Comfortable hotel with friendly staff, breakfast was excellent and included in our room rate. Evening meal was ok with a reasonable choice. Parking and directions provided were good and really helpful

Everything about this hotel was excellent! Great location, comfortable rooms, lots of parking, lovely breakfast. The friendly and helpful staff deserve a special mention as they made a great stay even better. Great value and would definitely stay again.

Grat hotel!

This is a good hotel, well run with good food. The only thing they could improve on is the information on their restaurant. It is Egon Ronay recomended but only the table d'hôte menu (excellent but limited) and bar menu is available Monday to Thursday. A full a là carte menu is available at the weekend. I was told by different staff that the restaurant was closed Monday & Tuesday (untrue) fully open (untrue) and, correctly, open all week but the full a là carte menu only available at the weekend. The hotel is well positioned with its own car park.

We have stayed at the GreyFriars hotel 4 times now
Have never had such a great deal as the last occasion using Hotels.com
It was £200 cheaper than before same amount of nights and one of the best hotel rooms.
4.7
Very enjoyable stay and credit to all the staff. Great outside terrace to relax by the bar area and food was excellent - overall it was a great stay and look forward to returning soon

I stayed at Greyfriars when visiting from Canada for my cousin's wedding. My hotel room was beautiful and spacious. The breakfasts were amazing and the staff polite, friendly and accommodating. The location was convenient. Loved every minute! Would highly recommend.

We had a fantastic night- our room was fabulous, the staff were professional and efficient and the hotel was well located. It’s a beautiful building that has been tastefully renovated and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Our second stay here and was as good as the first. Wonderful friendly staff and immaculate bedroom and bathroom.
Enjoyed the breakfast very much
4.7
Lovely hotel... only thing i would change is continental breakfast should be buffet style to avoid food waste.
4.7
Walkable from the train station and centrally located.
Staff friendly and helpful.

A very pleasant stay in this peaceful hotel again. On this occasion I had a delicious evening meal in the bar overlooking the terrace. The standard & presentation of the food at breakfast was also excellent.

This hotel is very run down in all aspects. I would not recommend it. Room is not clean, phone hardly works dusty. Window curtains do not close. Did not have room service.
4.7
A lovely hotel with very friendly staff and a beautiful room with a lovely cooked breakfast
4.7
Beautiful old building. Walking distance to everything. Staff are so very lovely . So polite and friendly . Only best place to stay in Colchester.
4.7
Absolutely lovely. We were upgraded to a suite. The room was huge spotlessly clean and kept well.
Complimentary minibar was a nice surprise and it was great having both shower and bath.
Breakfast had an excellent choice and was generally good quality. The full English was ok but not the best but on second had excellent other choices.
Service throughout was excellent.

The aroma sticks remind me of a mortuary. They are too strong

We enjoyed our stay in this lovely hotel.

The hotel was very nice, staff were friendly. The only issue we had was the net curtains had dirty marks on them, bus we informed reception and it was cleaned. The room was nice but as thick as the curtains were the gap at each end caused daylight to shine through so was awoken around 6am

We had reasonably high hopes of Greyfriars and, unusually in today's Britain, they exceeded them all. Our arrival was difficult, co-inciding as it did with some cycling event that denied us car access to the hotel. This was soon emolliated by the excellent reception staff and the sheer quality of the room and guest experience.
The room was stunning. Clean, stylish and with a bathroom equipped with a double shower, large bath and top-quality fittings. Comfortable bed. Top quality accessories such as an espresso machine and drawer-mounted drinks set. Above all, the welcome includes a modestly provisioned mini-bar, which is gratis. You tend not to see that so much, these days.
Food. Given the overall guest experience it was predictably good and the service flawless. Combine this with the breakfast experience, then all I can suggest is that whoever is responsible for the restaurant, they are exceptionally good.
I cannot recall any downside. I would return to Greyfriars in a heartbeat. Well done to all the fantastic staff!

A beautiful hotel!
The decor is outstanding and the staff and service excellent too
A great room with a really comfortable bed, impeccable cleanliness with a fantastic shower - all very modern and classy with extra little touches like the little lights on each stair up to the bedroom
A wonderful breakfast included with the price, which was a great way to start my day at work locally

Stayed at GreyFriars for our Anniversary as it was conveniently located to the restaurant we were visiting.
We couldn’t fault the hotel or the service we received. Upon checking in the lovely lady in reception told us that we had been upgraded to a junior suite.
The room was beautifully furnished and elegant with plenty of space.
Little extras, such as Nespresso machine and complementary coffee pods as well as mini fridge with drinks was a pleasant addition.
The only slight improvement would be better lighting due to the windows being small for the size of the room. This would have made getting ready easier.
Breakfast was faultless and the service was excellent. The staff were friendly and polite which made our stay all the better. We will definitely be back.

It was an excellent start to our UK vacation, quiet room, nice, comfortable dining room/pub. As we were visiting a local resident, I can’t speak to transportation or shopping.
4.7
Room was supposed to have king size bed but came with double. Air conditioning did not work and as we were on the top floor it was far too hot to sleep.
4.7
Our first stay at this hotel, and we weren’t disappointed, friendly welcome by reception team, food and service is excellent on terrace bar and in restaurant, had a complimentary upgrade on our room with free minibar , exceptionally clean room and hotel.
4.7
