking are blended together with great amount of good taste. Location is very good - quiet area but still close to Gion, Nishiki Market, Shijo Dori areas etc.. Walking distance to many attractions and public transport also.
4.8
Booked a queen suite but be warned they have interconnecting doors so you can hear your neighbours very clearly, and very little storage.
We had to leave this hotel after 2 hours after finding an infestation of insects/bugs that looked like large cockroaches in the room. Staff sprayed whilst we were still in the room leaving us coughing and didn’t have any spare rooms to offer us. We found alternative accommodation and Expedia were amazing at refunding us.
I would strongly advise not to book this hotel.

Wonderful hotel with spacious room and very friendly staff. However, the bed is on the firm side for me as it seems typical of most japanese hotels in my limited experience. Other than that, would definitely recommend.

First time in Kyoto, 3rd time in Japan. Hotel location was excellent. Easily walkable to Teramachi with eating and shopping options nearby. Easily accessible by taxi to many sites. A 15 minute taxi ride from Kyoto station. Super quiet location. The staff were exceptional. They were very kind and super helpful for everything, including bringing the bags to our room, extra blankets and water, laundry, and calling for taxis. They also let us know about an annual Kyoto festival parade happening during our stay, so we were able to attend that also which was nice.
The hotel has a small, quaint feel. We stayed in the smallest room with 2 twin beds due to booking only 4 weeks in advance and every other room type was taken. The only real downside to this hotel are the beds. I like a medium firm to firm bed myself and can also tolerate something a bit softer, but these beds were some of the hardest I've ever slept on and were very uncomfortable. If this hotel would soften up their mattresses a bit, I would recommend it without hesitation to anyone.
Staff were amazing - I had to say that again:)

New and clean property. Imperial palace and market place are walkable, along with a lot restaurants. Hotel had a Zen traditional vibe to it. Free tea room and laundry room. Would highly recommend!
4.8
We had an amazing experience staying here. 5 mins walk from the large market and very touristy area, and close to konbinis. The room was so cozy and clean, the staff was very professional.
One thing we were troubled with was other travelers. One group had occupied the laundry room for the night and had not considered to share with other travelers. The hotel tried to accommodate by offering the people waiting to wait on line but could not do much. Wish those travelers have considered to follow the local rules and basic Japanese values on sharing and being polite.
4.8
The rooms are pretty big compared to typical Japanese hotels. Staff was very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Had traveled with a group of 10 people and they were able to help us transport our luggages to the next hotel. Staff spoke English

Very comfortable hotel with attention to detail in a sweet and quiet part of town (but still convenient to walk most places!).

Lovely property for the price. Also, free washing machines to do your laundry!

What a wonderful hotel!
Great staff, beautiful rooms, excellent laundry amenities and great location are the reason as to why you should stay here. First rate service.
4.8
Quite a walk from public transport but manageable. Very helpful and hospitable reservations staff that assisted with local knowledge and provided an excellent breakfast everyday of our stay.
4.8
Loved everything about our stay. Not much else to add aside from that I’d highly recommend it to anyone headed to Kyoto

Veey clean and comfortable rooms. Helpful friendly staff. Good location to main area of Kyoto.

It was like it was brand new, Absolutely loved staying here it was a great spot and easy to walk to main tourist areas.

This property was beautiful! It's a small location with maybe 4 rooms per floor, the staff was very nice and greeted us every time. There was a nice hand written note in our room welcoming us when we arrived. We loved our room. Will definitely stay here again if we visit Kyoto in the future.
