The hotel is lovely. Excellent location, staff are really lovely and helpful. Unfortunately it does need a complete refurbishment. It is very tired and dated. It has the potential to be a fantastic hotel if the above is carried out.
2.5
Charming seaside hotel with a nice bar and restaurant
5.0
We stayed one night in a family room, which was much nicer than the photos! Very spacious with comfy beds and a modern bathroom. It was sufficiently clean and the tea/coffee station was well stocked. One little niggle is that the room is rather warm so the duvets were a bit heavy for summer, but we managed. We would absolutely return!

Fantastic hotel at fantastic location. Very friendly staff. Would stay again

The staff at The Royal are always good. The rooms are a little dated but exceptionally clean - lovely bedding!
The issue is the breakfast. Nice choice of fruit, juice etc. but the cooked breakfast leaves a bit to be desired! Fake watery baked beans, poor quality sausage, precooked mushrooms and tomatoes. They weren’t so busy that they have to precook to the extent that they do.
The breakfast is the reason we don’t stay there very often - and we visit Deal about 10 times a year!

Room was very spacious but not very clean at all, bath panel was rotting, windows were in bad condition and the decor needs updating. Had to walk up 3 flights of stairs which is fine but the stairs were uneven (slanted down to oneside) so for health & safety reasons - very poor. Staff were lovely and the positioning of the hotel was fantastic.

Beautiful views out to sea

Great sized family room. Beds were comfy and big enough including the bunk beds. Part sea view with great facilities in the room. Lacked an iron or hairdryer but I believe these were available on request
5.0
No free parking and parking is expensive even in the car park right infront of the hotel.
Beautiful rooms in a lovely position on the sea front.

Dan is a great host. Told us all about the hotel, area and made a ton of suggestions on what to see. The restaurant was solid for breakfast and dinner. Good options for vegans - burger, lentil salad and a few other options for dinner. Full English vegan for breakfast. Right in town - walk to a castle and the pier in minutes.

Very comfotable and friendly.

Fantastic room with sea view and balcony. Some areas a bit tired but this didn’t spoil our stay.

Super location on the beach. Very good restaurant. Carpets in bedrooms and stairs could do with replacement

We stayed at this hotel for just one night. It was perfect for our family of 5. It was clean and bed was comfortable. The complementary breakfast was absolutely AMAZING. I'd go back just for the breakfast! The reason for the 4 stars is that the hotel itself is very dated. My family would prefer more modern accommodations, but I thought it had character and charm.

Right on the water. Really lovely room

A lovely room with sea view. Simple but comfortable accommodation, good value.

Was a bit disappointed with the hotel. We had the disabled room which we were surprised at. No hot water in the shower in the afternoon Felt that the room and parts off the hotel were very tired, old and a lot off the paint work and radiators dirty. Food was good and staff were friendly.

The hotel is lovely . The room we booked was large , very clean and overlooked the sea . Excellent rooms . But the service was less than impressive . The lady who served us at breakfast was friendly , but rather curt . Gave us the feeling she didn’t want us there and so breakfast was normally very rushed - eat and run !

Very helpful friendly staff

We stayed as golfing nearby. Excellent hotel one of the best in the area. Would definitely recommend.

Fabulous friendly staff we were really looked after, lovely room and fantastic breakfast, definitely want to visit again very soon.

The room was very nice and the location was excellent. The breakfast was very average. The WiFi was virtually nonexistent. They need to invest in proper WiFi. For that reason we would not stay there again, especially as it was expensive.

All the staff were excellent and carried out there jobs with a smile and caring attitude.

Just a curious and wonderful place of a hotel

Excellent location but room was a little run down could do with a makeover.
2.5
Spacious rooms with comfortable bed. Large fluffy towels in a good sized bathroom with a shower with plenty of power.
Fantastic tasty breakfast with plenty of choice.
Definitely value for money in a lovely location.

Very clean but dated. Really comfy bed. Food was very good. Most of the staff were lovely, though the receptionist could do with customer service training. My main issue is, having booked following a search for dog-friendly hotels, the £20 fee imposed on my tiny, well-behaved dog on check-in struck me as excessive.

Always a pleasant stay, stylish and traditonal.
It is a old hotel, so you can hear the creaking floor boards of others, but it is nice..

Doesn’t get more central. Of course old building so has its quirks and indeed charm. Stay top floor which was quiet. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast could ask for a bit more but ok. Perfect location for exploring town and hikes (Kingstown and Sandwich).

On arrival we were informed the hotel was under-staffed & our room wouldn't be ready for another hour.
Our room & the entire hotel was incredibly hot although thoughtfully a fan was provided in our room. The heating system was outside our room & was very loud. We also had people above us who were running/stamping in their room until gone midnight. We had to ask them to stop.
Breakfast was excellent on the first day but the next day we waited 45 minutes for our food to be served & the supplies of juices & croissants was empty for a while.
The hotel is very cosy & conveniently situated. It was always busy with a lot of non-residents & service was slow.
Extra complimentary supplies were provided immediately upon request by the cleaning staff. All staff were friendly but very busy.
It would be good if parking at the hotel could be reserved for residents.
We enjoyed our stay but felt the price didn't reflect the value of the service & accommodation.
We would rate the hotel 6 out of 10.

We found the stay a bit of a mixed bag. The team were friendly and helpful and the room with a sea view was very nice. But there were a few things that let the place down. The shower was poor, flitting between scolding hot and cold with no power. The dining room was cold and we found the food from breakfast to evening dinner to be of poor quality. The food did not feel very fresh or of great quality for example the berries on the pancakes looked like they were frozen not fresh, the sausage in the cooked breakfast was the quality you would expect from a greasy spoon and the salad served with the steak was a lump of rocket with no dressing. It's a beautiful location and a nice space but we felt that it was probably suffering from being part of a chain and not focussing on having a top chef and great quality, fresh food.

This hotel was fantastic, with friendly, helpful staff, and a great location right by the sea. We very much enjoyed our spacious family room, with superb views, and loads of coffee, tea, hot cocoa, and biscuits as an added special touch. Lots of cozy corners in the hotel to relax and enjoy a drink or just hang out. Lovely dinner and breakfast at the restaurant as well. Highly recommend.

Lovely stay in William Pitt room great breakfast friendly staff . One small note you need a recreation room for cleaning staff as were all waiting outside the rooms to get in and clean but were sitting and standing in the stairway on their phones and chatting but was quite off putting when stepping out of the room they need somewhere to sit whilst waiting to start their work . Kind regards but a lovely stay

Very good stay with excellent staff but the food that we ordered at dinner was very disappointing.

Stayed in the Wellington suite, which was fabulous. Breakfast served to the room. The food was tasty but the full English rather small. Staff ok, not the warmest welcome.

We had a lovely time it was let down by the breakfast on the fourth day (Sunday19th Nov) served mouldy raspberries and the lady serving didn’t even offer an apology.

A beautiful and understated hotel on Deal beach with a lovely bar, lots of history, clean, friendly staff, right near the pier & dog friendly. Superb place and I'll be returning for sure.
