I stayed at this property for the first time in August 2024 and had a great experience. I’ll definitely be returning to it in the future.

Okay stay. Property was clean and organized. The beach was fantastic! The workers were attentive and quick. We had a swim out room which I always try to do. Swim out pool was very dirty. The room fridge was barely stocked. Im mostly disappointed in dinner options. Everything is by reservation except for the buffet. We stood in front of the itailian restraunt barely anyone eating and were told they were fully booked. The only thing that saved our trip was the beach was beautiful. We have stayed in punta cana many times and and the beach did not compare to this one, we recommend Dominicus/Bayahibe/La Romana.

For the type of room paying not having ocean view was disappointing

I enjoyed the cleanliness of the hotel; the staff was friendly and welcoming. I enjoyed the beach the most. The beach is the highlight of the entire Catalonia - La Romana - crystal clear water! The adults-only section is good, but once it's time for dinner/eating you will be merged with the family-friendly hotel. Personally, I didn't mind it at all though. The downside was the buffet breakfast, I would give the breakfast buffer a 6/10. The only time I'd rate the food 10/10 would be when we had dinner at Beloved.

Staff did not speak a lot of English and night life was poor. Food was good. Pools and beach great.

Amazing time was had on our honeymoon! Everything was perfect.

Our stay at La Romana started with a room that was not cleaned properly and smelled stale. It was also not the picture of the room I booked. They moved us the next day. The second room, the air conditioning wouldn't shut off. We had to have blankets to sleep under. The maintenance person showed up, he turned the thermostat down. Oh, like we didn't think of that! It didn't work. The meals were decent, but their take on Asian was a joke. Waiters are busy talking to each other, for the most part, not engaging. Being badgered to join their travel club got old fast. And then having to watch a 50/60 year old drunk couple have sex in the pool was the disgusting end to our trip. Seeking out management, their reply was 'they could not control other guests actions'. The 'manager' also lied to Expedia and told them she had spoken to the couple. We were outside the entire time, she didn't. We thought we were picking an adult location to enjoy serenity. That was NOT serene. And the hotels stance was pathetic. Apparently, our comfort didn't matter? Not being able to swim in a pool after watching THAT? And I've emailed Catalonia. Two canned replies later, I'm done. There are too many other beautiful resorts in the Dominican that will maybe actually care about your experience! Steer clear of this one.

My wife and I decided to spend few days in LaRomana. Catalonia was one of the choices our friends recommended to us.
We loved the room, dual showers, dual sink, even two safes. Room view was amazing as well.
Beach area and sea were exceptional. No a single seaweed, beautiful clear water, soft sand...
then time came for dinner, and everything started. this is not my first all-inclusive hotel, but Catalonia need to change serving game a bit. to get a cup of coffee you wait 15 minutes, and when it arrives, it is already cold.
If you decide to order tea, i think they send a jet to India to get a tea bag. Not too many fruit or vegetable choices at the buffet. To get local fruit, i had to beg waitress.
But sea and weather were amazing and we enjoyed it as much as we could.

Overall a good experience.
We had to wait well over an hour past check-in for our room to be ready.
Grounds were nice and rooms were clean.
Do not expect wash cloths. We had to ask for them daily.
Food was hit or miss. Breakfast buffet at Thalassa was ok / good depending on the day. Dinner at Thalassa was not for me... Siwichi, Tao-Cat and La Isla snack bar were really good. The best was the beach day BBQ they had on Wednesday.
Staff was friendly. Erizon and Mariolis at the pool bar were the best!

Second time at this resort staying at the Royal, last was May 2019. Overall the resort met our expectations except for the restaurants. The quality of the evening dining options has dropped significantly, where most dinners were hardly edible leaving us no option but to grab something at a buffet. We are not picky eaters but flavorless, poorly prepared meals just are not exceptable. This is a very nice resort but this may have been our last visit unfortunately.

I really enjoyed my time at Catalonia. From start to finish the staff was so attentive and sweet. We lover all the restaurants we went to dinner at and enjoyed the different desserts they had to offer. The beach was so clean and no sea weed! I will definitely be this resort to everyone.

Hotel service is first class. Staff were very attentive and always with a positive vibe. So mamy amazing food options. I Deffinitely recommend to make your reservations for restaurants uppon check in. The room i booked was the swim up bedroom right across the pool bar, perfect location. Bayahibe is the best beach i've seen in Dominican Republica.

I would have rated everything at 5, because most everything was excellent. However, the horrible experience at check-in and how rude and unhelpful the front desk staff was, ruined the first day of our trip. It really seemed like Hery and Luz were enjoying being nasty. The fact that Expedia messed up the reservation didn't help either, but they did not want to assist at all without a lot of extra prompting. It was a very stressful and upsetting start to what was supposed to be a wonderful, relaxing vacation.
The rest of the staff and service at the hotel, was all great, from room service to spa to all restaurant staff. Everyone was very nice and accommodating. They are all helping to make the rest of our trip amazing.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The staff was great and friendly. There's a variety of restaurants and activities. Facilities a little dated but well maintained. There was construction on new facilities behind our room during the day. Beach was nice except for vendors soliciting.....Other than that we recommend learning some Español, to include myself. No seed weed on the beach during our stay. Weather was nice also.

Poor experience!! Worst vacation ever!
The good:
• Weather
• Transportation
• Many restaurants with a variety of food
• Beach access
• Landscaping- lots of trees and foliage
• Reception area welcoming, clean, and modern
The bad:
• No cold water in the morning hours between 10am-12:00pm. Absolutely none for 4 days. Would not be available while showering, turning water from bathing temp to burning hot. Unable to flush toilets or brush teeth. Water is a basic necessity for hygiene and safety.
• Construction debris in our personal pool. Called front desk staff to have it cleaned 3x, but no response. Finally on 4th days was cleaned and then chemicals thrown in. Unable to use that pool for 5 days, half our rental time. Our pool also was growing algae.
• Only one restaurant had warm food- Siwichi. Other restaurants had food arrive that was not even warm, mayonnaise was not kept refrigerated on a shelf, and caused one of us to get food poisoning.
• Restaurant reservations would say there were no reservations available, but when showed to restaurants, most of the tables were empty.
• Only a couple of the front desk spoke English, causing frustrations with getting our concerns addressed in a timely manner, ordering food/drinks, getting clarifications. Had to use our cell phones’ Translate apps.
• Resort wanted us to sign a Hold Harmless agreement for the water concern.
• Entertainment was focused on Spanish speaking musicians and vocalists. Some of the shows were also repeated in

This resort is wonderful. Beautiful beach, fantastic staff everywhere. water is calm and seaweed free. We could walk out at least 200 feet. A la carte options are good although too many are shared with the family resort. Skip the lobster dinner. Will definitely return.

I liked the concept of the Resort there was a few great staff very helpful but unfortunately I will not be returning to this Resort. Rooms are in need of maintenance and to get better cleaning. Grounds were nice and clean very well taking care off but there was a strong smell of pee and poop around the family side area. Food and drinks were not good at all. Only the Peruvian a la Carte Restaurant was ok and the mamajuana shots were good. Beach was nice. Pool was freezing.
