Formerly, this building was a Studio for a well known High Country artist and has been remodeled to include a full bathroom with tile shower and well equipped kitchenette. Sleep in a luxurious queen bed in the bedroom with 100 mile views or sit on the nook by the window overlooking Blackberry Gorge toward Charlotte. In the evenings, take your time enjoying the 700 square foot deck complete with swinging egg chairs, charming gas fire pit or lounge in one of many Adirondack chairs.
The cabin features tongue and groove spruce ceilings and walls as well as a sleeper sofa in the living area.
Whether your exploring the seclusion of the property or taking a nap on the deck, you’re in for a treat.
Appalachian Ski Mountain is 5.5 miles, Tweetsie Railroad is only 6 miles away and ASU and Boone are 10 miles. Downtown Blowing Rock is just a 2.5 miles away.
You’ll have access to the entire tiny cabin, huge deck and twenty acres to explore. Our property is meant to be a place of refuge and retreat from the normal day to day hustle. While you’re here make sure that you spend time around the fire pit, swing in the hanging egg chairs and make your way through the trails throughout the property.
You’ll also have access to the two acre, spring fed private pond at the bottom of the mountain. It’s perfect for that late afternoon picnic or pond side lounge or leisurely fishing. Make your way up the stream to the top of the spring and find that the water comes right up out of the ground.
The main deck between the large cabin and the tiny cabin is a shared space. The larger cabin may or may not be in use during your stay.
We love hosting and are thrilled that you chose Kate’s Cabin to stay while you explore the High Country. We’re here to help in any way that we can to make your stay more enjoyable. We’ll be here to help through the messaging system or through text and phone.
This cabin sits on 20 acres off of a private gravel road immediately off of 321 in Blowing Rock. We don’t have many neighbors, but the ones that we do are very friendly and you’ll likely see them driving by as they come and go throughout the day. Kate’s cabin sits at the very top of the only road in and out of the community, so please be sure that you do not block the road in any way that might impede our neighbors from getting by.
Highway 321 will be cleared appropriately in winter months. As for the road off of 321 to this cabin, it is paved but in the event of inclement weather - 4WD or AWD is suggested in winter months.
While the road to the house does melt quickly, it can be tricky with snow.
If you’re headed further into the High Country, we’d encourage you to take a drive. We highly recommend taking the longer route on the Blue Ridge Parkway to get from where you are to where you’re going. If you’re looking for another scenic route, be sure to take Shull’s Mill road if you’re headed toward Banner Elk or Valle Crucis.
Please park in the dedicated parking spot for Kate’s Cabin, as indicated by a sign on the light post.
This property is a historical landmark in the Blowing Rock community and was once home to the Moses Cone apple orchard. The main house was originally the Orchard’s caretaker’s cottage and this cabin was formerly a studio for a well known High Country artist.
There is plenty to do in and around the property and we encourage you to stroll down the private road past the cabin and main house as well as the 4x4 road down the mountain, across the road from the main driveway (please do not attempt to drive down the mountain on the asphalt path unless your vehicle is equipped with four wheel drive (we’re not responsible for any stuck or damaged vehicles that may come from driving down to the pond)). It is VERY steep…perhaps a hike might be a better fit?

I rented this property for my soon to be son in-law and my daughter since they never been on a vacation by themselves, let me tell you I when I asked them about their stay they said we will be going back there in the future. The owner was polite and very communicative. The property was amazing and the view was phenomenal!!!

We stayed in the tiny house on the property and were amazed by the proximity of the house to everything we wanted to do in Blowing Rock and Boone! Unfortunately, it rained most of the weekend that we were there, so we only got to enjoy the gorgeous views the morning that we were heading out. We did get to sit in one of the egg chairs and drink coffee while watching the sunrise, which was absolutely beautiful. There was another group staying in the big house while we were there, so we would've shared the outdoor hang out space with the view had the weather been nice. The tiny house was adorable and very cutely decorated, and was stocked with everything we needed. For tall people like us, it might be worthwhile to know that the queen bed and the futon both have foot boards so it is hard to hang your feet off the end. We still slept pretty well though because the temperature was perfect, cool enough air for us with great blanket options!

such a good location plus view for a weekend stay

We enjoyed our stay at the tiny cabin! Brian and his wife were very kind and helpful. The cabin is the perfect size for a couple or with a young kid. It was newly renovated and everything was very clean and functional. Bed was comfortable and there was a big Roku tv which is perfect. Kitchen has everything you need as well. The only thing I would suggest is including an info sheet with how things work and maybe some recommendations for things to do in the area! It’s good to note that the bigger cabin where the deck is located is pretty close to the house (which I didn’t realize when booking) so I could see it being a little awkward if another bigger group is there using everything outside (mostly in summer). It would be a good idea for bigger families to book both cabins to stay! Although I saw some bigger cabins for cheaper, I think higher price can be justified since the location is perfect, minutes from downtown Blowing Rock, and view is amazing.
