If I had to choose one word to describe my stay here, it would be phenomenal! From the moment I walked into this amazing, beautiful, historic home, I was greeted with joy by the staff, especially Nicole, who went above and beyond to make my stay delightful. The service was impeccable, with incredible breakfasts, Maria, the chef, made the best poached eggs I’ve ever had. The turn-down service and housekeeping were top-notch, room was spotless and dust free. Tea Time was also amazing, and they wonderfully accommodated my gluten-free needs, making the experience even more special. A special touch was the nightcap waiting for me upon my return in the evening, featuring amazing brandy, port, and sherry. The location is perfect for exploring the best points of interest in historic Charleston, all within walking distance. This has been the most exceptional experience I’ve ever had.

We loved our stay. Its was our first family trip only ladies. Nicky welcomed us in. Such a friendly & family environment. Also Gabby, Maurice kitchen staff, and cleaning staff too. We started with an early morning having breakfast we enjoyed very much, choosing our meals every night. Shopping 🛍️ is close if you love shopping. Cafe place we did most of our stay was walking distance Souralle. Ru Ru we enjoyed ice cafe and pizza. We walking to the pier, pineapple 🍍. We want to return again next year. We loved it . Especially the Jacuzzi we had a blast .. we loved everything from 116 John R. We can't wait to return. Quiet place.

We really enjoyed this historic property. It was quiet, but still close to shopping, restaurants, and the other historic attractions of Charleston. The staff is very attentive and friendly. We look forward to staying here again.

John was welcoming from the moment we walked in. Always ready for some port and conversation. The room was xomfortable and beautiful. Flowers, afternoon tea, so much to complement. Maurice made breakfast every morning notable.

We enjoyed a wonderful 4 day stay at the Rutledge House. The room was spacious, the staff very helpful, and the breakfast’s were delicious. The location is also ideal for exploring Charleston and with almost all sites, shopping and restaurants within walking distance. Highly recommended!

The room was comfortable and decorated beautifully. The beds were amazing!! The breakfast was wonderful, however more daily choices, other than the daily special, would have been a bonus. Al the staff were very friendly and helpful. I would stay here again and definitely recommend John Rutledge House Inn.

The location is so good, not the noise of the crowds near the market area and close enough to go by foot and enjoy! The staff are friendly and ready to help and guide any excursion! I love the decroation, the tea-party in the ball room and the beautiful gardens. Thank you for a pleasant trip.

Beautifully kept mansion in the heart of the historic district. Easy walking to shopping, sightseeing and restaurants. Parking is available on site. The staff was great and went out of their way to ensure our stay was enjoyable. Breakfast was amazing and it was very relaxing to have evening cordials in the ballroom. Only amenity we did not take advantage of was afternoon tea.

Excellent from start to finish! Margo greeted us and explained every detail of the room/service. Wow, thru have tea and appetizers, sherry, brandy, and port for the evening! Yum... excellent fresh breakfast prepared for you! Comfortable room! Great location on Broad street so walking every where easy. We stayed in the back of the courtyard so quiet. Parking outside gate for 14.00 daily.

People were extremely cordial and helpful. We loved the afternoon cocktail time. Also breakfast was either served in the upstairs parlor, in your room or back patio and was always freshly prepared. Proximity of walking distances was very manageable. Overall we had a wonderful time. Definately would go back.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the John Rutledge Inn. Our favorite part was in room breakfast that offered us amazing food and lots of choices. The room and bathroom were very clean and well lit. The bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of space to walk around in the room.

Much of the staff were rude, inappropriate, and truly unhelpful. Gay couples are not treated well. Unprofessional behavior on the part of staff, including management, ruined what should have been a nice short getaway. I would add more detail, but Hotels.com keeps rejecting reviews with specifics.

Quaint and very quiet on the edge of the French Quarter within walking distance of most attractions. We had breakfast in our spacious bedroom but were given the option of eating in the lobby or outside. Concierge staff was highly attentive and very helpful. Nice workout facility located a 10 minute walk away at discounted cost. 4:30 - 6 PM tea and gourmet snacks were a great plus. We will definately return. No dislikes

Everything about The John Rutledge was very well done. We were even given an upgrade to a beautiful 2nd floor room in the main house. The house itself was carefully appointed in period furnishings, though thankfully the seated was contemporary & comfortable. Our only criticism was with the quality of breakfast, though pretty well prepared & mostly basic fare with not very "memorable" daily specials, and despite designating items + time, etc. the night before, it arrived often not fresh from the kitchen, entree items not exceedingly freshly prepared with several other side items sealed in plastic wrap. All ordered items arriving at the same time.

I had a magnificent stay at the John Rutledge House Inn. It was fascinating to dwell in the very place where a draft of the Constitution was written and George Washington dined. I felt transported back in time. The decor of the inn is beautiful. I loved admiring the antique furnishings. One of the highlights of my stay was having afternoon tea in the parlor. The presentation of the tea was lovely. I also savored the breakfast. The food was delicious. My room was in beautiful condition. There was ample space. It was tastefully decorated. The fireplace was so charming. Although you felt immersed in a historic setting, you had access to modern amenities such as a mini refrigerator and an in-room safe. The staff attended to every detail. The concierge Jim was particularly helpful. He provided wonderful recommendations for exploring the city. I can't recommend the John Rutledge House Inn highly enough. It's truly worthy of praise.
