Great party vibes. Easy to meet others. The natural setting was amazing.
The dorms had no privacy and there were no laundry facilities.

Nice staff. Accommodating with food allergies. Nice beaches nearby, it's quite a hike because of the heat. Events for guests, quite social. They have a very basic kitchen, so don't expect much but it's nice they provide it.
Showers are separated by wood slats with big gaps so you can see the person showering in the shower next to you. The dorm gets extremely hot at night even with all the fans going. The hammocks are nice but they should add more for the amount of people who stay there.

Our stay at Jaba Jan hostel was a wonderful experience. The staff was very helpful and welcoming, just as the other visitors. The food was great with vegetarian options. The private beach was only 10 min by foot and absolutely stunning, just as the mangrove reserve closeby. We were able to rent a kayak from the hostel to explore the river through the mangroves.

I will repeat! Good good vibes. Ideal place to be away from the crowd and the noise, but in a relaxed atmosphere to socialise, surrounded by nature, along the river and just a 20 minute walk from a lonely beach.
So that you imagine the calm atmosphere, I'll tell you that some people stay longer and do volunteer work in the kitchen or painting. There's even people who work online and stay here for months. I might do that in the future. You can feel you are part of a cosmopolitan group of friends.
It's amazing to watch monkeys from the breakfast table!
You aren't isolated, s motorbike can take you to the village anytime for 5.000 pesos.
Rooms are well protected with anti-mosquito nets on the open windows and on the beds. Comfortable mattress. Very clean. Strong wifi.
Free breakfast (08.00-10.00h). There is a daily dish for lunch or dinner, 13.00-15.00h, 19.00-21.00h with an option to choose: vegetarian (falafel, eggs), fish, chicken, beef that costs 20.000-30.000 pesos, if you book in advance that morning. They're flexible with timing. You can refill water bottles as many times as needed for 5.000 pesos daily.

Such a nice place to relax for a few days. It's a little bit more alternative, so you stay more in nature, have animals around and just give you more an authentic vibe with friendly, calm people. I felt directly really comfortable with everyone even though we just stayed for one night. We rented a Kanu there and drove through the mangroven forest, discovered monkeys and crabs, made Pizza all together and played karaoke, I joined the free yoga lesson in the morning and we also went for a swim on one of the private beaches there. Would have love to stay longer.

Delicious place surrounded by nature: river, beach, jungle paths. Beds are comfortable, healthy food and a lot of hammocks makes this hostel one of a kind.
The host Dean is a very welcoming and sweet person
I did not stay long enough

incredible good vibes - everybody staying a long time and everybody having great conversations with each others etc.
also wonderfully placed on the brink of a unique ecosystem with plenty of animals, birds, private beach and a river leading you to the sea.

The beaches that you can get to in 10/15 mins walk are insanely good. A secluded gem. You can walk for 30 minutes on a pristine beach without crossing anyone. It feels like things could change soon though because some structures were being built. The staff is very friendly and they offer good food for all meals. It is in the middle of nothing, so if you need a shop or want to eat out you have to take a taxi/mototaxi
The rooms and the toilets are pretty basic but not bad.

a bit far from everything

The staff is very friendly and welcoming. I love that there is the river right next to the hostel and that it is away from town. Also, whenever I needed something, someone was here to help me.
Some parts of the facility are a bit old and it seems like they are still figuring out their organization but it did not affect my comfort.

If you are looking for a place that feels like home search no more. As backpackers, this is our favourite place in Colombia and it is Palomino's hidden gem. It's the kind of place that makes you keep extending - we booked three nights and stayed for two weeks. During our stay in Jaba Jan, we found everything we were looking for. It is 3km to Palomino so the town is always accessible but at the same time you can stay away from the crowds. Not only the place is incredibly beautiful and it is located in a privileged spot, but our stay was absolutely amazing thanks to the people there. The owners, Dean and Jen, are two sweethearts. From day one, they always helped us on everything we needed and made sure that our stay was comfy and truly unique. The common spaces are always filled with a great vibe and people gather up for dinner/lunch in a very familiar way. Also, Dean and Jen prepared very sweet get togethers, like canelazo or sangria nights. The activities offered by the hostel are great. The kayak tour around the mangrove is very special and Dean explains the area in a very detailed way. The environment around the hostel is very nice and wild: the river, the mangrove and the almost private beach next to it are great spaces to chill and have a good time. About the facilities, the rooms are always very clean, they have a sports space that is quite big and equipped, the open showers are super beautiful and the kitchen and common areas have everything you need to for cooking, relaxing and enjoying yourself. The price is very fair for what you get and the food (bkf, lunch and dinner) is delicious. The staff are super friendly and helpful! Couldn't recommend this place more :)
Only regret that we didn't stay longer ;)

Im fully recommending this wonderful place!!everything was super amazing!! the stuff is very lovely, very welcoming people who makes you feel like home! you have the river next to the kitchen, what is pretty nice to jump in anytime.. you even can walk inside the river to the ocean!! in case, you don’t feel like walking 13min to the “private” paradise beach, where you are most of the time completely alone. amazing place doing your practices like yoga and meditation! a lot of nature and in 5min u are in palomino with a moto taxi for 5000. Also if you are vegan (like I am), there are always vegan options and the food is really good! me gusta mucho!! if you have the chance, come!

The location is amazing. They have a private beach that is really beautiful. The staff is really kind and the cooking space is adequate. The kayak activity is a must. We even got to see monkeys. Lovely place.
The cooking place could be much more organized, with a dish stirrer and an available lighter for the stove. The check in and check out process could be improved to be more clear and organized. The doors could have a brush below to avoid bugs to enter the rooms. The shower could be improved.

it had a very relaxed atmosphere, and the patrons and staff make everyone feel like a family. We mostly felt our possessions were safe, because of this atmosphere. the location is incredible, and there is a short walk to a very private-feeling beach. the staff were also very attentive to our needs. they also provide activities around the property, including yoga, various sports, and a circus show for the evening. they had a nice beach picnic package with a good sandwich and pasta to enjoy next to the beach. patrons are mostly permitted to live a lifestyle that other properties would not permit, which is of course good for some, but not for others.
For those who are not in the best of physical shape, the walk to the beach could be a little laborious. furthermore, the entrance to the property has a very rough road, where patrons using a vehicle to arrive will experience extreme bumpiness. the private room we stayed in had a small ant issue initially, but was resolved by the staff. the food prices were on the high side. the locks provided for the rooms were old and rusty and small, which caused a small amount of worry.

Jaba jan is a beautiful place to stay, disconnect and enjoy the outdoors, with kind helpful staff and not to far from the main town. It has beautiful river frontage for a cool dip on a hot day. The food is fresh and tasty. The kitchen was a good place to mingle. The beaches and river mouth are a short walk. The river dec was perfect for yoga in the mourning, the nature is all around including growler monkeys. Its got a magic feeling to the place and I will return in the future for sure. Thanks guys for making me feel at home.

The relaxed vibe of the place. The communal areas bringing everyone together. The hosts are extremely lovely, accommodating and responsive to your needs. We had a lot of fun together, especially during the spanish cooking class!
No complaints!

Jaba Jan was exactly what I was looking for in Palomino. Away from the town, it’s perfectly situated in nature which means that you get all the peace you need to read a book and explore the area.
A short walk away are some beaches which are pretty empty so it feels like you have them all to yourself. The actual hostel is really well equipped, with good Wi-Fi, a tasty included breakfast, hammocks and a shared kitchen.
But the thing that stood out for me the most here was the people running the place and the volunteers. In my 6 months backpacking, I have never had such professional but also easygoing and kind hosts. Dean took me out on the kayak on the river which was a unique and really cool experience and always made sure I had everything I needed. Yasmin took a genuine interest in the things I mentioned that were important to me and gave me some great recommendations in the area for volunteering opportunities, hostels and activities. Everyone was always approachable and friendly which makes the whole vibe of the place feel like a home and I never felt scared to ask questions or for advice. They also let me leave my backpack here when I went to explore Cabo De La Vela.
This is a new hostel so there are still lots of new things they are planning, like activities and extra chill out areas. I can’t wait to come back one day and see all of this in action!
There wasn’t anything that I disliked, but there are just a few things to mention to give a heads up to other travellers so they come prepared.
This is a little bit out of Palomino town, so if you have your big backpack be prepared to walk for around 35mins in the sun or get a moto taxi. I am unfit and this didn’t break me, so it should be fine for most people but just a heads up. Also when you are staying there, Dean is always offering lifts if he’s heading to town and on the road to the hostel a lot of friendly locals are always willing to offer you a lift too.
The nearest shops to the hostel are in Palomino so stock up on any food/snacks you need. They offer a menu del dia at the hostel and can order you stuff in or people can pick things up for you if they are heading into town, but if you get any late night chocolate cravings then make sure you are prepared.
Obviously as this is in the middle of nature there are mosquitos and bugs around, but I didn’t think it was that bad at all. It’s just something to be mindful of if you are particularly sensitive, but the rooms are kept clean so there were never any issues there.

Connected to nature despite being only 2-3 km from Palomino. This is a new couple-run hostel directly on the river where you can float or walk down stream. A private beach is 15 min walk away. Breakfast included and good value menu del día. The big kitchen is available for guests to cook lunch and dinner. They provide fresh water for a small fee. Very laid back - much more than the resorts nearby. Basic yoga and workout area available. Lots of areas to stretch out and relax.
I liked this but FYI - as of Oct ‘22, they are still setting things up and improving the property giving it a very creative vibe. They are open-minded and welcome guest contributions and ideas. Bring strong repellant if you come during the wet season.
