I usually stay here. It is an older property but very well maintained and always clean. It is quiet and I sleep well. They are renovating room by room. No refrigerator, no microwave. Close to Ocean Ave, the pier, 3rd street promenade. TV reception was intermittent this go round but that is not that important to me. More economical than the higher end places and comfortable. Secure parking.

The description says it has 2 bars, it does not. There was no fridge in the room, which is a bummer. The staff was excellent and beyond. The location is superb.
3.9
The location is great the only bad thing was the parking had to pay 38 dollars for valet
3.9
Stayed before was great. This time the room was above a literal night club so the bass was going strong into the weee hours not ideal if trying to sleep. Bed sounded and felt like it was going to fall apart.
3.9
Very load, people screaming in the hallway and a nightclub just underneath playing load music to 3 am.

Hotel Carmel is a great spot for a quick trip. It's an older building but they do well to keep it up. Will totally stay here again.

Great location. Friendly staff. Small, but clean rooms.
3.9
Everything was great - very accommodating and friendly staff

The hotel is old but the room is renovated and clean. The best of the hotel is close to the beach and a lot of restaurants nearby. Thk to the hotel for letting us early checkin.
3.9
This really was terrible. Hotel is undergoing renovation. Elevator out of service.I had international guests and 4th floor with no elevator. Contruction work generated oil fumes in the rooms that caused chest, eye and mouth irritations.
I am not one to complain but this really was terrible and not acceptable.

I booked this hotel as a historic hotel with a great location.
The room I booked was exactly as it was shown in the picture but it was facing an alley and had 2 bars close enuf that I was able to feel the base of the music until closing time. Yelling, screaming in the alley at all hours was typical and kept us from sleeping much at all. I was happy to be on the top floor and felt badly for others lower in the building that had to tolerate the noise and smells.
The HVAC system in the building was completely inconsequential - smells from other units were coming into our room thru a bathroom vent that seemed to have no draw to it and the smell of pot in the hallway coming under the door was disgusting.
many of the rooms had plastic over the doors as they were in a state of renovation - this was not noted on the hotel info when I reviewed it prior to booking.
The flooring in the hallways was grossly dirty.
We will not be back to this hotel but the Marriott Courtyard nearby looks real nice.
The Desk staff were pleasant and seemed competent with regards to checkin and checkout but until there are major changes to this place I would not refer friends to it.

Excellent location to walk around santa monica. Really cute place

Just a few steps from the pier!

Really great. Clean and nicely decorated. Beds were very comfortable. We were having problems with the TV -went down to front desk and asked for help-someone came within minutes. Very reasonably priced for the location- steps from the pier

Convinced

Very convenient to the beach. Room was nicely maintained and beds were comfortable. Air conditioning worked. Staff was pleasant and we were able to check in very early which was greatly appreciated.

Our stay was satisfactory. It's in a great location. The room stayed nice and cool which was nice. Would have been nice if the closet light would have had a switch to shut it off so it wasn't distracting throughout the night. The lobby smelled a bit like there had been a recent "plumbing issue". But other than that the stay was fine.

I was bummed they overbooked but so grateful when they made my original room booking happen anyway! I LOVED my room which was a double queen bed. I had room 411 which had a bathtub, coffee maker, large dresser and a refrigerator that they brought in upon request. I am so happy I saved money staying at this hotel as opposed to the ones with crowded pools and crowded restaurant. I felt much more comfortable at this hotel. I did not need any amenities because there is so much to do in walking distance. This is a great place to stay and afforded me to be able to enjoy my trip and do things. Thank you so much for the great price and cute/comfy/bright room. I am so thankful

Such a awesome area. Everything is in walking distance.

The lobby and room were nice (aesthetically). Other than that, it was a very disappointing stay. Especially for the cost. The woman in the lobby during the daytime wasn't friendly at all. The 2 young men in the evening were great though.
We were charged extra fees upon check-in for coffee pods and some mini bottles of water. The walls were paper thin and in addition to hearing doors slamming and the neighbor doing his business in the bathroom, we could hear sirens, alarms, traffic, and homeless people screaming outside all night long. Our TV didn't work so we couldn't even try to use that to drown out the excessive noises. Good luck sleeping. And the water pressure in the shower was ridiculously poor (on the 2nd floor), yet the water in the bathroom sink came out like a fire hose.
The bed was comfortable.

Great location to Promenade and the beach.

The location was great (though the entrance is on 2nd street not as listed), there were four pillows on each bed the mattresses were comfortable and the valet parking was super easy but this place really disappointed us. We booked through a third party with breakfast included which was $5 off at a local place - given a coffee was over 5$ each that want a great start. That was also only on our first day. The rooms are tiny, the walls are paper thin, no bathroom fan so everything was damp the whole stay. We had a herd of elephants above us and in the bathroom is a vent where you can hear everything going on next door and when the upstairs toilet flushes it sounds like youāre going to drown. The air con was rubbish - either icy blasts belting out or a luke warm trickle and the noise from the street was awful all day and night - didnāt feel like we had any windows for all the sound proofing they gave. The shower ran hot and cold whilst in it making it a lottery to use. Rooms taped off due to renovation and the whole place could really do with some TLC.

Old property. Water came out brown when we turned on the shower. Literally good for the convenience and the bed.
3.9
It was amazing location - 2 steps from pier, in downtown of Santa Monica, restaurants around. Staff was good, easy check in, check out. What was inconvenient no fridge and microwave in room.
3.9
It was a one night stay. The hotel was clean and the staff was very friendly! I liked the old time feel of the hotel.
3.9
The hotel was in a fantastic location. Staff were very obliging . The bed was very noisy( squeaky) also there was no cable tv.
3.9
Location attracted me but the noise is have been better off just sleeping in my car. Awake until 3am with bass music bar music and generators . Staff seemed fine but would advise against based on noise
3.9
The hotel is in a perfect location to explore Santa Monica. Close to beach, boardwalk, shops and dining.
Parking is next door in the public multi story lot and reasonably priced.
Hotel need some TLC but rooms are clean and well appointed
3.9
The staff was warm and accommodating. But the property was under construction, which had I known before I booked I would have elected to stay elsewhere.
3.9
The room was small. No fridge in room
3.9
No frig. Towels really bad.
3.9
No parkin
3.9
The hotel is OLDER and renovation was being done on one of the rooms down the hall from us.
You can hear all traffic outside. Cars, police sirens everything at night so dont expect a good night sleep. You can also hear all pedestrians talking and shouting.
Valet is available for a charge and you will not see your vehicle during your stay. There are many things in walking distance even the pier so that was great.
Elevator was small and stairs are available.
3.9
Was a very nice property, they had some renovations going on which is fineā¦ I feel like the property could use a little TLC but my overall stay was good! I would return.
3.9
Old fashion elevator. I don't think it's safe.
