Historic building on large land adjoining mouth of river. Opportunities to take leisurely walks, go on Penguin Night Tour, fishing, dipping feet in water and relax. Communication via email. Key pick up and drop off via a key box. Guests to wash dishes and empty bin before leaving. Comfortable enough stay, four separate rooms which are very soundproof with the thick walls, the temperature inside was cool during the day and warm at night, which was perfect, the mattress was firm.
A few small maintenance issues- Kitchen tap needs tightening under sink, flaking paint or surfaces were painted over uneven/flaking paint, brown water stains along and under window and on heater in bathroom, cracked counter top behind hot plate, chipped laminate top on kitchen table.
The conservation of these historic buildings deserve to be treated with loving care to honour their historic integrity, they also deserve considered interior fixtures, fittings and design that embraces and enhances their beauty.

Spending a couple of days in a historic cottage was fantastic, the modern inclusions a bonus.
We stayed in one of the Boatman’s cottages constructed in 1860 which features a separate bedroom, lounge, dining room/kitchen and bathroom, the gas fire in the lounge kept us toasty warm as did the wall heaters in bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom. The whole precinct was a joy to stay in as was the surrounding village of Low Head. The on site cafe had very good meals. We loved the ability to order a heat and serve pre-prepared meal which was waiting in the cottage for us, we ordered the Moroccan Lamb Tagine which was succulent and delicious.
Would definitely stay again.

We have wanted to stay here for some time and it didn’t disappoint. The cottage was excellent all bar the couch was uncomfortable but this was a small inconvenience. The setting was fabulous.

Beautiful Queenslander with amazing history and sweeping views. Anita was fabulous to deal with.

We absolutely loved how different and unusual staying at a light house was. The wildlife were gorgeous and having the beach right at our backdoor was awesome. Anita was easy to contact at all times. I have already been asked by a few people how they can stay there. Thanks for an amazing 3 days. Krissy,Nat and Julie!

Each cottage was unique. Clean, tidy, & filled with normal household/kitchen items. Close to penguin parade, nice walking/riding tracks.
Would have loved to try cafe out a few more times, but closed on Tuesday/Wednesday. This is not a criticism, just bad timing on our part.

A beautiful location in an historic building, close to a penguin colony. We loved it!

Spent two nights in the‘Boatman West’ cottage, during our trip around Tasmania. The accommodation is rustic but quite comfortable. This cottage boasts a free standing bath which is wonderful. We were able to cook in the well stocked kitchen. The area is quiet and perfect for walks and bike rides. There is a coffee shop/cafe on the site, and also a maritime museum. Georgetown is only a 10 minute drive away where you can get supplies. There is no laundry on site (which was indicated in the accommodation information). Low Head lighthouse is around a 1km walk and very worth a look

The heritage boatman's cottage was beautifully appointed with modern kitchen and bathroom facilities, heating in all rooms and a very comfortable queen bed. Surrounded by the lawns of the historic pilot station and just a few steps from the cafe, museum and Pilots Bay, we enjoyed a very relaxing and cosy stay.

Quiet and very relaxing.
House very spacious.

Dirty carpet and floors, otherwise fine. Lovely outlook and quiet location

Magnificent view from the sunroom.
The house is now very dated and requires maintenance, the large number of stains on the carpeted areas is not a good look. Installing a dishwasher wouldn't go astray, asking the guests to wash up the crockery when you are charging $300 a night is a bit rich. Providing 1 and a half toilet rolls for 7 people is unacceptable and smacks of penny pinching.

A big surprise for my kids to stay as a lighthouse keeper. Amazing views for sure and finding penguins in the yard is a bonus. Room is clean and tidy and equipped with everything we need. We will stay absolutely stay again if we are lucky enough.

Unique location, windswept and handy for seeing the penguins but a bit remote to other attractions and amenities

Husband and I stayed there only one night and would have loved to have stayed for a few nights at least.
Area is very interesting and historical. Home we stayed in was well fitted and extremely comfortable and clean.
Key collection after hours was easy.
Museum was fascinating.
We intend returning for a longer visit.

Fun time @ our 1860 house with very high winds
Day and night we felt like we were reliving the days of old.

Loved the property, views were amazing , the only down was the TV didn't work consistently and there was no WIFI which had been indicated there would be.
3.0 / 5.0
It was windy when we stayed so every window and the back door rattled. It may only sleep 2, but only 2 of everything in the kitchen means constant washing up, but there was no brush or pan scrub to use! It may be heritage but it still needs some TLC.

A special experience in a beautiful and historic place.

Very picky about telling y if u don’t leave the towels in the bathroom in a pile, sheets pulled in the bed and to wah & dry all dirty dishes u will be charged a cleaning fee. I feel most are very considerate, but others can ruin it.

This was a unique stay in a heritage listed former pilots cottage. The peace and quiet and atmosphere was amazing, not to mention the quality of the fresh coastal air.

Pro: great ocean view at the sunroom! Haritage site is well maintained. All facilities are functional and convenient
Con: never thought the back yard is also open to public, so you can imagine when sitting in the sunroom, you will keep on seeing different groups of tourist come into the back yard to see the light house. With some attempting to enter the sunroom from the back being very weird. Next time probably we will pick the queens lander instead of the light house accommodations

Amazing to be able to stay in this heritage listed property.
The area is not close to amenities but there are adequate facilities in George Town.

The property is quite old, no electricity once we arrived and we don't feel comfortable there. Reception lady is friendly and helpful. Very close to penguin tours.

Low Head was the last stop on our Tasmania adventure and the Pilot Sation was the perfect last night. The School House was very comfortable, the building had personality and was well fitted out ( the beds and lounges etc). Even though the wind was howling outside, we were toasty warm inside. What a fabulous slice of Tassie history! Don’t miss the Museum either- an amazing array of maritime items and Low Head history. We really loved our stay.

Great location, beautiful views, very clean, good facilities, however the beds weren’t very comfortable.

Very cold & windy & the breeze did rattle a door a bit. Slightly sparse area with wall hangings that clashed with the heritage nature of the Pilot Station. Comfortable bed & all mod cons in kitchen. Thankfully the gas heater in the lounge room worked well as there was a power outage in the whole district that night. The place was special but the inclement frosty weather was a turn off. A beautiful area to visit with a very friendly IGA manager who gave us useful advice for our stay.

Very big home. 0.9km from penguin tour. Excellent location. Friendly staffs. Love to come back again!

Unfortunately our stay was ruined by the violent storm, which the windows and doors struggled to cope with.

Great location and views and old times charm and very handy for beach.
