Hotel had minimal outdoor lighting - it was actually difficult to see the entrance when we arrived at the hotel to check in. Did not realize that the hotel was a bit dated- doors to outside had to be held open in order to get baggage cart in and out.
The room itself was large but again the furniture was dated and well used. The room had decent lighting.
The access to Main Street from second floor of hotel was a nice bonus. But proximity to Main Street on a Friday night resulted in loud music permeating the room until 2 AM. Small room heater/AC was not very accurate (again, maybe a bit outdated so difficult to control).

Hotel seemed to be ok. noisy
Cause of outside music. Not a horrible experience but the couch had the wrong cushions on it,
Didn’t match the couch. Blankets had some stains

Disappointed the pool was closed and the place is really getting run down. For the price over $250 and a premium room just not worth the value. Plus pull out bed was broken just really not well kept property. Staff was very friendly but hope the pool and property get a revamp.

The hotel is centrally located to Main Street and has direct access to many delicious food options. The staff at the hotel is very friendly, but the hotel is old and feels run down, smells like old wood, certain areas smell damp and dusty

The downstairs lobby is quite nice. Staff are friendly and quite good. The hallways are disgusting and dirty. A foul smell permeated the air. The hallway carpet is threadbare and dirty. It clearly has not been updated in 20 or 30 years. The parking lot is a disaster with multiple pot holes and suspension bottoming craters. The room was as clean as it could be given the age with well worn-out carpet and pealing wallpaper. The bathroom was clean but very outdated with a large tub to climb into for a shower. It was way overpriced for the over $200 charge in Oneonta.

When we arrived at the hotel we were told that after 8am there would be no electricity at the hotel.
We all as customers should have been told ahead of time and given the opportunity to accept the terms or cancel our reservation.
Had to walk down 2 flights of stairs with luggage no one could be found in the hotel to help.
Horrible experience

I was in the area for a family wedding. The church was down the street so we could have walked! The receptionist at The Marx was absolutely wonderful and friendly! Same in the morning! I met an employee in the elevator who was very helpful and friendly. She even took my key to return it.I will definitely stay at The Marx again! I highly recommend it! Thank you!

The property was outdated and gloomy. Not enough lighting inside and out.

Staff was awesome. The room walls were paper thin, you could hear every word the folks in the room next door were saying.

We had stains on our sheets. The room had a really weird/funny smell to it. The shower took forever to drain. There were cobwebs in the corners of the room. Dirt on the carpets like it was never vacuumed the closer you got to the wall. Just did not feel comfortable there whatsoever.

Room was large and well laid out. Didnt have to wait for hot water for shower. Beds were comfortable

The Marx Hotel has a good location in downtown Oneonta. The Internet was good. During my one-night stay, I found the hotel to be clean. The free breakfast was decent - a batter to make waffles, English muffins, scrambled eggs, sausage, yogurt and orange juice. The hotel needs to be refurbished, but I got what I expected for the price. So I was satisfied overall with my stay.

Shower was filthy; telephone didn't work so we couldn't get a wake up call. Breakfast was hot but quality was not good.

Hotel is located very close to SUNY Oneonta. It’s clean but outdated. Could use an update. Has the potential to be a really nice hotel in a great location

The price was too high for what they offer. There were many issues: the toilet in our room kept on clogging and overflowing with little use. When we entered the room for the first time it was already clogged and full of toilet paper. Yuk! Where was the cleaning person? We were on the fifth floor and are senior citizens, and the elevator broke down a number of times. Also, we put some food in the frig and it all froze solid(cucumbers, eggs, salad.) And the breakfast was limited. Again, for the price we expected a bit more. The employees were all very pleasant but the place needs to be fixed up and charge less. $270 from Expedia, should have been $100.
Positive: nice furniture

Hotel is very run down. Mold on shower curtain. Bedding only changed on request. Wallpaper peeling and carpet was old. Front desk people were friendly. Breakfast was decent. Air conditioning worked well.

Hotel is pretty run down. You could sprain your ankle in parking lot with all the pot holes. Hotel smells like moldy pool and smoke right when you walk in. Carpets are grungy. Beds uncomfortable. Food don’t bother.

I didnt have coffee in the room other than decaf. Went down stairs , he was more than willing to give me 4 bags. He also showed me where to grab a cup a coffee as well.
Very friendly and easy to get alone with.

This hotel was fine, but it needs a major renovation and update. We booked 2 queens on Expedia, but when we checked in they said the hotel doesn’t even have a 2 queen option, only 2 fulls or one king. The staff was very nice, I felt bad for them because they probably get a lot of complaints about the hotel. The location was convenient, downtown Oneonta is adorable.

Stayed just for a one night- stopping point for the Cooperstown Hall of Fame induction. There were no issues outside of being a bit over priced but I'm sure that was due to the event.

We where here due to my son participating in the Cooperstown All Star Village and it was a good stay. Close to the ballparks and restaurants nearby. The place can use a renovation but overall I would stay here again!
10.0 / 10.0
The hotel staff were very helpful and professional! The building was beautiful and probably was amazing in its heyday! Now the bar and dining are closed!
The parking lots many lights were all out and the parking lot itself was broken and uneven! Felt a little unsafe coming back to hotel late at night!
4.0 / 10.0
They need to change the rugs in the rooms. They just felt dirty and felt like I had to wear socks or flip flops while I was in my room. I went during the Hall of Fame induction so it was grossly overpriced. It was a place to sleep while my son was at Dreams Park. I would not choose this hotel again if we have the opportunity to go back unless it was the best price.
Overall it would be a decent place to stay for the right price.
The train woke my up a few times during the night.
