Really enjoyed our time at this place. Would return.

We loved our stay. Coral Bay side of the island was quiet and easy going. The view from the VRBO was lovely. Adored waking up to coffee on the porch, and then coming home after a day doing activitites around the island to dip in the pool and then have a meal and nightcap on the same porch. It was awesome.
The drive up/driveway is kind of dauting the first few times, but a good car with 4 wheel drive and it is doable.

We loved the house! It has everything we expected and more. Beds were comfortable, plenty of towels, nice large pool and soectacular view of the bay especially at sunrise.

This home was fantastic. Unbelievable views that are even better in person than photos can capture. The pool was great to come back to after exploring the various bays nearby. Really appreciated the welcome when we arrived to help with finding the property and navigating the last mile of the road in. The home had everything we could hope for and more.

We came to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and my 50th birthday later this year. The house was amazing! Everything you ever need when away! The views are breathtaking and we can’t wait to come back again!

We celebrated my 50th Birthday with friends. I will start with the views of coral bay from this house are Amazing there are no words to describe other than Breathtaking. The owners have this home stocked for vacations. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need, right down to spices you need for your morning Bloody Marys. They provide all the things you need that you can't fly with beach coolers, chairs, towels, umbrellas, floats, even sunscreen and bug spray if you forget to bring your own. The living room, bedrooms, baths and pool are all as described in the listing. We spent most of our time on the balcony enjoying the sunrise and sunsets. As everyone has said before, you must have a 4 wheel drive jeep for the driveway. Its a real adventure for sure. After the first few time you get the hang of it pretty quick. Make sure to have lou give you a lesson on backing down the driveway to the house. Overall a outstanding trip and home. We enjoyed our time there and cant wait to go back. St. John will forever have a piece of my heart ❤️

We stayed here for 6 days and the view was phenomenal. It was easy checking in and the property was extremely clean and quiet. Definitely recommend a softer bed for the master suite as it was a little on the hard side. There was plenty of towels, beach chairs and even an umbrella for our beach days.

We stayed the week of April 21st. It was quite the experience making our way to and from the property but absolutely worth it! 4x4 is a must! The property is fully stocked with anything you could need. Not a better view on the island and could not get enough of it! Pool is large and refreshing...saw a lot of iguanas in the trees on property. We definetly recommend and would return to Almost Heaven!

We had a great time at our Almost Heaven home for the week. The house was great, had everything we needed. Once we got used to the driveway and turn off road, it was fine. We loved the pool and the hammock chair. Highly recommend!

From the moment we walked in we truly felt like we were dreaming. From the flowers hanging over the driveway to the views from every room this house had it all. We loved the decks and pool! The seating on the decks was perfectly set up to realx and take in the views. As other reviews have said driving here is not for the faint of heart. I would not consider this a con because I think it keeps this part of the island quieter and more laid back. We can't wait to visit again!

This was our first trip to USVI and it was a wonderful experience. This was probably the most well appointed VRBO property we've ever stayed at. The house had everything we needed. You can tell the home owners/property managers thought through exactly what would be needed for vacationers who would not be brining a lot of beach stuff. The kitchen was fully appointed - we made dinner in almost every night (hit Skinny Legs for a night out, which was great.) There were plenty of beach towels, beach chairs and a beach umbrella, which really came in handy for our Northern climate skin that has not seen the sun in months! We could not get over the view from the balcony. Watching the sunrise every morning was so beautiful and we ate dinner outside every evening. Our two girls - 8 and 10, loved the huge pool. Even after a full day in the ocean, they still swam every day! The drive to the house was pretty surprising, even with reading all of these reviews, but after the first day, it was no problem. The location was perfect - not far of a drive from everything we wanted to see. And exploring the island was so fun (a 4 wheel drive jeep is a must). We hit 6 beaches in a week: Trunk, Salt Pond, Honeymoon, Francis Beach, Haulover, and Cinnamon. we had the best luck snorkeling at Salt Pond. We loved seeing the donkeys, goats and chickens on our drives. We have a wonderful vacation and can't say enough about the property!

This was the perfect family for our family traveling with a one and three year old. The pool being fenced in was one of our biggest draws to the villa along with the view (which did not disappoint). We used Island Baby to rent essentials that we needed. Property was very clean and each bedroom had its own full bathroom. As others mentioned you need 4 x 4 but if you want the view which you do!, then you have to take the drive. St John is still our favorite place we've traveled and we prefer to stay in Coral Bay

A lovely home with a beautiful view of Coral Bay.
Two caveats-
1. Getting to the house is not for the faint of heart. The road uphill from Coral Bay is so steep our car struggled to get up. And the road to the house has steep drops, hairpin turns, and big rocks in the road. It's quite manageable, but only if you're up for it.
2. Insist the property manager meet you in Coral Bay and lead you to the house. You'll never find it on your own, not even with the best GPS.

We loved our stay at Almost Heaven! The views were absolutely stunning! The house was very clean! The kitchen was stocked very well and we had no complaints. We had a problem with the water but it was fixed ASAP and we were very pleased with the communication and efficiency of the repair process. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it to anyone planning a trip to St. John!

The first thing to know is that you do need a four-wheel-drive to get to and from this property if there are some steep hills. Yes, it was a little unnerving getting to the property and getting down the driveway for about a day, and after that, we were fine. The property is advertised with three bedroom suites (comfortable beds) each with a full bath. This was wonderful for three couples. The kitchen was very well stocked. We loved the view and spent mornings and evenings looking at the bay. The pool is a bit on the cold side, but in the mornings, it was wonderful to lay in the chaise lounges around the poolside. We would stay her again!

We enjoyed our stay at Almost Heaven. The check in process with Leo was easy and quick. House was clean and the views cannot be matched anywhere else. We didn’t mind the drive up to the house. It adds to the appeal and reminds us of our NC mountains. We used the pool once but it was quite chilly. Property manager advised they had been having some issues with the pool lights but it didn’t affect us. The kitchen has anything needed to prepare a meal. The ice maker is not currently working, so just an FYI you’ll need to buy ice at Love City, Dolphin Market or Calabash. Thanks for a lovely stay!

The views were wonderful. Bed comfortable. Villa very clean with a well stocked kitchen that had everything you might need to make a meal. Very large pool with a view of the BVI. We have been to the island many times and this was one of my favorite villas. The drive to the villa is steep but my husband did not seem to mind it. Thank you Matt and Tim for a great vacation. We will return!!!

It was very comfortable, clean and the view was spectacular. As others commented the drive down the road/driveway was a bit treacherous, but we were able to navigate it without difficulty.
6.0 / 10.0
This property was not up to my expectation for the following reasons. The house was dusty (especially bedrooms), light switches were not clean, kitchen lights did not all function, exterior lights/fans did not all work (specifically, both lights and fans had to be on and did operate separately), door knobs were coming off, coffeemaker did not work properly, ice maker was not working and filtered water ran slow, getting to the property was not described with full detail.
The pool was nice but did not drain due to low water. Debris collected and was more than could be collected with the pool net. I contacted the owner. Someone was suppose to clean it out, but I didn’t see any difference.
The driveway is as many describe. However, the property description shows a short, steep driveway in front of the house. There is also a dirt road you must travel to the house. This driveway extension includes a very steep slope and a sharp turn. We did have a 4-wheel drive.
The view is beautiful.
We left a day early.

The house was perfect, private and had plenty of room to relax. The gigantic pool was perfect and the kitchen had everything you would need.
We have nothing but positives about the stay and island. The property managers were super responsive and helpful

My family spent a week at the house and were very happy with it. The view from the terraces was amazing. The interior was very nicely decorated and the kitchen had everything we needed. Looked like the place had been redone within the past few years. Even though it was August and hit the main living areas were comfortable and the bedrooms all had AC. We honestly spent 90% of the time sitting on the terraces just taking in the view. Bathrooms were all very nice and modern. Pool was beautiful. As others have mentioned the drive up 108 and down the access road was interesting . To me it was part of the adventure but a 4wd vehicle is a must. Backing down the driveway isn’t that bad once you get the hang of it. The drive to the north shore beaches was relatively quick (15-30 minutes). Hope to get back to Almost Heaven one day.

We just completed a wonderful stay at Almost Heaven. The house was more than we expected - beautifully decorated and comfortable with all of the amenities and comforts of home. The views were beautiful and we already miss sitting out on the porches looking at Coral Bay.

5/5, hard to believe we got to call this place home for a week. Leo met us, drove us to the location, and gave us a tour. Property was perfect, our kids loved the pool and all of the extras they provided for us like board games and chairs for the beach. View was amazing.
I would second the other comments about the driveway. For me it added to the charm, but the others in my group were too squeamish to drive. Not a demerit in any way but those who may be afraid of heights should be warned.
Would definitely rent again.

Absolutely breathtaking views, and every room opens to the balcony. The pool was a welcome addition, and the communication around check-in / check-out was very smooth.
A word of caution: Like in the rest of St Johns, you *need* a vehicle with 4WD in order to make it up and down some of the steep roads, including the very steep extended driveway. But once you have such a vehicle it's fairly straightforward.

As a family that has stayed all over St. John, we couldn’t say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay here! Matt’s home was carefully thought out for guests with every needed detail from the kitchen to the pool. The views from the patios were incredible at all times of day with a cool breeze. The driveway was definitely an adventure to navigate, but after a few tries it became easier. Communication with Matt was so timely and easy. 10/10!

This was our family's first trip to St. John and we had a wonderful time. The views are absolutely stunning of Coral Bay and worth the challenging road and driveway leading up to it. It should be expected when staying high up on a mountain. It's about a 25 minute ride from Cruz Bay. Plenty of room to spread out between 3 good size bedrooms. Having air conditioners in each of them was an added bonus. Beautiful property.

We loved our stay! The house is gorgeous & the pool is perfect. Very big for a private pool. The house truly has everything you need! Hair dryer, qtips, liquid hand soap, dish soap & dish detergent, towels, portable fans, any kitchen tool, coffee maker, tea pot, spices, condiments, any kind of dishes or bakeware, cooler, beach chairs, beach canopy. Seriously very well set up.
The mattresses were comfortable which was a big help.
There were a couple of technical issues at the beginning of our stay. Both were beyond the control of the owner & property manager, however they handled both situations with great care. Definitely impressed.
The house was very clean!

The villa and view are amazing. Nice condition, beautiful pool, very nice layout and very functional and well-equipped kitchen. If you aren't comfortable, or can't quickly get comfortable, with driving on very steep or narrow roads, it might not be for you. Otherwise, you can't go wrong with this beautiful property. We would come back in a heartbeat.

We've been going to St. John for over 20 years and have stayed on all parts of the island in many different types of accommodations, but none with views like this.
We met Leo, the property manager, in Coral Bay to take us up to the villa which was super helpful because I don't know if we would've found it on our own! I've driven a lot of crazy roads in St. John but this one was pretty challenging - a 4WD vehicle is absolutely recommended. Also, as other reviewers mentioned, it's a very tight area to turn around at the top of the driveway or on the road, but it is doable (and a must). Leo gave us a quick tour of the house (which was clean and spotless!). It was very well stocked with everything you could possibly need (and more). Being high up on the hill, there were wonderful breezes and we never felt hot at all.
The views were just beyond words and we couldn't stop staring. It was 180-degree (or more) unobstructed views of Coral Bay & the East end of St. John, but also the BVIs (Tortola, Norman Island, Peter Island, Virgin Gorda, etc.). We could see the sunrise right from our bed in the lower level, but our favorite thing to do was to have our coffee on the upper deck to watch the sun rise out of the water and over the distant islands. While the sun set behind the house and out of view, it still painted the sky beautiful colors in the evening making for spectacular views again.
Coral Bay really has everything you need for those who want a break from the bustling Cruz Bay.

Very nice home and very well kept. Check in process was seamless - someone will meet you in Coral Bay and lead you up to the home. This is important because it's a bit of an adventure driving to it! Not a complaint at all but in the interest of full disclosure I will say that the drive is probably not for the faint of heart.
The views are stunning! Nice kitchen well equipped with everything you might need. We will definitely consider staying here again for our next St John vacation!

Very clean 3 bedroom villa, all with ensuite bathrooms. Bedrooms all have A/C units. Updated kitchen with very nice cookware and utensils. Two level deck overlooking beautiful Coral Bay. New all-weather deck furniture. Property owner and property managers were very responsive and helpful. Great place to start and finish a day of beach hopping and hiking. Our family absolutely loved it and wish we could've spent a second week so we could spend more time just hanging around the villa. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Almost Heaven is aptly named. You are perched high up on the mountain looking out over a beautiful peaceful panorama of sea, islands and constantly changing light. It's worth coming here just to sit and watch the sun rise over it all. Then you can head out, have adventures exploring St. John's wonderful beaches and communities, and come back to float in the pool overlooking Coral Bay. Like previous reviewers noted the road to the house is a challenge I would strongly recommend renting a 4WD vehicle. We started with AWD cars with good clearance but struggled to make it up a section of the extended driveway until we were able to switch to a jeep. We were very grateful to Leo who kindly oriented us and helped figure out where to turn around to back the car down the driveway (as well as to a neighbor who gave us a tip to stay to the right on the steepest section). The house itself is beautiful with comfortable beds, furnishings, a well equipped kitchen that makes it a joy to cook, and many thoughtful touches throughout. Thank you! We would love to come back again!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Almost Heaven. The owner was very responsive to questions prior to booking.
The house and outdoor spaces were clean and the view spectacular. The house had everything we needed. We liked the location, particularly for activities on the east side (Ram Head, Hurricane Hole, Miss Lucy’s). The breezes on the mountain seemed to make it slightly cooler than in Coral Bay. We often wore long sleeves on the deck in the mornings and evenings in February.
Property managers contacted us the day before arrival. We met in Coral Bay and followed the rep to the house. At the recommendation of a reviewer, we asked for tips on backing the 4-wheel drive into the driveway. The property managers were helpful and kind. Thanks to the owner for sharing your lovely home.
