Booked this hotel because reviews were good. We did not experience what the reviews said. Room was worn out & dirty. Overall hotel looked worn out. Carlsbad is a working town so lots of contractors from oil & gas fields using all the hotels hard.

Decent stay, but needs an upgrade. Bteakfast was adequate. No pool. Bed was comfortable and staff were helpful.

Nice clean hotel on the outskirts of Carlsbad. Great place to stay when visiting the caverns.

Got to room & fridge was unplugged so it wasn’t cold at all for our cold groceries. Plugged it in & knew why, there was a loud noise that didn’t go away even after 4-5 hours so had to consume all perishables & unplug it. Then the room was 77 when we got there so it took hours to cool down. During the night it kept shutting off & wouldn’t come back on until it was at least 6-8 degrees above the temp we set it so everyone said they didn’t sleep well because it was so hot in the room. There were bags of beer cans by the elevator & someone threw up in the elevator. Still wasn’t cleaned up the next day. Never staying there again!!

Front desk was really friendly. Breakfast was ok. The room was larger than I anticipated which was nice. We found some tiny blood stains on one of the comforters the morning of check out. I brought it to the front desk’s attention, not sure that came of it, since I left.

There were so many problems with the cats, I don’t know where to begin.
1) Check in-front desk clerk was rude and on a personal phone call via her air pods. She gave us one key for the room and failed to activate for the two days of our stay—so we ended up locked out of our room.
2) The bathroom fan didn’t work. The shower pan was ringed with a rusty red mildew/mold.
3) No lotion or conditioner were provided in the rooms.
4) The refrigerator began making a very load grinding sound—clearly it was dying.
5) At midnight, the lobby was vacuumed. This shouldn’t be a problem, but the room was right off the lobby, so we were awakened by the noise. This should have been done in the late morning.
6) Breakfast-worst included breakfast ever! No milk was available for cereal. There was no butter for toast or English muffins and no knives to spread anything on the toast or English muffin
7) WiFi-despite having the password, it kicked us off after 5 min. Don’t bother trying to use LTE bc there was limited signal.
8) Ramp-there is no ramp to wheel luggage from the lobby to the parking lot.
Ultimately, this was the BIGGEST waste of money. I will NEVER stay at this or any other Main Stays. And I’m highly suspect of properties within the Choice hotels brand.
For the money, La Quinta never disappoints. Avoid Main Stays and head down the street to LaQuinta.

Clean, very comfortable beds. Staff very nice and helpfull.

Very clean and affordable hotel for the area seeing you get a sink, full size fridge and cooktop

Very easy checking in and getting into room. Was very surprised the room layout was just like the pictures. 2 beds and a pullout was just what I needed and just what I reserved. That was very nice.
The young lady at the front desk was very into her tic tok videos because each time I went to the front desk, she was so mesmerized by whatever she was watching she could not look up or even recognize I was standing less than a foot away from her. Wasn’t really worried about this, it was more funny than anything. My big complaint is that the second picture for this place shows a beautiful pool with several watersides. Come to find out that this does not exist. Shame on you Mainstay for tricking your guests like this. I should have known better but how can you get away with this kind of sorcery??? Why not just advertise your rates at $5 and tell your potential guests “free unlimited craft beers”??
While I was satisfied with the service and the stay, I do not appreciate being bamboozled by fake pictures and false pretenses. I’m curious how many others were lured here thinking they were going to enjoy the festivities only to be let down by walking out into the courtyard and finding cornhole instead of a water park🤔

This hotel is great but Expedia is full of lies. There is no pool here. That photo is a city park. When I notified them they refused to fix the misleading photo. Stay at this hotel but book through their website and not Expedia.

Upon checking it looked like it was going to be great. Late in the evening there was a terrible smell in the room. Like badly burnt popcorn. My wife could not sleep but we turned on the fans and put up with it. Smell gone in the morning. The next day we returned to our room in the early evening and all was good but shortly the smell came back. We reported it to the lobby staff and they came to inspect. They noticed it as well but couldn’t offer any solutions. We asked for another room but were told that was not possible because they were booked. It didn’t seem that busy so we checked online and rooms were available. Staff said to book it but at our expense. We asked for management to be advised and apparently they were and again offered no solution. Very disappointed mostly with the lack of concern and willingness to correct when they had options. The refrigerator was noisy that last night and may have been the problem as it may be going bad. Not sure but terrible customer service. I may have rated them too high.

False advertising on including a watermark in their pictures. Bring your own pillows because these offer zero support!

It’s actually surprisingly nice stay for the Cave tour on the next morning. The room is good very size. It has a clean and nice bathroom, together with a small but full kitchen. They have a very small fitness area but only good for simple workouts or just cardio. Overall a great stay.

Property has pictures of a “water park” that’s 15 minutes down the road. It’s NOT apart of the hotel. It smells like wet dog. Bed sheets were dirty. Head board had sticky splatters on it. Once we told the lady down stairs she said “housekeeping knows. They are getting new ones”
Absolutely filthy carpets and even more disgusting bathrooms.

Breakfast items were minimal. No restaurants nearby.

Nice rooms, friendly staff. Limited breakfast. Carlsbad is a boom town right now with oil and gas trucks and work pick-ups clogging the streets and workers filling the hotels so don’t expect anything else!

Breakfast does not have any vegan options in terms of plant based milk etc....

It’s convenient place to stay for our visits to Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe Mountains. The rooms are spacious, well equipped with kitchen, sofa, etc. , the breakfasts are good, parking is easy, and staffs are friendly.

this was a comfortable stay for our 3 nights in the area. At first we were placed in a room in which the neighbors were extremely loud with no regard to anyone else. We quickly asked to be moved and were accommodated immediately (bonus points for the staff person that made this happen and was so nice about it). Our new room was much quieter and made our stay much better. We were in one of the suite rooms, which had the kitchen area. We did not really use the kitchen but did take a peek at everything. Of everything in the room, the kitchen stuff - plates, utensils, pans etc...needed the most help in regards to being clean- stuff just was not really great and really could use a good scrubbing. We did use glasses and plates to reheat leftovers one night, but did not use anything without first cleaning the items ourselves. The rest of the room was much better in regards to being clean and tidy. We did think the lighting was not great overall- pretty dim. We would have loved another light in the room. Bed was comfortable and the shower was hot so no complaints there. Overall the room was fine for us. Main spaces of this place were well lit and very clean. We didn't get to use the outside space due to it being cold, but it would have been a great place to hang out if it had been warmer. Breakfast was decent, you will not go hungry. Location was good for us as we were in this area to go to the caves and the national park just across the border. I felt price was ok for this place

We stayed here while exploring the Guadalupe Mountains and Carlsbad Caverns. The room was plenty big for the 4 of us (2 adults & our 2 college children). The room and facilities were clean and nice. The room could have used a little deep cleaning, but overall it was clean. We did somehow accidentally get a handicap accessible room, so not sure what the size difference/layout would be for a regular room, but ours was good and worked well for us.
We cooked breakfast in the room and packed lunches everyday, then ate out for dinner. I was not sure what cooking/eating equipment would be there so we brought our own. There was a full size refrigerator, 2 burner stovetop, small sink, microwave, toaster, mini coffee pot and mini dishwasher. It was just right for what we needed (definitely could have used bigger coffee pot, but we just made a lot of pots). I also saw things like a crockpot and BBQ tools that you could check out if you wanted. My family did go down to the continental breakfast for waffles, which they said were good. There was also some fruit, a juice machine, and I believe there was cereal. There is also a small "convenience store" in the lobby with snacks, cold drinks, frozen foods, etc.
There are a lot of oil field workers that stay here, but I also saw many families on vacation. We were on Spring Break (2nd week of March). It was fairly full but it wasn't overly busy and never felt crowded. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Excellent stay with comfortable bed and nice staff. Breakfast was ok. Close to Carlsbad Caverns. Great overall

The staff was great and there was someone constantly cleaning or vacuuming anytime we were in the common areas. There’s a lot of oil field workers staying here, so you could tell the staff was used to having to follow behind them to clean up dirt. We (mom and two kids) were on the top floor and I swear the ceiling was made of cardboard. Of the three days we stayed, two were very windy days. The first night, we heard nothing but a weird on/off and extremely loud whirring noise that seemed to be connected to the vent fan in the kitchen. I finally figured out it was the vent on the roof blowing in the wind. The last night, a cold front blew in from a different direction and the roof sounded like it was peeling off of the building. The whole structure was creaking all night, loud enough to wake me up.
Overall, the other guests were quiet and the breakfast had a lot of choices. The hotel was neat and the staff nice.

Really like the layout of the room, we were on the 4th floor and only 1 elevator. We requested top floor, but if you are unable to do stairs may want a lower floor. Room was clean, full size fridge was very nice.
We would definitely stay here again!

The hotel was fine. Their policy of reservation being non-refundable was unfortunate. When booking on Hotel.com I put my date as 2/5. When the booking went through, it turned out to be 2/20. I hit confirm then immediately realized the error. I immediately went through Hotels.com and they directly reached out to the hotel. They were informed the manager wouldn’t be in until the next day. My husband was driving cross country and needed a hotel room. I made a reservation for 2/5 paying $40 more than my original reservation at their hotel hoping they would realize it was just a mistake. I just heard that they wouldn’t refund the money. I am out $135. Wouldn’t recommend them regardless of how nice the hotel may be. Service is more important.

Every hotel receptionist was very welcoming. Our room was very clean as well as the rest of the hotel. Definitely staying here again when we come down to visit family.

1st room smelled terrible. Asked to move & was told they were booked, which was not true. Finally got the manager to move us & the 2nd room didn’t smell, but the room was not clean. They refused to move us again, so we left & went to a different hotel. They refused to check us out until our scheduled check out date.
