My son and I had a fantastic stay. Beautiful grounds. Solar powered with conveniences such as wifi. Our hosts were friendly, helpful, and available. Looking forward to returning.

The island is located North of the village of Hopkins. However there are plenty of signs to help you find it easily. The island was beautiful and the freedom to take a kayak out and explore was terrific. If you choose to have meals prepared, Uwahine is not only a wonderful hostess, but a great cook. It is an eco-friendly resort so keep that in mind. Limited electric and cold water bathing. There is a good wifi signal.

We have not even got to see it because the moment we wanted to check in they canceled on us with a stupid excuse that their electricity is down.

You are NOT going to be staying in a foreign owned, all inclusive resort. This is a rustic group of huts for the people who want to experience the more primitive side of things. There are going to be bugs, but the local mosquito coils provided are extremely effective (nothing like the nearly useless ones sold in the US and Canada). We very much enjoyed our stay, and every member of the staff was friendly and helpful. It's a short walk to the beach, and several stores and restaurants. If you're walking back at night, you may meet the local drug dealers who hang out past the end of the driveway - but we found them to be friendly and completely non-threatening.

I stayed at this place three nights. Should have left after the first night. I booked the cheapest room, which was a thatch roof hut. Big mistake. I saw a rat in my room the first night. Kept finding rat droppings on my bed throughout my stay. My bed did not have a mosquito net and I got eaten alive the first night. The next day I requested a mosquito net and was told I shouldn't need one, but they did provide one. That helped. Mosquito coils were provided. You light them and they produce a smoke toxic to mosquitoes and people. The mosquitoes were dropping dead onto my bed. The smoke burned my eyes and made it difficult to breathe. I kept finding ants, spiders and other bugs in my bed. Their dogs barked randomly throughout the night, sometimes right outside my hut, waking me repeatedly. The guest quarters are clustered together. Early on my last morning, the neighboring guests had a loud conversation in their cabin, waking me up way too early. I sat at their picnic table, and the whole thing tipped over backwards, dumping me onto the muddy ground. The loud water pump is near the guest quarters and would turn on during the night, waking me repeatedly. I rented a kayak to go fishing, as they promote themselves as a fishing resort. They had only Child size flotation vests. They have no fishing tackle whatsoever but did manage to come up with a string and one small hook. For bait I was provided a chicken foot. Needless to say, I did not catch any fish. Primitive at best.

First this is not a place of luxury but a place of 100% passion and love for the culture. The staff is super friendly and willing to help you with anything you may need from cooking you authentic meals to making reservations with the locals for your adventures. The staff is also very knowledgeable about history and herbal medicine.
