Perfect spot just far enough outside the hustle and bustle of downtown.
1.5
The hotel room itself was quite good an sufficient. I am putting an extremely low score for service for a few reasons.
1. There was not enough communication before check-in on the self check-in procedure
2. The self check-in procedure was not smooth. Issues faced were:
a. Was not able to proceed with payment using Firefox mobile browser. Needed to switch to Chrome.
b. The lockers were not released, thus blocking me from selecting/booking a locker. I needed to call the remote receptionist and explain to them to release all previous bookings.
There was another hotel guest before us that had similar check-in problems. Actually everytime we came down to the lobby, there was someone that seemed to be struggling with the self check-in system. Please test and fix your system.

Location is very convenient.

First time at a self check-in hotel, so that was a little bit of an adjustment, but the directions were clear and it all worked fine. We enjoyed our stay. Room was quiet and clean. Hotel is easy to get to from the train station by tram 6 or 10 so you don't have to climb the hill with luggage.

It’s pleasantly charming! Bed is so comfortable and pillows! Staff went out of his way to help me with my luggage. Walking distance to the train station and Coop which is very convenient . Tram is in front of the hotel too.

Very nice room and easy self-check in. You need to walk up a long hill and then a short steep hill/stairs so maybe find other transportation than walking if you are exhausted from traveling or it’s hot. The only downfall was the air conditioner didn’t really stay on or cool the room, but that definitely could have been user error. There’s also a balcony and so you can open the door to cool down the room that way. Very friendly costumer service you can easily call and they will assist you if you need any help.

This hotel is not good. First of all, so tinny bathroom and not clean bed… Second, one light of the bed was unavailable. There was no staff in lobby, so you need check in and out yourself with iPad.

A DIY hotel very close to public trains and Zurich restaurants and other activities. Hotel was easily accessible and provided basic needs for an overnight sleepover for my daughter and I.

The response from the host was very timely and helpful! I would definitely stay again! However, there were more stairs entering the property than expected or described. This was a true inconvenience for limited mobility persons.

Self-check was a bit hassle, I should have done online check-in -before going to the hotel. The check-in instruction says somewhere that there is a tablet to do on-site check-in or phone number to call for help. But the tablet is inside of the building and you couldn't get into the building without online check-in in advance. Fortunately, a lady lived there let me in.
Overall cleanliness is okay. AC is extremely quiet and good. Safe worked fine. But minibar is not cold at all.
no free city pass given although Zurich city website says about it.
Location wise, it is close to Zurich HB but there are so many uphill steps to climb up. We had three wheeled suitcases. It was nightmare!
There are Tram 10 right in front of hotel to Airport.

Clean, downtown, lovely soundproofed rooms

A very well located hotel for the main restaurants by the river and for the excellent local trams - great place to spend a few days

There is intentionally no visible desk clerk or housekeeping staff. Check-in and entry to the hotel is all done by using electronic 'keys' that you download onto your smart phone. It was extremely quiet and clean -- I never heard another guest coming or going. There is an intercom outside the front entrance in case you can't figure out how to get in when you first arrive, and this helped me when I first arrived. The younger generation will 'get' the technology much quicker than my older brain did. I believe this is a good trend , because it requires fewer people to run the hotel and probably leaves a smaller climate 'footprint'.

I would definitely come back and stay when coming back to Zurich. Easy self check in.

Very good hotel, everything close by and tram stop right outside. Definitely recommend to others.

This is by far a whack ass hotel. It is a terrible place to stay. It is “contactless.” When get to the hotel, the front doors are locked. There are no employees. You must used the information emailed to you to then get through the front doors. After that, check yourself in (by yourself). Imagine going to a hotel and nobody is home. Don’t stay here, the room is nothing special for the price you pay. The inconvenience is not worth it.

Good location, but hope there are staff around during some hours.

The keyless option was very easy to use and was convenient so you wouldn’t lose your card keys!

Responsive staff answered what’s app messages within 5 minutes when I had a question and asked for more kleenex for the room. The access to the tram (essentially at the front door) was fantastic. Room was clean and comfortable. Would stay here again.

My first time to do a self check-in. It was easy and communication via what's app was very helpful. The hotel is modern and clean.

While self checkin, any issues handled quickly with call at reception area or via reservation contact phone to very friendly and helpful staff who also arranged an inexpensive taxi to get to airport. Spoke English well and delighted with kind and courteous help.

It was my first time in Switzerland , so given we’re staying only two nights in Zurich before moving on, tried to be economical. This Fred Hotel looked close to the station, but a good climb up hill. After a long transatlantic flight, should’ve known the Bus Route 10 could have made life so much easier! Ok, not this property is know for no lobby and being self check-in. That took a while getting the proper QR logged in and all docs provided. After that, it was a nice stay, good value, just a bit cramped in the bathroom. In a budget, excellent stay!

The room was spacious and modern. Located in the old town but somewhat away from the main areas although close to public transport options. It very clearly indicates self check in and there is no one onsite to assist - and not too responsive to emails either - I sent a request via the hotel.com platform and did not receive any answer. There are standard emails that are sent to you to provide guidance for self registration , locker service and access to keys but these are not sufficiently clear although there is an intercom at the hotel that will connect you to the service staff if you arrive when they are operating . The problem is perceive is that I don’t think the service staff was able to understand the actual details of how things work and explain it - and would give vague broad answers that was not specific enough to be helpful . Eg I was told I would receive key access via email but that is not really correct - one receives access upon check in and gets onto a website that shows a series of access that one operates by aliding some options - hard to explain - so they need to improve the description via images . When I finally got everything to work, it was all quite clever but had a spell of anxiety until I could figure it all out. I was happy with room and location - but gave a 4 star for this gap

Great location and self check in and access worked really well. Comfortable good room and bed. Would definitely return

The hotel is in a great location close to HB and on a tram/bus route. There are no staff on site and entry, check-in and check-out are done online. The room was clean and comfortable. I had a couple of maintenance issues which I contacted management about, and they were quick to reply, but not resolved, but I only stayed 1 night

The self check-in process did not work properly. First it required internet access which we did not have on our phones coming from Canada. There was wifi but the security requirements to get connected made it impossible to connect. It required that you receive a code by text to connect to the wifi. The next option was a card system that eventually worked. Then the site had three elevators and initially we wee told to go to the wrong eleator.

First people need to know to use the Tram from the train station. The walk involves hills and stairs, very hard with suitcases. Suggest you go to the Info Center in the train station before you head to the hotel. It was very helpful. You can book transportation and tours in the SBB office in the train station as well. The hotel is totally self serve, you communicate via WhatsApp, so very out of synch, not helpful. The room and bathroom were very nice with air conditioning. The Tram is just outside the door, so transportation was very easy.

Self check in was a nightmare! Other than that, everything was great!

I feel safe to stay in this hotel, no one can come in only the checked in person can open and lock the rooms by using their own phones as their keys

Terrific location with tram stop right at the doorstep. Very efficient self-service. Everything works. Would definitely stay again and recommend to friends.

Vacinity close to central station. I also liked the self service.

The location is great, main attractions in Zurich are walking distance from the hotel and the self check in is the best!

For booking last minute on a holiday weekend, I must say I was pleasantly surprised what I got for the rate. The pillows and bed could have been a little more comfortable and the room in general could have been a little bigger but again, for the rate, I found the bathroom very nice the room clean. I would book here again.

It’s was a nice stay. There are no staff there but you can call to another Fred hotel( at first we showed up there and it’s confusing to realize which hotel you booked ). We didn’t understand the idea of a big picture on the wall showing the huge fire in the house. Kind of weird.

The three Fred locations were a bit confusing but it was a lovely place when we found it! Not many restaurants close by. The university grounds made for a nice evening stroll.

Nice location, clean room. easy access from the airport by tram.
