The view of the bay from our room. The porridge at breakfast. The soap in the bathroom.
This is a very dated & dismal hotel and more like a backpackers lodge.
6.0 / 10.0
Centrally located for those visiting Portree. The room was spacious and comfortable, the staff were pleasant and the breakfast was good.
Skye is overrated and Portree is far too busy, no longer able to cope with the huge amount of tourists flocking there. It's an unpleasant place to visit as you'd spend your time looking for a table in a restaurant or a free parking space. This hotel has only eight parking spaces in an already overcrowded town. One night, I had to park my car a fifteen minute walk away. The Royal is fine for bus tours or walkers, but not any use for visitors with cars. Although the hotel was generally good, it was vastly overpriced, but Portree is a tourist trap and the local businesses get away with charging exorbitant rates. The hotel, for all its positive points, was certainly not worth £480 for two nights!

Location and view from the room were excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room cleaned daily and tea biscuits replenished.
Insufficient parking. Disappointing range of choices for breakfast. Hotel passed its best days.

Bardzo dobrze położony hotel. Warto rezerwować kolacje w hotelowej restauracji, a piwo można wypić w barze.
Brak windy.

The location is brilliant and beautiful.
The amount of space we had in the room was incredible. The staff were super helpful and lovely to chat with. Thanks Moe.
The bed mattress could be updated as I found it not that comfortable.

The view from the hotel overlooking the harbor simply couldn't be beat.

Location was great. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Beds very rather small, but very comfortable.
Air conditioning was not working, we couldn't regulate the temperature in the room. However, Staff was very friendly and supplied a fan. They also explained how to open the windows.

Location was phenomenal! Right in the heart of town with many restaurants to choose from
Staff for dinner were very slow and somewhat inattentive to us throughout the night. Several times we needed to flag them down to get any type of service.

The harbour view room we had was spacious and comfortable. The facilities all worked well and nice and quiet in the evening. Breakfast was lovely and the lady looking after it couldn’t have been nicer. Free parking also a bonus. Plenty of nice bars and eating places nearby to suit all tastes and budgets.

The room was a bit dated but it was very large and clean and had an amazing view of the harbor. We loved our stay at this hotel The breakfast was super and all staff we encountered were very friendly. Thank you!
There was party noise that drifted up from the pub on the corner below, but this did not affect us very much.

The location was good and the room we paid for had the promised view.
The shower did not work (there was no bathtub).
We were offered another room but it didn’t have the view we paid for. The staff seemed to think that they did know about the problem ahead of time but it was not clear. We were given the key for another room to use the shower which was inconvenient.

It was very stuffy with no ventilation.

The room was ready when. I got there - check in was easy and the location is great. I managed to get a private parking space on day 1 thanks but on day 2 I did get back late and didn't. I do understand its first come first served to thank you in any case.
It sickens me that I was charged £490.00 for 2 nights (Just because you could - hiding behind that "covidflation" Dick Turpin mask?) for a room that was worth no more than £85.00 pn... (Take a good look at the Rassay room complete with its mouldy shower and floor joints and I would suggest some form of pesticide to get rid of what ever centipede it was and the spiders that I sadly had to dispatch. Probably trying to get your money back to pay for your business interruption loans even although you probably got some government grants to help you survive?... I wish I could put my prices up to mend what Covid did but I can't (because I can't) in that if I did my customers wouldn't come. You fail to see the simple laws of long term economics, common sense and loyalty to your regular customers. This very tired hotel and those rooms are simply not worth £490.00 for 2 nights irrespective of what part of the season it is, or what covid has done and I am disgusted with both the hotel and booking dot com for capitalising on us. ( My stomach turns at what your are charging for what you are giving. Pick yourself up, dust yourself down and do what the rest of us are doing and "Work to survive" and stop putting your hands in other peoples pockets to take money out "because you ca" Work on a first come first served basis - develop "Goodwill" and you will reap more benefits... I am supposed to be a Genius 3 level customer and you wouldn't let me use my wallet to pay for part of this. Yes that's right you just hold on to my money for as long as you can.. I am seriously disappointed with you both and will put every effort into finding accommodation through a different platform going forwards. Shame on you.

Great breakfast.
Visited in May, with bus loads and bus loads of other tourists flooding the town. Un able to secure a reason dinner reservation secondary to too much demand, and too few staff. We had to eat dinner at 5:30 daily during our multi day stay.

The view from the bedroom was nice.
Common areas of this hotel were filthy.
Breakfast was unedible served in a filthy dining room.
There was no lobby or comfortable sitting area for guests to relax.
Bar area was open to the public and was noisy and dirty also.

Breakfast was great in the morning. Very cozy and a lot of options. The room was very spacious and was clean. Liked that they had some room for parking.
One night we walked into our room and it was a good 20 degrees hotter than the temperature outside. We were able to fix the problem by opening windows.

Location in the city was great and beautiful views. The room was very spacious and we appreciated being on the ground floor because there was no lift/elevator. The hotel was near many restaurants and the co-op for gathering groceries for our day trips.
The ambiance of the dining area was average. It is an older property and it feels that way. The food was decent but not much variety day-to-day. Parking was not as simple as it seemed as the lot filled up quickly and one night had a gate on it so no one could have gotten out.

the room is basic, but the view from the room is amazing and simply to die for! we got the front view room and had a direct view of the ocean and the mountains beyond the ocean!
everything was great!

Outstanding location next to the harbor; nice view of the harbor from our room. Excellent breakfast. Lots of hot water, comfortable bed, friendly staff. Free parking available for nine cars that we were able to take advantage of by arriving early.
Very noisy on a Saturday night - our window was right above the main street. Street noise didn’t diminish until well after midnight. No elevator.

We only had breakfast in the hotel which was excellent and good choices.
Didn’t like the bar. Dirty and definitely not what’s shown on photos of hotel.
We only had one drink on the day we arrived. Went elsewhere after that.
