Large clean room. Lockbox key to room, no reception. Peeling paint in bathroom. Bed comfortable but squeaky!

Left comprehensive feedback on form for housekeeper at property.

Great location

Brilliantly located, easy to access, clean, comfortable and with all the amenities we wanted. Only minor grumble was creaky floorboards so noise from the people walking about in the room above and doesn’t have a breakfast option but there are plenty of restaurants in the area.

It's a lovely well kept Victorian with beautiful interiors. I would have appreciated additional table tops or shelving for travel gear. I would definitely stay here again.

The good: good location, easy parking, nice big bedroom, cathedral view The not so good: small bathroom (St Alban - have stayed in other rooms here with bigger bathrooms), only one chair, everything feels a little bit tired and dated, one might be forgiven for expecting more for the premium prices being charged!

A lovely boutique hotel (basically renovated rooms in a historic mansion). Rooms were comfortable and modern. Had a mini fridge in each room (which is rare), and access to a shared kitchen area for cooking etc. which was handy. Could do with some facial tissues in the room. Other than that, the check in/out process was contact-free and fuss-free. Would stay again in future!

Loved the location! As a solo female staying there, I would have liked windows with better and working locking mechanisms (one was broken altogether and neither of them were very sturdy)
as well as better lighting around the property at night. Since it was summer, windows needed to be open for air circulation but need a way to lock them in open position thats better. Everything else was fine.

Beautiful Georgian house with lovely spacious rooms. Added bonus of use of the kitchen so I could cater for myself. The one drawback is that it is on a main road and as my room was at the front of the property it was very noisy

Beautiful location and I love the updates they’ve done to the house.

Car park was littered with bedding and where tree cut down , not cleaned away.

Really nice apartment set in a lovely building. The room was spacious and well equipped with a small fridge and tea and coffee making facilities in the room. There was a shared kitchen also which was well equipped. The bed however was possibly the luckiest bed I’ve ever slept on.

We had a good experience at this property the most difficult aspect was gaining entry. We would use this property again. It was warm pleasant and comfortable.

Paid £145 for a 1 night stay without breakfast, so expected this room to be a little bit special. Although a good size and comfy bed, there were so many details that would have made this better. Like the fridge was sitting on one bedside table so no room for much else on there. No shelf in room or bathroom (apart from small mantel piece) to put your toiletries/ makeup on, no long mirror to see what you looked like on a night out, lightbulbs missing and a couple kept flickering, safe not attached to wall and covered in dust, wardrobe tiny, battered and tired looking and dusty. Potential was there but finishing touches not. Also if you wanted normal TV channels out of luck as had to sign up for Britbox, which I didn't do as the last person's details were still up for me to see and didn't want mine left there for confidentiality reasons. Key box for room 6 key also hard to open even with code! No plugs near mirror to straighten hair (luckily mine had an extra long lead), iron was missing, door switches wrong side of entrance door, so had to find in dark, marks on carpet and walls even though it was stated that a £200 deposit was held to pay for stain cleaning and breakages!

Torrington Hall is a serviced apartment, not a guesthouse. My review may have been higher had I booked a serviced apartment. There is no lighting outside and the house is set in a courtyard off the street, so I had to use the light from my phone to put in the code to enter the property (at 7pm). Incredibly unsafe. There is no-one on site. You get your key from a keybox and look after yourself. My room had a rickety door and was right next to the communal kitchen (this is basically a house that has been converted into 6 "apartments". Bed was horrendous - it dips so low you sleep in a "v" shape. None of the furniture matched and a lot of it smelled (especially the closet, which I didn't feel happy putting clothes in). The bathroom was massive and there was at least hot water with decent pressure. The TV is small and so far away from the bed it's unwatchable (because the room is so big).

Good value with parking. Lovely shower and excellent location for Town Centre. But…bed not that comfortable (old, springy mattress) and a little too noisy with road noise.

Easy to find. Grounds looked a bit untidy. Inside all was clean and tidy. Few small niggles. (Knobs on the end of the bed loose. Nowhere to put your potions in the shower. Shower a bit fierce and shot over the top of the enclosure) but very spacious room and comfortable bed. Very close to Even if a bit of a steep hill.

I can’t comment on the stay because we didn’t have one! We visited St Albans to attend a friend’s wedding. Upon arrival at Torrington Hall, after a 5 hour journey we were informed that the booking we had made in March through Hotels.com, and had paid for, had not been made with the hotel. The member of staff at the hotel was very apologetic and clearly this was an issue with Hotels.com, and not Torrington Hall, as they knew nothing about our booking. The member of staff was aware there were no vacancies anywhere in St Albans that evening, because earlier that day she had been helping someone else whose booking had also not been made by Hotels.com. The only option she could suggest was a £320 a night room in Hemel Hempstead. With an hour to go, Torrington Hall allowed us to get changed in their toilet. We were left with no alternative but to attend the wedding, not drink (from the free bar!), leave early and drive through the night returning home at 3.50am. We had been looking forward to this weekend for months and Hotels.com ruined it. Someone has my money for the booking but it’s obviously not Torrington Hall! I’d like it back please, with compensation.

Well we didn't even get in! We were double-booked apparently. No answer from anyone at 5 pm and along with another couple we stood waiting for over 20 mins, rang the number on the door and left 3 messages. Then we returned at 9.15 pm to be told there was no room left so in the rain we had to get another room. Hotels.com had a 3 hour wait on the phone for help. And again this morning, no reply and a 2.5 hour wait. Don't book.

We went as a family of three and the welcome was lovely with lots of tips where to get dinner and breakfast. The room was quiet, had an en-suite and a view out on to the cathedral. The hotel is right in the centre of town and bars, Cafés and shops only a few steps away.

Room was super, very boutique style - room had been heated for arrival and lovely friendly lady providing welcome service and check in

Amazing nice room very clean and big, comfortable and warm. Poor reception and welcome, did not realise it was a shared bathroom that was very busy, road noise, all in all very overpriced.

We had a very good stay, and the hotel is in an excellent position to visit the town centre.

Great location. Spacious room. Gorgeous bathroom. The camp bed was a little bit small for our 10-yr-old daughter.

Staff were friendly and helpful, they made us feel very welcome. Our room was lovely, very comfortable and well looked after. The hotel is ideally placed for the cathedral and the centre. Breakfast isn’t available at the hotel but plenty of good restaurants are a short walk away.

Lack of a guest lounge or any food service degrades what would otherwise be an outstanding hotel.

Really great apart from the fact that there were no normal teabags in the room for the morning. This was the only fault with our stay though.

Perfect location. Close to everything but off main road. Beautiful character house which has been modified to high spec

This may well be the best stay I've had in a hotel in the UK, and I've had my fair share of them. It seems like a new or recently renovated house, with everything looking spotless clean and brand new. We had three rooms booked and all of them were super spacious and very nicely decorated. The bathrooms are also spectacular, although unfortunately, they are shared between rooms, which wasn't a problem for us though. The host was incredibly nice and very helpful.

Good central location, short walk into town where there are lots of nice shops and restaurants. Parking facilities. Quiet in hotel and very clean. No reception, you are just met at the door and shown your room. Given a key to front door and room and basically left to it. Tea and coffee facilities in room. We were given a fold down bed for our daughter, which was fine and comfortable. Good value, would stay again.

The room was gorgeous and clean

Good location if you want to get into St. Albans or onto the motorways. Room felt very new with a nice carpet and was comfortable enough.

We only stayed here 1 night and it was a last-minute decision, but we were stunned by how wonderful this place is!! The room was enormous, tastefully decorated with beautiful big windows. Only slight negative was that it was a bit chilly when we woke up and we couldn't find a thermostat in the room but a very minor inconvenience in what was otherwise a truly fantastic stay. Thank you.
