Walking the South Downs Way as a solo traveler there were limited options when I booked so about 40 minutes walk from the trail. Really need a car to make the most of the property. Expensive for a one person stopover, breakfast also not available unless pre-booked. Very clean and good facilities though - just not ideal for me.

Lovely views nice and quiet, great place for walking or exploring the South Downs.

Cosy cabin for a one night stay. Secluded, peaceful spot, lovely views, and very friendly hosts. Shower temperature control a little wayward but our compact room was spotless and thoughtfully prepared with everything we needed. Lovely breakfast.

One night stay, room was cosy, so suitable for 1 night. Stayed in Hikers Rest 2. Ensuite was large but shower head needs attention. Microwave in room and some paper plates and disposable cutlery. Bed comfortable and pillows were brilliant. Large car park to rear of property and lighting outside property with sensors so it came on after dark. I walked to the nearest pub (The Barley Mow) but it did not serve food on a Wednesday night, so had to drive to another pub to get food.

The owners are very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The room I had, though not spacious, was fine for one. I would be very happy to stay there again.

We had the most delightful 48h in the Hiker’s Rest 1 budget cottage during our weekend at Glyndebourne and Charleston Festivals. Val and David were very welcoming and helpful. There was a communal fridge to store our picnic bits, easy parking onsite, and fabulous water pressure (never a given, even at luxe hotels!). We’re already planning our next visit.

Absolutely stunning view sitting on the decking in the evening, very friendly owners and overall lovely place to stay. One issue that is perhaps a personal preference is that the fold out sofa bed mattress looked old and was quite thin so one of my children struggled a little.

Perfect for what we wanted being just a few minutes from Glyndebourne and for our spaniel. A delightful little hamlet.

The Hikers Rest is in a small cabin in a beautiful setting overlooking the owner’s lovely garden. Room is small but very nicely made up with all facilities you need.

David and Val were very accommodating and friendly. Nothing was oo much trouble for them. We had a lovely room - and breakfast is fantastic! A return is definitely on the cards.

Clean & functional room.
Would recommend booking breakfast (if wanted) before arrival. We missed out as we only let them know when we arrived at 19.30 and were told in the morning that it was only available at 8.30am, we needed to leave at 8am.

Pros: clean, comfortable sleep, Instant hot water, ample parking.
Cons: little space around bed (a single bed would have been better in this space)
No surface area for working,
No chair of any type
No food offering. ( I knew this before booking)
No shelving other than window sill for bathroom stuff!
No wifi, I don’t think
Towels should be next to wash basin not other side of toilet.
I didn’t see any information regarding nearby places for an evening meal.
A general warning, accessing the main road west or east is a challenging task
Perhaps my visit caught me on a bad day!!

Stayed at Hikers Rest 2. The Rose cottage is situated in a quiet road in the Alciston village. One can explore a number of villages, pubs and restaurants in the area. The rest was super clean and the bed very comfortable. For a small bungalow extension this was surprisingly very comfy. There is only a small electric radiator as a means of heating.

Booked a one night stay before going on a ferry from Newhaven to Dieppe. Wanted somewhere close to the port with secure parking for the motorbikes. Rose Cottage scored on both requests. All instructions for check in and out were emailed to us before our arrival. Val and Dave were both there to.meet us when we arrived. Very friendly and accommodating. Lovely clean, well presented individual hut called Hiker's Rest. Well equipped for every possible need. Have booked another night on our return journey from NewHaven ferry before travelling home.

Bathroom clean, no hand towels, but clean white bath towels. Hosts were friendly and helpful.

Fantastic . Really pleased with our weekend away as a family . Beautiful views and fantastic accommodation . The owners were lovely and have created something special . It was great to be away from Brighton to experience a quiet break but nearby to be near the sea.

Greeted by our hosts David and Val who were lovely. They couldn't have been more attentive. We stayed in their Hikers rest room which was well equipped, clean and comfy. Used as a base to visit relatives. Ideal spot and will return again.

Lovely time spent here. Very quiet and peaceful, close to nature. Few horses around and ponny. „Middle Farm” nearby offers huge choice of local fruit, veg, meat, cheese, jams, pastries, pressed juices and a LOT of ciders and perrys. We stayed only for two night over the weekend but definitely would like to come back again.Thank you again David and Val

The self contained chalet was perfect for us! A bedroom and a bathroom was all we needed it wasn’t too far away from local shops. The owners couldn’t have been more helpful and the breakfast was great value and delicious and served with a smile thank you for a lovely stay!
