The staff is very friendly the room could be cleaner. The food I had on my last night as phenomenal. Well done to the chef.

A very "posh" looking building and equally so inside. The room was basic but large as was the bathroom yet in need of a few touch ups.
Comfortable and clean.

Great central location and reasonably priced hotel. Staff very helpful and friendly. The hotel was obviously very grand in the past, and still looks impressive but is in need of some modernisation. I’d certainly stop here again

All members of staff from reception to service in the dining room were very friendly and good at their job.
The meals and service in the dining room were excellent!
The hotel has wonderful Victorian features and charactor.
Location of this hotel is especially good for access to the cliff funicular giving easy access to the promenade.

Hotel is very tired and in poor condition. Mould on bathroom ceiling and food not great albeit is designed for retired residents.
The most annoying thing is I booked this hotel as it advertised car parking, it doesn’t, car parking is down the road (if available) at a charge of £8 per day. Hotels should not say they have car parking if they don’t. I have to carry work equipment in my car and don’t want to leave it parked on the side of a public road.

Bedroom nice and clean and spacious. The lift up to the fifth floor was dirty and small and horrible

It was clean and adequate for what we wanted and very reasonably priced.

Hotel was nice, although the room was a bit dusty and the mattress was like a brick. Helpful on reception and great location.

If I had been told by hotels.com about the charges and difficulty with parking around The Royal Hotel Scarborough, I would not have booked at that Hotel. As it happens we sorted an alternative parking place but it would not have suited visitors who have difficulty walking. The Hotel and Staff were excellent.

This was our second visit to Scarborough. The first time we stayed at the bike and boot. The royal is better In so many ways, at half the price!! We will definitely be staying here again next visit. Staff were great, food excellent and rooms were perfect for us. Highly recommend!!

Checkin was easy and friendly, pleasantly surprised with the room , seems newly renovated by slightly spoiled by the curtains wh8ch seemed to be old , they were poorly hung abd didnt close properly, lovely quality towels changed every day, quality bedding , plenty of tea and coffee in the room and freely available on request from reception, one issue with room which was quickly resolved and to our satisfaction, food was lovely , no complaints at all , all staff were hard working and very pleasant, grand old building, enjoyed every minute, we will be back

Hotel is in dire structural condition. Windows do not open far because frames are rotting so room was uncomfortably airless.
Corners need cleaning properly.
Electricity supply unsafe. We turned on the coffee machine and all the sockets blew..
Wi-Fi in room cost £7 per device per night - scandalous!
Breakfast offered tinned fruit (no fresh), overcooked hot food and sliced bread.
Bar closes too early. Nobody wiped the tables during the course of the evening.

very very average. Was a nice building but quite dated. No heating in rooms. Was offered a portable heater but it never arrived (to be fair, I never chased it up.)
Not a bad hotel but not great for the price.

My wife and I had a great three night stay at The Royal. It was great value for money, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good. Our bed was huge and comfortable but the room and furnishings were somewhat dated but this did not detract from our stay. The position of the hotel overlooking the beach and close to town is great. Will look forward to staying there again. Many thanks

Wonderful holiday at the Royal hotel, definitely one the best Britannia hotels. Lovely stay.

The staff were very helpful and I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the room. It was very comfortable.
The cleaning could use a bit more attention- there was mildew in the shower and tissues behind the nightstand for example.
It was slightly annoying that the wifi in the room needed to be paid for- at £7 per device it wasn’t really worth it for two nights, but there was free wifi in public areas.
Overall it was fairly nice, it just needed a bit of updating and attention.

Nice room

Standard double room was definitely smaller than the listing would have you believe, not worth the £150 that it cost, also charging £7 per day for WiFi? Is this 2010? Not to mention the giant inconvenient bar attached to the key.
Would probably be better off at the nearby travelodge or Premier Inn

Clean but tired hotel. Twin room only 1 bath towel and a coffee machine that didn’t work. One lift that was not working. Just felt like it needed some love.

I did not dislike the hotel, it is in a good location, convenient to all amenities and services in the town centre.
The hotel itself is dated and tired, the ground floor rooms are in reasonalable repair, and comfortable. the bedrooms, and I can only comment on the room I stayed in, was in need of a major upgrade to be more inline with the tariff charged.
1.0 / 5.0
Very dated and in need of a good facelift and a good clean.
No car park swimming pool closed
Room tiny and dated
Britannia hotel wouldn’t have booked if I had known

Clean and tidy but has that faded glamour of past glories needs a refurbishment - breakfast brilliant unlike so many hotels the chef knows how to deliver eggs with a runny middle - too many kids making too much noise running around unchecked not a place if you like a bit of quiet - staff at reception really helpful some patrons not so pleasant

No room wifi.
No tv service even though the tv was mounted on a wall.
Tiny single beds
Noisy room
Expensive for what we got.
View consisted of looking out to walls. No view at all

Upon entering the hotel it is rather grand and beautiful, apart from the tacky flashing bush things in the porchway lol. The rooms are rather different beds are uncomfortable and dated myself and my wife asked for a double room , but found it was two single beds pushed together utter rubbish.Bathroom looked like someone had dyed there hair and the cleaner couldnt reach the splatters , cracked floor tile watch your feet. Noisy drunk neighbours knocked on our door at 1am. Enjoy your stay .

Lovely visit again

The Hotel has a classic design and the entrance hall is amazing.
Only interaction with staff was one minute to check in very smooth.
Very quiet and clean hotel.
Only issue was room, very cramped small and too much furniture.
A worry was the number of 4 so ket extension leads at least 3 and one plugged into another, not sure how safe this actually is.
Room was very warm (though was hot outside) but fan did nothing.
TV no signal.
I would stay again but with slightly lowered expectations

Lovely hotel, we’ve stayed before and the room we had was stunning. This stay was a basic room but very clean and tidy. The only downfall was the bed, it was very uncomfortable and you could feel every spring. We would stay again however, as it’s reasonably priced and in a great location.
