Booked through Hotels.com 5 rooms bed and breakfast. Hotel had us down as breakfast only so we had to pay again for it - when I queried they said it was down to Hotels.com, not them. Everyone then had to pay £10 except myself who for some reason was made to pay £15 (despite being told on the phone by reservations when I called to query the bed and breakfast situation that it would be £10). When I queried why I had to pay more, I was met with a smile but no explanation or offer to sort. In te grand scheme of things, £5 is nothing but its the principle. Room was lovely and clean, bar staff were fab, food was nice but the restaurant was soulless.

Business trip, and I plan to definitely return on a leisure trip. A really wonderful hotel.

Great hotel. First time visiting and I would take it again.

The room was tiny service at breakfast wasn’t good especially considering how expensive the room was. To be fair we weee refunded for breakfast and told if we booked again we would have a room upgrade next time.

Lovely venue, very professional and helpful staff, food high standard, rooms spacious and shower bathroom high standard.

Excellent spa & hotel. Very relaxing!

A very nice stay in a lovely venue. The only downside was the seating in The Fox Bar for lunch. The tables were packed in so closely the lady on the table next to me was brushing her arm against mine as she raised her arm to eat. I could hear very word of their conversation and it spoilt the good food and service to be honest. The rest of the stay was lovely and our room was small but comfortable.

We stopped for two nights. The first night was nice and quiet, however on the Saturday night there was noise disturbance till till 3am.
Extremely disappointed

A flying visit but well worth it. Rooms are grand and so comfortable, very clean and well put together. Very quiet and peaceful at night and all the staff were warm and welcoming, so polite and exceptional service. We’d love to visit again and stay for longer to make use of spa and facilities.

It took so long to check in, with only one member of staff on the desks. The room 131 was tiny and bathroom smaller. The bathroom also had a very strong chemical smell, could of been paint, but was not nice. My room was also next to the a fire exit that had been left open and this was right above a smoking area so that part of the building smelt of smoke. Lastly, when checking out, no one asked how my stay was, so did not have the chance to voice my concerns. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Definitely had cleanliness issues, had loads of dead bugs and animals in my room. The grounds were absolutely beautiful, and the staff were really lovely! Would recommend but they do need to sort out the housekeeping.

Horrible! Never again the room was above the kitchen and the rubbish bins! Flys and noise made the room unbearable, constant noise from the extraction fans goingon - with the weather being warm and not having air conditioning made the room so hot having needing the window open the only option - staff did move me but it’s was so late and spoilt a very special occasion

Attentiveness was excellent, customer service was on a high standard! Cannot fault anything with exception of the lack of air conditioning in the rooms. I’m sure it’s a warm and cosy during winter however please invest in air conditioning.

Great stay, beautiful property but needs better fans in rooms- it was very hot which made it hard to sleep for 3 nights

The staff are very friendly and it is a very nice setting!

We had a lovely stay but unfortunately the room was very small and very hot with no aircon. A fan was provided but wasn’t enough to cool the room down and I hardly slept due to this.
Apart from that it is a lovely building and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Very pleasant stay and staff friendly and professional

Asked for a quiet room-we were given a room which overlooked the gravel driveway entrance to the reception.Footfall and cars driving was very noisy. People leaving and arriving made it very noisy-even at 2am.
The room had no A/C and the one window could only be opened 6inches.

I spent one night at Down Hall hotel and the next morning I used the spa. I did 2 treatments and they were very well done, I loved every minute. The staff was very friendly throughout the hotel. The beautiful nature and the open space was a treat. The bed cozy and comfortable. I definitely recommend it.

It was a lovely stay for our first night as Mr and Mrs. They had gone to the trouble to wish us a congratulations with lovely plate of goodies. Much appreciated and did not go unnoticed. Will be coming again for sure. Thankyou !

Unfortunately the 2 rooms we were allocated were dark and small so we asked to move rooms (as this was a special birthday celebration), but were allocated larger rooms with very tired decor -and a take it or leave it attitude with no compassion from the duty manager whatsoever. Feel totally ripped off and extremely disappointed. Definitely not worth the money.

This was our second stay at Down Hall, as it's a perfect start of the holiday if you have an early flight from Stanstead the following day. The hotel is wonderful and the food at the restaurant amazing. All staff were professional and friendly, in particular the manager was extremely kind and helpful.

A lovely sunny day helped to make our short stay perfect. From announcing our arrival to reception all the staff were extremely helpful, friendly and always smiling. The room we stayed in was excellent and spacious for our needs. Finally, the wedding feast and Breakfast the next morning was ample.

The Hotel and grounds are lovely, the staff were all really helpful and friendly. Breakfast was excellent, as was the food served in the Fox bar. The food served in the Garden Room was delicious but way over priced. Top tip - eat in the Fox bar!

Excellent hotel with superb service throughout

This is a very well run hotel, every aspect from check in, the bar, restaurant and breakfast room works extremely well. This is due to good management and great staff, and of course having a lovely establishment to work in.
I thoroughly recommend this hotel,

The hotel was clean, comfortable and convenient. Rooms very comfy, with great pillows.
Very nice bathroom with lovely complimentary toiletries and fluffy towels.
Bar has a very good range of drinks and the menu is varied. Prices as you would expect from a 4* of this calibre.
Grounds are beautiful and parking is plentiful.
Recommend and look forward to staying again.

Staff were so helpful. Room was perfect and very comfortable. Very dog friendly, excellent food (breakfast and dinner) relaxing cocktail bar, small but intimate spa and sauna - all in a beautiful building within a fantastic and natural setting.

Dog friendly hotel close to Stansted which fitted what we needed for a handover of a dog before a flight and it was a special family treat for Christmas. Extremely friendly and courteous staff, they were all outstanding from reception to dining room and bar, everyone.
Lovely rooms prepared with pride.
