Friendly staff, lovely pool, great breakfast options. Had a great stay. Only one small fault, poor toiletries in room. No shampoo, conditioner or body lotion.

The Hotel Astoria is in a great location facing the lake on Corso Umberto I and within a few minutes walking distance of Stresa's centre. We didn't have a lake view room but the room was spacious and comfortable. Unfortunately, the shower cubicle was not watertight and it flooded the bathroom floor. Breakfast was very good, plenty of choice and fresh fruit was available. Staff were pleasant and attentive.

Stunning view at breakfast. Thought I was getting a lake view room and was disappointed in that.

Great views, the hotel has seen better days but overall very clean and pleasant place. However, We were shocked to see our luggage stored in the middle of the corridor where guests and outsiders had full access to it, without proper supervision. We left the luggage after checkout in their care and fully trusted them to keep it properly safe. No one reacted when we picked up our luggage from the busy corridor. Just by luck nothing was stolen. This is the first time I’ve seen such carelessness, definitely not the standard.

Old world charm, traditional , very good breakfast . Building work may affect Annexe rooms . We had corner ' side' lake view, stunning view. Bathroom clean, quirky, old fashioned, so dont expect modern fittings. Hotel caters for older clientele.

Twin bed’s were small & uncomfortable. Pillows were very uncomfortable. I asked about a room change for larger beds but was told that all the beds were the same except for the junior suites. The hotel was full for the time we were there.
Convenient, short walk to main restaurants/shops.
Nice breakfast.

My wife and I made an impromptu detour to Lake Maggiore, and booked the Astoria sight unseen. It was the most amazing place, we chose the lake view room, and we were treated to amazing service and more amazing views!
The walking from the hotel to the old downtown area with access to restaurants and bars is less than 10 minutes away.

We arrived on a late rainy night at Stresa train station and were unable to get a taxi. I called the hotel who sent Leonardo to pick us up. The station is a 5 minute easy walk to the hotel and any other day we would have done it. We had a lovely room overlooking the lake and the staff were always helpful. Will return!

Great location; a little dated but clean.

We were not expecting this beautiful hotel directly across the street from the lake. The place was out of a different era and provided a very memorable experience.

Employees, especially waiters were very rude and unhelpful. They acted snooty and that the customers were an imposition. I will never come here again. We were not dressed fancy but I could buy the hotel if I wanted.

All was good, just wish parking would be easier, very small parking spaces for a lot of cars

This was our a wind stay here - both in Junior Suites - one on the top floor, this time the third floor.
Overall decor is extremely dated but clean and nice. If you want a junior suite - the top floor are bigger and quieter but have old fashioned bathrooms. The one on the third floor is noisier and smaller but has a beautiful modern bathroom. Swings and roundabouts I guess.
Have to say the staff were much friendlier on our ealeilwe visit - this time didn’t seem to have time for guests which was odd.
Restaurant service and food is excellent. O

Fantastic true Italian experience & the ice cream is to die for 👍😇
1.5 / 5.0
Positives - good location and spectacular views from the balcony. Negatives - dated, faded 'luxury' and very poor customer service - customers appeared to be viewed as an inconvenience. No iron in the room or available at all (against hotel policy apparently). Parking is a pain and involved asking to put the car in a lift to under the hotel and asking to get it out every time.

Staff really don’t care about the guests, unhelpful and no information readily available. Hotel is in dire need of a total refurbishment as there are plenty of hotels nearby that are much better.

On hotel reviews and photo they published photos for refurbished rooms, far from reality…

The hotel was very clean, staff were friendly and efficient, Erica handled by booking requirements prior to arrival by email promptly. We only stayed for three nights, but would be happy to stay again, location is perfect, on the lake front within easy walking distance to the ferry station and the old town, a maze of shops and restaurants and Piazza`s, some with live entertainment.
We eat in the Hotel the first night and was very impressed with the selection and quality of the food, but with so many restaurants nearby, and with the Italian buzz you get I would recommend eating out. Breakfast was OK with a good selection, but I don't tend to have a cooked breakfast so can only comment on the cold buffet. One compliant, the Milk supplied is UHT long life, I would have expected fresh milk. There is a bar area for drinks, but the cocktail list is very small. I recommend a lake view room, and would request on as high up as possible for the best reviews. You will have sun all morning and cooling shade in the afternoon. The rooms have had a substantial upgrade. Another improvement though would be more toiletries supplied, with only small bottles of bath wash and shampoo supplied.
Overall a nice hotel for a few days stay, and good value for money.

Nice hotel in a good location, with easy access to ferries around the lake and local restaurants. We had a lake view room which had lovely views across the lake. There is a road that runs between the lake and hotel, which is busy a lot of the time. However, this was not a problem and didn't keep us awake. The window shutters blocked out any noise and light.
There was plenty of choice of food at breakfast with beautiful views across the lake.
We enjoyed a lovely relaxing stay and would rebook the hotel again

the hotel was located in a great area/town with plenty of good restaurants and many boat trips in walking distance. The reception area, dining room, bar and pool area were in good condition with a 'grand feel' it. The pool was only completed last year and had adequate sunloungers and parasols.
The staff were helpful and generally pleasant, although info on both the hotel and surrounding area was limited and you had to ask. There was no hot tub as the hotel web site suggested, and the gym was hidden away on the roof top along with a run down seating area. The biggest disappointment was the rooms, which were 'tired' and uninspiring, unlike the rest of the hotel. Worse of all the beds were rock hard, and whilst extra pillows were provided these were flat and very uncomfortable. In our bathroom (room 414) the toilet was squeezed into a recess behind the door, and the shower very difficult to control (easy to knock it and turn off, up or down). The aircon was adequate and the balcony had a reasonable partial sea view, although traffic noise was a bit annoying.
Overal we enjoyed our stay, but i suggest the rooms need a makeover, and certainly replace the mattresses.

Very nice and reasonably priced Third generation family ownership and management And it shows in the best ways. Very close and convenient to all things Stresa Completely enjoyed our stay

We had a flood in our room, which leaked into the middle of the room through the frame on our llocked glass patio door during a heavy rain. The hotel provided multiple towels strewn throughout the room as a result. The next day the manager or owner was rude when we complained.
Unhappy experience, rude management!

The hotel Astoria was amazing. We loved the amenities and the treatment from the staff. The only issue we had was with the bedding which could use some updating and the interior walls are lacking in adequate sound insulation We would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone wishing to stay there.

It was very convenient as it’s very nearby to the train station. Staff especially the lady on the reception was very helpful and cheerful. It’s ideally situated on the lake side and near the main eating places. Will go back again. Room had everything I needed.
