this is my 3rd stay at the State House Inn. It is clean, quiet and very convenient to where the action is in Springfield. i will always go back there when I need to stay in Springfield.

Small group staying for a week. Breakfast was not available on several mornings despite being included. Had to request room cleaning. Front desk was under staffed.
3.4
The front doors do not operate correctly. You have to open them manual.
The thermostat in my room #416 was smashed out. I took a photo went down to front desk to show the clerk (Cindy) on duty. She said, another one. Never offered to put me in a different room. To busy with her conversation on her cell phone.

I have stayed in this hotel before in the past, but this stay wasn't up to those standards. The linen had stains, the bed was uncomfortable and stained.
3.4
The hotel was in an area which is undergoing renovation to the surrounding street and building. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Quite interesting to see the chronology of renovations done on the hotel itself. Easy walking distance to state Capitol and short drive to all things Abraham Lincoln.

We had stayed in this hotel previously and the experience was fine, except for the lackluster breakfast. The location is great for accessing Springfield sites. This visit, our room was without a closest so there was a somewhat rickety home-use quality type rolling rack for hanging clothes positioned in front of the windows. There weren't any hangers for coats, etc. The iron was sitting on the floor and the ironing board was propped against the wall. The entry ceiling light was out so the bathroom light was the only option. I used the lobby restroom in the evening and two of the four lights were out. I noticed a sign apologizing for no breakfast that morning. The next morning, the breakfast room was open but there were few options. The very nice woman working the space said the food delivery hadn't been made which was apparently the excuse the day before. She basically brought out everything they had on hand. The renovation photos hanging in the lobby are kind of ironic at this point, too. We understand there are new owners. Hopefully they have plans to update and take advantage of the great location and what the place could be.

Enjoyed my stay. The room was nice and clean. Seems understaffed like most places these days. Front desk needed help. I noticed no breakfast was served either day. Maybe take that off the room amenities.
3.4
Staff was very rude when checking in. I had to go to the desk 3 times for the room keys to be replaced, lost being especially pillows.crappy free breakfast. That should be enough.

No staff, no restaurant, no bar, empty Snack shop, no bottled water, It was a bed and that’s it
Staff for major events like Route 66, it’s the same disappoint year after year

One of our biggest reasons for staying here was that breakfast was offered. We did not get the advertised free breakfast. And most guest had to wait 10-15 minutes before anyone would help them at the front desk.
We have stayed here numerous years during the annual Route 66 Mother Road Festival. Due to the free breakfast and the close proximity to the festical. It has gradually went down hill every year. This will be our last time staying.

The 1st day there was no breakfast, the 2nd day they breakfast was pittiful. The waffle irons were off with no mix. There were croissants, 3 pieces of french toast sticks, biscuits, and cereal. We reserve rooms at hotels that provide breakfast and this one made it sound like they had a big breakfast buffet(i review their company site too before reserving). Most of what they say they have, they do not. This hotel could be amazing, but i think most of the staff doesnt want to do anything. We had 1 front desk lady that was amazing. All the others were rude and acted like they were bothered by guests asking them questions or needing something.

Not sure if I left to early Thursday but there was no breakfast one of the main reasons I select this hotel.

Also a smooth transaction

The hotels day has come and gone. It’s a solid affordable pet friendly place to stay but it’s fraying around the edges. My room had obvious water damage and the toilet constantly ran and the air wouldn’t actually get cooler than 73 despite the thermostat saying it was. That said, it’s in a decent location relative to the capitol, parking is free, breakfast is included and the rooms are decent size.

HVAC did not work, and hotel staff knew but front desk still put us in the room. Maintenance personnel were unable to repair and did not fully understand the problem with HVAC (I was better able to diagnose than he was). Toilet was loose on base. Bath soap was in odd plastic containers instead of standard options. Overall felt like a very sub-par hotel property, and would not stay here again.

Springfield, Illinois doesn't get enough attention regarding the architecture one will see in the downtown area. The futuristic art deco extends itself to this property. This hotel is a tribute to the 60s and the era of the grand hotel. However this property is no museum piece. The rooms have been updated and are spacious. It's clean and you won't find easier parking in Springfield. With that said it is a very large property and with that do come the occasional trappings of maintaining all that. There were some issues with getting into my room because if a low battery on the door lock. I was also charged twenty dollars more than the Expedia price but as if writing have not had a chance to look into a resolution. Even so I would stay there again and would even take my family there. I wish the best to the owners in there continued efforts to keep a grand lady going.

Everything was very clean and fresh. A really nice mid century modern hotel.

Disappoiting stay. Arrived at 5.30pm and room was not ready despite check in being earlier.
Rooms in dire need of updating. Sofa bed uncomfortable. Complimentary breakfast non existent despite arriving at a reasonable time. Advised the staff but no extra items brought out. No one seemed to care or to be running the place. Definately not worth the price paid. Avoid this hotel and spend your money elsewhere. Intetestingly there was information on the walls of the hotel suggesting it had been restored, not sure where or when??!

Great hotel. Very spacious rooms and kind staff. Very clean and had a huge pool and free breakfast. Will definitely be returning.

Not able to truly rate hotel, as far as room, services, etc...
Had made reservation several months prior and had confirmed the day prior to arrival, only to get there and have no room. Several other parties in lobby were experiencing the same issue. Had to find last minute accommodations on the way to our event.
Staff seemed very overwhelmed at the situation -whatever that might have been.

When we arrived at 3 PM per check-in, we weren’t able to check into our seven rooms until 8 PM. The hotel was being run by homeless people and this place was extremely unorganized and a big letdown for our $5000 room booking. We would never consider staying here again or should anybody else

Seemed like they’re understaffed

Very disappointed in this hotel. We arrived 2 hours after check in and they did not have a room for us. The front desk person disappeared and a line of people waiting. Couldn’t get anyone on the phone. I will not recommend this hotel to anyone. Terrible customer service.

Check in was at 3 pm I arrived at 5 pm the room was not ready they said no housekeepers showed up and there was 5 rooms ahead of me that need to be cleaned and they would text when ready . I went back at 10 pm cause I didn’t receive a text they said no one came to clean they have no rooms

Got to hotel at 6pm to a large line of folks who’d been waiting to check in since 4x rooms were not ready. The woman behind the front desk was trying her best but it seems to be a management issue. Got into room by 7 and was awakened most of the evening by loud people on my floor and others.
3.4
I had locked myself out of my room on accident, and waited in the lobby during prime check-out hours (Approximately 7:20-7:45AM) to get another key because there were literally no staff working. The manager eventually came and issued a new key without verifying my identity first. Not an ideal place to stay for a woman traveling alone.

The front desk lady was very sweet, however our check in time was supposed to be at 3:00. we arrived at 3:40 and our room wasn't ready yet no big deal we went and grabbed some dinner, came back an hour later and the room still wasn't ready. we finally got in our room around 5-5:30. no hand soap. stained towels, bed was broken and slanted on one side. breakfast was okay, not a lot of options but we woke up late so partially our fault. like i said staff was very friendly, but EVERYONEs rooms were late being ready. it's ridiculous the amount of people having to wait to check in. i understand short staffing, i just honestly was disappointed in the rooms and the cleanliness especially after waiting forever to check in.
3.4
This hotel had horrible service. We came to check in at 3pm and was told that our room was not clean and they didn’t have an estimated time when our room would be ready because the whole cleaning crew called off and only had 1 cleaning lady for the whole hotel ! We had to wait an additional 3hrs till we finally got a “clean room”
When we got into our room it smelled so bad, there was hair on the toilet, the shower wasn’t clean, and we didn’t even have a fitted sheet on our bed. The floor was also dirty.
Luckily the front desk lady was understanding and gave us a refund but I would definitely not be coming back nor would I recommend this place to anyone else.

We came an hour after check in time to our hotel. We were told that they had housekeeping worker shortage and there was a delay in being able to access our room. It took 2 hours to be able to get into our room.
It seems as though they rushed opening to get business. Walls are thin. Overall our experience was average, but not being able to access the room made us very behind on our planned events while visiting the area.

Aug 10th, 2024 - Got to the hotel about 2pm, check in was at 3pm. In my many experiences of staying at hotels, I've always been able to check-in early if the room is clean or at least get through the registration process if the room is not ready but the woman behind the counter when we arrived was very rude and cold, she did not greet us and simply said "Check-in is not until 3, you cannot Check-in until 3". Several other hotel guests were arriving shortly after us and were getting the same rude treatment. One guest had mentioned they called the hotel prior to leaving their home and asked if they could Check-in early and were told 'yes'. Once the woman left the counter a man took over at 2:30. I would use their names but no one wore name tags. I asked him if we had to wait till 3 or we could register now and at least wait for the room since there were so many people going to be checking in at 3. He was very kind, polite and even made jokes with us & was able to check us into our rooms. We were lucky, met a couple later who reserved a room but were told they ran out of rooms! Why make a reservation? SMH!
The room was fine but there were 3 bottles of conditioner left out (no shampoo,no lotion) and no hand soap. Went down to the front desk and asked for soap and they could not find any so I had to resort to using the body wash to wash my hands. I think something as simple as having soap is one priority a hotel should have, so many people, so many germs!

Ok

Air did not work in the either room they wanted us to stay in

Arrived 1 hour before check in. Stood in line for 45 minutes. When I finally got to the employee at 3:15 after check in time. He tells me no rooms are available for another hour and a half. That is completely unacceptable.

It was during the Illinois state fair so everything in town was booked solid. They were short staffed but were trying to accommodate everyone at check in. It was a Saturday evening. They compensated everyone by opening up the hotel bar and allowing all those staying over 21 years of age free drinks while they waited for their room to be finished up. Check in was later than expected but all staff were very kind and working very hard to get all the rooms finished up. The general manager was working the front desk and apologized to everyone for the wait. Check in was supposed to start at 3 but all rooms weren’t ready until around 5pm. They would notify you as soon as your room was ready and get you your room keys. The staff there were seriously super heroes cleaning those rooms as fast as they were. Our room was clean and comfortable upon arriving. The whole facility was nice and staff were very pleasant and always had a smile on their faces even when other people were being rude for the small inconvenience of a slightly later check in than expected. Would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family. We had the king suite on the 6th floor and it was very spacious. Loved that the bedroom had a door separating it from the living room area. My daughter felt like she had her own personal room and so did we. Shower had lots of hot water and the pressure was fantastic!

Great location and that it was close to everything.

No rooms were clean at check in, only Cindy at the desk who was was the only person there. Cleaning staff showed up 30-45 minutes later to clean all the dirty rooms from a full weekend. We got into our room over an hour later. During our wait, two other couples came to check in and one left after going upstairs to find staff and found the hallway a disaster. Cindy organized and got us to our clean room. Thanks to Cindy our stay was tolerable.

Was forced to cancel my reservations due to the rooms, not being ready until nearly 7 o’clock that evening because of this i had to buy a last-minute room at Another establishment at double the price

We arrived for check in at 3pm to a.long line of people trying to do the same. There was 1 manager doing check in and every person there was told the same thing...no rooms are ready for.check in as they are short staffed. We proceeded to wait for 3 1/2 hours so we could get a room, which ended up not being the suite we wanted and reserved. We flew in to go to a concert with family so didnt have anywhere to go in the meantime. After getting a much smaller room we dropped our stuff off and were thoroughly disappointed in the room as it was still filthy, but we didnt want to be late for our event so we just dealt with it. I will not return to this disaster of a motel and was irritated by the cost of this gross room. Shame on you for over booking if you dont have the staff!!

We have stayed here before, so we were excited to here again. We intentionally arrived late to avoid the crowd . We arrived at 7pm. The room was not ready . Check in was at 3pm. We didn't get to our room until 9pm . They do have a bar and they offered free wine for the pain. Front desk was apologetic. The breakfast wasnt too my liking and no waffles were available for both days of our stay. Milk was sour and cereal was stale . They should change their coffee at the front desk throughout the day. Rooms with double beds dont have a microwave. The elevator moves fast. Hotel decor is decent. It served it purpose . Convenient location and walking distance to local eateries and the Lincoln museum.
