Spacious older property in pretty location
Lovely setting. Spacious accommodation and very well equipped. Very warm in the house which is a real plus for cold days due to the heating system. Interesting old property with a nice garden and with good proximity to Hawkshead and Ambleside .Some nice walks from the property. We would be very happy to rebook in the future.

Terrible, couldn’t wait to go home.
Everything, from the moment I got there, the smell of damp when I opened the door, the paint crumbling on the walls, the toilet seat in the bathroom hanging off, the mould on the walls downstairs and upstairs in the bedrooms but the most significant of all was the mould on the sheets in the main bedroom, where my daughter and son in law were sleeping , so they had to sleep downstairs in one of the other mould infested rooms Subsequently they left early, I book this weekend away for my 70th birthday which was ruined, both booking .com and Sykes cottages have a duty of care to guests and if I could give a lower score I would .

Great cottage for social families but take earplugs
I loved the old features of the property. The garden and flowers were lovely. Large social kitchen. Nice big bath.
The driveway into the property wasn’t easy. The left track had too much of a drop to drive a car out onto the road and the right track was ok but not easy to turn round on the narrow road. The bathroom needs updating. Noisy house due to wall panels and creaks

Great place to explore the Lake District.
Great location although a little tricky to find in the early winter darkness. Well resourced with everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

A very poor experience and spoilt our Halloween break away
It had good gardens and In summer I imagine it looks beautiful
The fact there was no outside lighting which in winter carrying bags inside from 4 pm onwards was dangerous and caused a few falls over the bottom of the path heading upto the house - spotlight on a sensor definitely would make a difference. There was no hot water or heating due to the oil being empty surely this should be checked and also wood provided for such an incident ?. The highchair was a health hazard the straps should be removed and soaked in bleach they were caked in food !!The walls in most bedrooms were mouldy and had been painted over but smelt very damp and there was a huge stain on one bedroom carpet and damaged windows making the bedrooms even colder . The stairs are definitely not suitable for anyone unsteady on their feet and the bathrooms resembled youth hostel /sheltered housing . It was advertised as Ambleside but it’s a good 12 minute drive away and In a very remote location so worth noting .land maybe pointing out in the write up . I think if this house had a renovation and the heating was working properly and lighting issues sorted it would make a huge difference - also the sofas need washable covers on them as they were very worn .
