I so wanted to LOVE staying here. This history, the mystery is just so charming. I was put in the Jimmy Stewart room in the old wing for my first shorter visit which was fun in concept but the room was major, meh. Kind of dingy and worn out.
The second time I stayed in the tower room, "the newer side." It SCREAMS 80's. The room, a "suite" was large on a higher floor with a huge corner window but otherwise, again, the room was worn and dingy. For some reason there was no sheer on the window, just the blackouts which meant I was sitting in the dark or blasted by sunlight. And sadly, what was once a property surrounded by the beautiful valley is now on a very busy street. It was loud. The bathroom door basically opened into the toilet. The shower curtain was falling off, the towels were thin. I ended up leaving a day early.
I love the bar and will be back for brunch, but IDT I will ever stay here again. I so wanted to love it, but it needs a major facelift and I don't see that happening. The team on the ground was good. Bar staff great. Worth a drink and a meal but don't recommend staying.

Stayed at this hotel just before the Thanksgiving holiday. The toilet did not flush properly, so they had to move us to a new room. After that the rest of the hotel stay was great.

Room was in the original wing and
was updated.
Toilet was not senior friendly.

Friendly front staff, clean rooms and a beautiful hotel.

I've stayed here many many times and each time is just as fantastic if not more than the last. Jimmy went above and beyond to accommodate my needs and we had a great stay thanks to him and the great staff.

Stay was super enjoyable. While dated rooms were clean and comfortable.

Was the suggest hotel for a 50 year high school reunion. School was right next door.

This historical property is in dire need of extensive renovations, as its current state falls far short of what is necessary to attract guests. Merely changing the carpet is insufficient to elevate the overall experience; a comprehensive overhaul is essential to realize the building's true potential. A successful restaurant should cater to all meals—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—while also providing a well-stocked store offering water and snacks for convenience. Additionally, the staff's unwelcoming demeanor detracts from the overall atmosphere, making it unlikely for guests to return or recommend the establishment. Overall, without significant improvements in these areas, I would not consider staying here.

Only stayed there 1 night rooms were nice they are big and comfortable but disappointed they don’t offer coffee downstairs, coffee in the room is awful.
Had early early morning checkout and they couldn’t check me out.

An older convention/meeting hotel, the rooms are large, clean and comfortable. The upper rooms have views over the surrounding town and mountains beyond. The rooms and furnishings are dated, but have all amenities.
The hotel staff is wonderful. The grounds are beautiful with a large swimming pool and deck area. I would happily stay here again.

Lovely old fashioned building. Was very clean and great people. I loved the pub.

Absolutely loved this hotel. Everyone was amazing. The security guy was very knowledgeable. The tour was so much fun.

There was a bad smell in the room. When I ran the water the sink smelled. The cable tv didn’t work. The shower has mold.
2.5
Very beautiful, well maintained. Friendly service. The room was spacious and clean.

Research showed that this historical hotel is haunted so made an effort to roam the hallways of each floor with no luck finding anything paranormal. Otherwise, had no issues whatsoever.

I stayed there for three nights as I was in town for the Central Coast Airfest. Very nice looking lobby and they a restaurant and a pub as well. I ran into a couple of issues with the plumbing, but the maintenance person was on it as soon as he came by. The guest services phone number was not connected so I had to call the main hotel number to report the issue with the plumbing. The historic building can be a bit of a maze and I had to traverse about 3 corridors to get to the room, but hey, it's part of the experience some history. The front desk staff were very nice and are available 24/7. I would stay here again if I'm in town.

Loved staying in the historic side! It just needs a refresh

We love coming here because it’s such a charming and historic place. A lot of movie stars slept here and noted with stars and their names on the doors. The furnishings are from that era. The restaurant has great food and ambiance. Cloth tables, fine linen, glassware and table ware. The rooms have all been update but kept with original
Look.

This hotel has a rustic, historic feel about it. From the turnstile entrance doors to the musty air that hits you upon entering, one immediately knows that this hotel stay is going to be an EXPERIENCE and not just a basic stay.
The Front Desk check-in clerk was very efficient and polite. She answered our questions and had us on our way in no time. Our check-out clerk was just as professional and kind, as well.
The decor and architecture of this hotel is amazing and truly takes you back to an earlier time period. We loved staying here because just being inside instantly transported us to another time when things were simpler and not as busy as these days.
This was our first time here and next time we need to stay in Santa Maria, we will definitely book out room here again.

The room was big and beautiful but next to Broadway, so noisy especially at night. I know the hotel is old, but also smells old and kind of musty. It was nice to have a washer and dryer available.

Wonderful old classic hotel. Large room, comfy bed, great front desk.
5.0
The only place to stay when I visit Santa Maria.
4.0
Nothing fancy, but comfortable and interesting because it’s not a bland chain-like facility. Staff I interacted with were all pleasant and helpful, and all had lots of patience and excellent customer service skills in response to some guest pushiness and rudeness I observed. Overall, this is an appealing option in the area and close enough to the Pismo Beach main attractions to be reasonably convenient.

Okay hotel but not very luxury

I understand it’s an historic property however some effort should made in terms of amenities in the room. I don’t need to wash with a tiny soap that looks like a mini disc. Also when I arrived to my room it was VERY musty and just didn’t feel comfortable.

Very quaint and well located for our visit. Love the history.
Lobby Stills smells musty after 20 yrs. In the room electrical outlets were so loose chargers would fall out.
