The property has a lot potential however their do need to better some important items, the breakfast is very poor and their need to upgrade where flies won’t be all over the food ,also because the heat and flies the place needs fans , other then that when we went there was under construction so is normal not to be everything do way we expect but stuffs was very friendly and like I mention when the place is completed reformed is very unique . This is a good criticism ❤️

My Niece and I only stayed here 1 night, old saying, "you pays your money, you takes your choice, pictures make it look grand, maybe many years ago! as for staff speaking French/English etc etc, they must have all been off. Put in a wash to be done, had to ask 4 times when it would be ready, as we were checking out, came back WET, and found out later that Traveling towel was missing. If you want cheap local. this is for you.

Pousada Portas da Amazônia was a nice experience in the historical area of São Luís. It was great to stay here and see the historical part of the city. The food served was good and the pousada had a lot of historical details. There are a lot of options within walking distance to eat, shop, and other activities. We loved seeing the history from the city firsthand.

The property is fine, the breakfast is ok, the staff is friendly. The problem is that the pousada is on a street with no car access. The is not disclose when I make the reservation. The taxi left the guesses 2 blocks away, and this is a bad situation because we have to carry our baggage in the street. Next day we have a pickup for to go to Barreirinhas and again the problem, we have to drag our luggage 4 blocks away because no cars at the street. Never more i will stay or recommend this place.

I Loved the rustic rooms and the antique ambiance that I experienced at this beautiful hotel!!
Nestled in a sweet little town in São Luis, on a beautiful cobblestone road that took me back in time to a moment when life was more simple and peaceful!
I will definitely be staying here again when I return to Brazil!!!

Great location in the historical centre and it’s a very nice old building. However, there is a bar directly below, still in the hotel which is very loud and it goes all night. Really don’t know what they thought that was a good idea.

Great Location

The pics and location are amazing. The room looked great and the staff super helpful. However the noise downstairs is just crazy and the rooms don’t close properly to minimise the noise. Also the shower knob was conductive somehow.

I stayed with my husband and in laws before heading to Lençois.
The hotel is located within the historical town. The historical town is charming however very run down. So do not expect too much. Quite a few people on the streets however that is not too bad. If the hotel was nice and comfortable you could put up with the location.
The rooms are dirty and poorly maintained. We changed room once and my in laws changed three times. There was black tape on the shower tap so you do not electrocute yourself! Honestly it is a bit shocking.
The staff are in over their heads, trying to help but do not!
The lobby is dark and smells like cat urine.
The breakfast is poor. There were flies over the cut fruit, and the staff just waved their hands over it to move the flies on - DISGRACEFUL!
The most frustrating part is that the hotel building could be beautiful. It has so much potential but is run down and poorly managed.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Great culture, food, bars nearby. Live music many nights. This is not a quiet getaway, you are in the center of a lively entertainment district so don't complain about musicians making "noise."

Front rooms lovely, very quiet street, as no cars allowed.

The pousada is very well located in the historic core. The attached pizzeria was delicious. The pousada is on a pedestrian-only street which may be a consideration if you are arriving late at night. I heard that it becomes very loud on Friday and Saturday nights but the area felt a bit abandoned when we arrived Sunday night. The building is gorgeous, with insanely tall ceilings and a lovely courtyard. Breakfast was good. Room was clean and comfortable though we had a dripping tap. Our room was at the back of the pousada so it was very quiet.
