I wasn't expecting a lot as I'd booked a single room and it was quite cheap. On arrival the check in process was very easy exactly as per the instructions sent out.
When I went into the room, Wow! I'd obviously been upgraded to a large room with king size bed rolltop bath and walk in shower. Pressure on the shower was also excellent. Room was spotlessly clean. With the ample free parking it was a perfect stay. When I'm back in the area this is the first place I'll be looking to stay

Room right next to the busy and noisy road, lots of ladybirds even after getting rid of a load. Other than that it was fine

Amazing stay at The Retreat…
Open space, beautiful garden and environment. If you re looking for a get away, there’s no better.. Warm, clean, and quiet… the staff are very helpful… great comms with Alice and Hannah….
Just what I needed

Lovely hotel, my room was spacious, comfortable and very clean. Strange not having a reception but all the access codes worked although I had to chase them as they weren’t emailed to me as advised. The lady I spoke to was very helpful and sorted quickly. My room was at the back overlooking the garden so was very quiet.

My room was at the front of the property & road noise was an issue. Room was tired, single glazing & had a few cobwebs. I walked a bit around the grounds but wirh no clear pathways, I was unsure if I was trespassing. Overall the building is in needif repair.

This was a one night stop over the room was clean, comfy and tidy. I would book again if coming to the New forest

Very well located, great restaurant, rooms left much to be desired. Very noisy from traffic and cleaning staff.

Very spacious rooms. Very quiet considering it was dog friendly. Room was upgraded to one with a bath at no extra touch which spoke volumes about the owners.
Great location and would definitley stay there again

Lovely stay. Comfortable room, very pretty building and grounds.
The bath taps...you have to push/lift up, Incase anyone has trouble with them.

Nice peaceful location with great access to to local places to visit. Good value for money if you don’t need to be in the middle of town, beats a Lenny Henry place hands down,

No reception in this "hotel". Room looked lovely, but bed was the worst I have ever slept in, so soft, really uncomfortable (room 4), I ended up sleeping on the floor. Windows didn't fully close, but were painted in that position, so road noise was very bad. Reading similar reviews (indeed one about the poor bed), their response is very generic, so guess they know of the problems, but don't care enough to fix them (eg get a proper hotel mattress, not a cheapy off the internet). i booked this as it looked like a nice restful place to stay (eincluding the name), but this spoilt the start of our weekend break as I was so tired the next couple of days.
I would suggest the owner needs to read these pieces of feedback on Hotels.com and actually do something about them. I will definitely not go back to stay, which is a shame as it is a good location and the restaurant next door was very nice.

Overnight stay in the New Forest, just 10 miles to Lymington.

The shower leaked all over the bathroom floor and I nearly slipped on the water . I reported it and was given more towels . Also the drain was blocked in the shower and smelt .

Beautiful property, room was well presented and very clean. Really liked the self check in and check out element, and any staff we did meet were super friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, will be back. Thank you!

Very noisy room with the traffic but a lovely room perhaps I am not used to the sound of cars and lorries just cows and sheep!!

Each room is uniquely decorated.

Really clean and convenient but some noise from the main road outside. Would recommend my single room for short stay for one person, at a price far lower than for a Premier Inn.

Location is good.
There is a bit of traffic noise.
Great walks on the property super for dogs.
Building is old, floors are uneven !
However I would stay there again.
I had to request a shower mat.
Bath was too big and no handles so I couldn't use it.

Bedrooms at the back are lovely and quiet. Bedrooms at the front will have traffic noise but not through the night. The rooms are well furnished and stylish, towels are lovely and thick and soft! Our room wasn’t serviced between our 2 days stay but we rang for towels which were delivered within 20 mins. Fantastic restaurant next door. Good value for money and would stay again.

We had a wonderful big room. It looked al little bit old but it had a nice atmosphere. We could make us some tea or coffee and had a wonderful view.
Nice bathroom also.
There was no reception but the restaurant took over this task.
Only the toilet was filthy when we arrived. It had several yellow drops under the toilet seat! :(

Property was supposed to email us 72 hours in advance with entry codes as is not a hotel but an unstaffed building requiring entry codes to front door and room but no advance email received. Had to write hours before arriving to obtain.

Advertised free wifi and we had possibly a total of 20 minutes. Would not return. No staff to be seen! None at all

Very kind and helpful staff, self check-in was easy. Very nice on site restaurant with a good choice of food served until 21.00. There was a nice walk around the edge of a field of sheep which was good to stretch legs after a long drive. Room was main roadside so a bit noisy but that didn't bother me. Room was nice but all the furniture was painted black which was a bit creepy. Would stay again but maybe not in that room.

Really lovely hotel. Beautiful gardens and backing on to fields where I went for a lovely run. Restaurant was nice. My room was really big and spacious with a gorgeous bed. Definitely be back!

Nice old converted country Manor House. Room was super! Huge and nicely decorated shower was excellent. What a little gem this was only 14 mins from airport as well. Nice.

Pleasant and functional
Close to a fairly noisy road especially if you want the windows open
Lovely location and grounds.
Great restaurant on site.

Lovely stay like always, my dogs are spoiled by the staff, nice area to stay close to the Beach and New forest.

Beautiful setting and I liked completely person free check-in so didn't have to worry about arriving very late. ( Did have to phone earlier for code because Expedia hadn't sent the email with the code). My economy single room had the A35
just outside - so quite noisy particularly since motorway closed for road works and lots of diverted traffic. To be fair, the details did say it was road facing I just didn’t realise quite how close the road would be.

Nice big room, great shower but noisy , cars going by on main road, hotel supplied earplugs but i can't wear them comfortably, also very hot so wndow needed to be open or a fan supplied

The property is in a good location for access to the New Forest and coast, with large grounds to walk a dog. The bathroom was large with good & clean facilities, inlcuding freestanding bath and really nice shower. The room itself was enormous with a Queen(?) size bed (which was comfy enough) a wardbrobe, desk, one chair and tressle table with a kettle etc on. So much wasted space - a small fridge would have been useful, patricularly for dog food, milk etc etc, and a settee/armchairs to fill the roughly 4 metre void between the end of the bed and the wall where the TV was - to watch the TV, the only option was to sit on the bed which miles away, meaning the volume had to be turned up (probably annoying the neighbours). One wooden chair is really not enough. Biggest issue was the thin wall between rooms, and doors to rooms right next to each other, meaning you could hear the neighbours going out late at night or early morning to walk their dog, leading to 3 broken nights sleep. The room could easily lose a foot of space to accomodate the thickening and soundproofing of the wall between rooms. No reception or staff on hand. Access to building & bedroom via a code on the door - main entrance code changed and notified by text (not a great reception in the area) but inorrect code given. Room code changed halfway through our stay so couldn't get in (apparently notified by email - not received until after we left AND don't check emails on holiday). Not a Retreat!

I had a lovely stay this weekend at The Retreat. I was expecting a single room as I was a solo traveller but was pleasantly surprised that it was in fact a double bed with a very large ensuite (both a shower and bath). The room was a pleasant temperature, with only slight noise from the road (I had the window open for fresh air but at night the traffic is limited anyway so not an issue). There were tea and coffee facilities and shampoo/shower gel available. The room is accessed via a key code sent a couple of hours ahead of arrival and there is an emergency contact number for staff if needed. I had breakfast at the restaurant next door and it was very reasonably priced and excellent quality. Staff in the restaurant were very friendly and accommodating, I would recommend eating on site if you stay here. Lovely short walk around the grounds finished a very pleasant stay. Next time I will book ahead and try a treatment or class 😊

Really lovely hotel for a long weekend. It is on a main road but we had a back facing room so couldn’t hear any traffic noise. You do need to drive or take a taxi to get to the closest town for dinner options - although the on site restaurant was very nice for breakfast.

We arrived at lunchtime, but no food was available at the cafe. Breakfast, which was booked via e mail, but not confirmed, was not available until 09.00 when it was advertised as 08.30. Since we had a funeral to attend at 10.00 this was no use to us.
The room was clean but the bathroom smelt of drains and the blind would not completely lower. Since the hotel is on the main road, this was tricky!
