Good location
Spacious room

The staff was excellent. The bar was top notch. Great breakfast. The beds are very comfortable. Nice place walk your dog. I would not recommend the Mexican restaurant. Just get wings or ribs from their menu.

Having discovered this hotel quite a few years ago I always try to book it if it’s available as it is quite superb.Great location and easy to find.Large free car park and always friendly reception staff, this time it was the charming Katerina who had a genuine persona and couldn’t have been more helpful.Very large room plus with added bonus of a bathtub.A nice welcome touch is the glass bottle of complimentary sparkling water.Saving the best comment for last, breakfast (most important meal of the day)You are spoilt for choice with the huge selection of hot and cold items. It is very rare in mainland Europe to get a good selection of hot cooked items for breakfast but perfectly prepared scrambled eggs, two types of sausages and bacon!! As a Englishman the only thing lacking was baked beans. The final nice touch is you are able to grab a takeaway coffee as you depart.Thank you to the owners, management and of course all the wonderful staff.

Very nice room, great breakfast!

Good stay and helpsom and servicminded personal. Very clean og good looking rooms.
Very satisfied with our stay.

Old hotel, no fresh things on the breakfast
4.2
Despite our average rating scores we enjoyed our stay. Room and furnishings old and tired but everything worked as it should. Big windows with great view. Some problems with housekeeping which was very limited and we had to ask. Very good breakfast and the evening restaurant meals were also enjoyable and not too expensive. We enjoyed being able to hire Brompton bikes. 5 minute walk to Aldi and nearest bus stop. 15 minute walk over into France. Plenty of parking and the location is probably more suited to those arriving by car. Some good outside space.

Perfect for one night.

Hotel is dated, but clean. Convenient location just of motorway, for a quick night stop when on the road and breakfast was good. Very friendly service and our big dog was welcome, thank you.

No phone in the room. Had trouble with the elevator.

We enjoyed our stay at the Carathotel, which was ideally located for access into Basel by tram, and well priced. The breakfast was excellent, a really good selection including gluten free bread and muffins. The hotel's mexican-style restaurant in the evening was also very good, again with gluten free options marked and very well priced. The hotel itself is a little tired given its age, but very well maintained and clean, and the bathroom particularly was well equipped, with great lighting and a bath. The hotel is actually in Germany, not Switzerland, which means that guests are not entitled to a Basel Tourist pass, however, the much lower price of the hotel rooms more than compensates for this. It is about at 10 minute walk to the tram station from the hotel and then only a 10 minute ride to Basel AltStadt. The hotel information stated that there was a shuttle to the airport, which is not the case, they simply book a taxi. We were told the cost would be no more than 35 euros, but it actually cost 45.

Staff in the hotel were great, breakfast was exceptional but the dinner at the restaurant was terrible.
4.2
Working in Basel so booked into a superior room on 9th floor. Very spacious with a table of 4 chairs so easy to work and have dinner. Fan included so no air conditioning unit but comfortable. Nice large windows so lots of breeze. Shower is high pressure so amazing to use and overall very comfortable.
Breakfast was continental and lots of options to choose from. Will defo book again!
Uber is difficult to call BUT taxi is available on demand at reception.
4.2
This hotel breakfast is good but the room facilities is too old and smell is bad
4.2
This is an older hotel with spacious rooms and bathrooms. It could do with some updating but the great included breakfast makes up for this. The Mexican restaurant looks interesting but didn’t have dinner.
4.2
the rooms were very good big enough and clean the hotel looks a bit old but comfy and receptionist Leon and George were very helpfull and friendly.
4.2
Very good cost / performance. Very kind staff, great breakfast, very easy to park, great access to Basel.

Elevator not working, bathroom sink not ok.

I don't have a problem when teavellers bring their pets with them. I DO have a problem when they are allowed at the restaurant: this is NOT hygienic and during our breakfast thete was a dog barking the whole time. Very disturbing! In Belgium it is against the law to bring a pet to the restaurant and this is how it should be!!! Compliments to Anke at the reception and to Roberto at the Hazienda restaurant! Also to the guy at the reception this morning. Unfortunately I don't know his name.

The manager Daniel could not do enough for you. The tv wasn’t working so I swapped the room and gave me a complimentary drink.

We had a wonderful stay in December of 2023. The bed was comfortable, room warm but had a standing fan for some circulation. Hotel staff very nice and helpful and the best part of all was the breakfast. By far our best hotel breakfast in a 16 day trip across 4 countries and 8 different hotels.
4.2
We had a best stay in Carathotel. Hotel staff and hotel is awesome. Breakfast is fantastic, rooms are spacious and it is very clean and sound proof.
Definitely I will stay again in this hotel.
4.2
Its not new but the bed was good i sleep well .

The Carathotel is like a trip back to the 1980s. Everything is original except maybe the television but the hotel is well maintained and everything is clean and everything works.
The breakfast that came with the room was particularly good. There were oranges and a station with a press for us to squeeze our own juice.
4.2
We chose this hotel as a stopever on our way to Italy, because it is conveniently located for our needs- easy to get to from the motorway, in an industrial/comercial estate, so you do not have to drive to the center of town. On top of that, it has an adequate parking for its size and is pet-friendly, which is a must for us, since we are travelling with our dog. The hotel itself is old, the interior is aged, but everything is spotlessly clean and the staff is absolutely friendly and caring. For those, who do not mind it, there might even be a certain cozyness in its age- I especially liked the somewhat ancient built-in radio in the bedside table, which reminded my of my childhood... Breakfast is, what for us made our stay a good one. There is a beautiful choice of bakery goods, as well as a huge selection of cold-cuts, cheeses and even their own homemade jams. On top of that you get salmon and a wonderful choice of warm food, like homemade mini meatballs. Staff in the breakfast-room is highly attentive and super caring. So if it is not for the room, stay there for the breakfast. We can only recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

Simple but comfortable hotel. Our room was spacious with a nice view and the breakfast buffet was great. The hotel also has a tex-mex restaurant if you don't feel like going out.
If you arrive by car there's a free parking and don't miss the very close-by and amazing Vitra campus.

We were very impressed by the cleanliness and the breakfast buffet. We had a room on the 9th floor so spacious and the view is awesome on the city of Basel.
4.2
A very pleasant stay and a lovely breakfast.

Just off the highway next to the border with Switzerland, this place may very well rename itself to Crystal. Really good stay, excellent breakfast and all the comfort for an affordable price. Would stay again!
4.2
Good hotel for the price. Comfortable bed. Good breakfast.
4.2
Fine airport hotel but they advertised having a shuttle and didn’t. Had to spend 40 euros for a 5 minute cab ride to catch a morning flight. The pint of an airport hotel is a place to crash that has a shuttle. Disappointing.
4.2
The staff and Breakfast was Great , parking very easy the rooms are very dated but ok for a one night stay
4.2
Very convenient location and great service
4.2
This is just about our favourite hotel. 4 times a year we travel between UK and Italy and it is perfectly placed for a stopover. It's positioning just on the Swiss border is convenient and we have always received service of the highest standard. The evening meal is excellent and the breakfast more than excellent. We have no hesitation in recommending the hotel wholeheartedly.
4.2
Good to stay with family

An old but very friendly Hotel. Fine breakfast
4.2
We stayed here for 3 nights. The room is very big, a little old but it’s okay. The staffs are very nice and friendly, feel comfortable to stay here. Good breakfast and parking spaces. Recommend to stay here if you want to explore Switzerland but not want to stay in Switzerland.
4.2
We booked the hotel because its name is Basel but it is not in Basel, the hotel is in German side, terrible location, very poor rooms.
